    Excellent memory care, new facility

I found the staff consistently professional, kind, accommodating and genuinely caring - communicative with families and great with residents. The brand-new, spotless facility feels nothing like a nursing home: single studios with large bathrooms, no steps, courtyard, lots of amenities (dining, salon, PT, sensory room, activities, outings) and active, happy residents - excellent memory care. One caveat: I've heard reports of recent management changes that caused lapses in cleanliness and care, so I'd confirm current leadership before deciding.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive about the physical environment, staff compassion, amenities, and daily activities, but there are notable, repeated concerns about management stability and inconsistent care that warrant attention.

Facilities and physical environment: Reviewers consistently praise the facility itself. Multiple reviews highlight that the center was rebuilt after tornado damage and is effectively brand-new, well maintained, and clean. Specific physical features mentioned include spacious single-person studio rooms, large bathrooms, no steps (accessible design), color-coded halls and shadow boxes outside rooms to aid orientation, and pleasant common spaces such as a courtyard and great room. The wide variety of onsite amenities is a recurring positive theme: a physical therapy area, hair salon, ice cream parlor, dining room, sensory room, an old-timey kitchen, and multiple activities spaces. These details suggest a facility designed for memory-care needs with attention to accessibility, sensory engagement, and resident comfort.

Staff, culture, and leadership: A dominant and consistent theme is strong praise for the caregiving staff. Many reviews describe staff as extremely dedicated, compassionate, professional, communicative, hands-on, and pleasant. Reviewers and employee-writers alike mention diverse roles (caregivers, housekeepers, activities staff, food preparation, maintenance, reception, directors) and express pride in teamwork and in caring for residents. Several reviews singled out the director as supportive, assuring, educational, and a valuable resource. There is a clear pattern of staff forming meaningful relationships with residents and families and of an organizational culture that many employees describe as joyful and loving.

Care quality, activities, and dining: Most reviewers report prompt, attentive care, active programming, and good food. Residents are described as enjoying outings, engaging in fun and sensory activities, and benefiting from therapy and rehabilitation resources. The dining experience and food quality received multiple positive mentions, along with a generally clean and fresh-smelling environment. For families seeking strong dementia-specific care, many reviews explicitly recommend this facility as an excellent choice.

Management, consistency, and notable concerns: Despite the many positives, there are important negative reports that appear repeatedly and should not be overlooked. Several reviewers complain about management instability and leadership changes; in at least one account management changes correlated with a marked decline in care quality, including allegations of neglect, rooms not being cleaned, and persistent room odors. Some reviews go further to say the facility is no longer recommended because of these issues. There are also claims that employees have been treated poorly by management, implying possible morale or retention problems that could affect care continuity. A small number of reviewers noted that a particular resident was too agitated to remain, suggesting that although the facility is designed for memory care, it may not be the ideal fit for every person with severe agitation or behavioral needs. These concerns point to variability in experience that may be tied to timing (before versus after management changes) or individual resident fit.

Patterns and practical implications: The overall pattern is one of high-quality, well-resourced memory care delivered by committed staff in an attractive, newly rebuilt facility, tempered by reports of episodic or sustained management problems that have, according to some reviewers, negatively affected care. Because the reviews show both strong praise and pointed criticism, prospective families should consider both sets of information when evaluating the Lantern at Morning Pointe. Recommended next steps include asking about current management and staffing stability, visiting multiple times (including mealtimes and activity periods), observing cleanliness and resident engagement, inquiring about how the facility handles behavioral challenges and agitation, and requesting references from current families.

Conclusion and recommendation: Many reviewers strongly recommend this center for dementia care, praising staff, amenities, and environment. However, several serious concerns about management changes and alleged neglect were significant enough for some families to advise against the facility. The reviews suggest a high potential for excellent care under stable leadership and engaged staff but also a risk of inconsistent experiences when management or staffing issues arise. Families should perform due diligence, focus on current operations and leadership, and make a decision based on current observations and specific resident needs.

About The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer's Center of Excellence Chattanooga

The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer's Center of Excellence Chattanooga offers specialized memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of memory loss in a large, rebuilt 43,000 square foot community. The community focuses on safety and comfort, providing a structured, home-like environment filled with light and roomy spaces, especially after being rebuilt following the 2020 tornado. Residents find support through two memory care programs-the Lamplight Program for early to moderate stages and The Lantern Program for those in more advanced stages of memory loss. Both programs use routines and activities based on individual interests, life experiences, and personal strengths, and the staff relies on methods such as Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care™ and the Best Friends™ approach to treat every person with dignity and respect.

The building has special areas for memory care, including a secure courtyard with a shaded pergola, benches, paved walkways, and outdoor musical instruments made in partnership with PlayCore. Residents enjoy Memory Care Suites with comfortable beds, windows for natural light, cozy chairs, and private or semi-private options for spending time with loved ones. Inside, there's a memory care activity room with word puzzles, a TV, and art supplies, along with themed dining rooms furnished with round tables, gingham-patterned chairs, and friendly artwork. A bright, vintage-decorated kitchen styled like an old-fashioned ice cream parlor encourages social gatherings and treats, while hallways have nostalgic fake storefronts that give a comforting, small-town feel.

Professional staff, including around-the-clock nurses, offer personal care, medication management, diabetic and incontinence care, non-ambulatory care, escorting to meals, help with dressing, bathing, regular check-ins, and support with moving between rooms or to activities. Staff keeps residents engaged with arts and crafts, education programs, exercise options, games, social outings, and programs that give purpose to each day, like the Meaningful Day™ initiative. Residents have access to an on-site salon, a therapy room, a fitness center, housekeeping, laundry and dry cleaning services, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and maintenance. Safety features such as sprinkler systems, alarm monitoring, and handicap accessible spaces help prevent confusion and wandering.

Families receive education and support to better manage memory diseases alongside their loved ones, and the community is recognized for friendly staff, good meals with Farm-to-Table freshness, and activities that keep everyone active and social. Residents enjoy choices of sitting areas, furnished porches, gardens, private kitchens or kitchenettes, and guest parking. There are long-term care insurance options, special diets available, transportation services for appointments, and accommodations for pets by arrangement. The whole community aims to create a steady, secure place where everyone gets treated with kindness and respect, making it a regional choice for memory care through Morning Pointe's wider network. Enrollment requires residency confirmation and staff screenings to make sure everyone's needs are met.
