    Affordable, peaceful but problematic staff

I've lived here two years. It's affordable, clean, safe and peaceful with a lovely park, patio/garden, activities, a bus stop out front and tasty meals - maintenance and Ms. McGee (the apartment manager) and her assistant have been responsive and helpful. However, many staff are rude, communication is poor and I was even denied entry due to my age, so I will be contacting HUD. Good for budget-minded seniors who want quiet and convenient transit, but beware of staff problems.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed-to-positive, with a strong majority of comments highlighting comfort, affordability, safety, and a quiet, community-oriented atmosphere. Multiple reviewers praised the apartment units themselves and the building layout: residents appreciate the peace and quiet, convenient parking, well-placed elevators, and reliable climate control that keeps summers cool and winters warm. Practical conveniences also receive positive mention — secure mail handling with notifications, prompt phone responses, and a responsive maintenance team contribute to a sense that routine needs are met without fuss. The presence of a lovely park behind the facility, an outdoor patio and garden, a bus stop out front, and a nearby church all reinforce the location's accessibility and appeal.

Management and staff impressions are nuanced but generally favorable regarding certain individuals. Several reviewers single out the apartment manager Ms. McGee and her assistant as helpful and caring, and describe management as responsive. This personal, hands-on management style appears to be a strong positive driver of resident satisfaction for those who stayed two years or more and described their stay as worthwhile, relaxing, and problem-free. Dining and social programming are other strengths: commenters mention delicious meals, entertaining staff, activities and games, and an inclusive atmosphere that helps create a community feel. The facility is repeatedly described as clean, safe, affordable, and not fancy — a practical, modest option rather than a luxury one.

However, there are notable negative reports that temper the overall positivity. Several reviews accuse staff (notably beyond the named manager) of being rude or disrespectful, and one or more reviewers report zero communication from staff in certain situations. These criticisms suggest variability in staff performance — a pattern in which a well-regarded manager and assistant coexist with other employees whose behavior has caused friction. More serious are the allegations of age discrimination and at least one account of denied entry on the basis of age; one reviewer explicitly said they will be contacting HUD. Such claims raise potential legal and ethical concerns and represent a significant red flag for prospective residents and their families. Additionally, some residents find a few neighbors intrusive or overly nosy, which affects the otherwise quiet community feel for those individuals.

In summary, Whiteside's Faith Manor appears to offer a calm, affordable, and reasonably well-run living option with strong points in location, safety, cleanliness, social programming, and attentive management (particularly Ms. McGee). Prospective residents who prioritize affordability, peace, and basic, dependable services may find it a good fit. At the same time, the facility shows signs of inconsistent staff behavior and at least one serious complaint alleging age discrimination and poor communication; these issues warrant further inquiry. Visitors or families considering Faith Manor should ask direct questions about staff training, complaint resolution procedures, and any ongoing investigations or HUD involvement, and, if possible, speak to current residents about both the regular management team and other staff interactions to get a fuller picture.

    About Whiteside's Faith Manor

Whiteside's Faith Manor sits in the Martin Luther King neighborhood of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and has served seniors and disabled adults since 1979, so you'll find it has some deep roots and a history that goes back a ways. The community stands out as a large, affordable home for people aged 62 or older, and also for those with disabilities starting at age 18, and it offers 117 apartments with a mix of studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, all within a 63,472 square foot building, and you'll find these apartments have income-based rent through federal HUD and Section 8 housing to help with costs, which tends to give residents peace of mind about monthly bills. The apartments and common areas were designed to be spacious for seniors, with washer and dryer access in each apartment, and units are pet-friendly so you can keep your cat or dog with you if you've got one, and the buildings use energy-efficient materials meant to keep things quiet and safe.

Whiteside's Faith Manor has 24-hour security for safety and a staff that offers independence but is always nearby, plus the building is equipped with security systems. Residents can join social clubs, eat in a social dining setting, and take part in scheduled activities, which include educational, entertaining, and wellness programs, and there are clubs where neighbors can get to know each other better. The whole place tries to make retirement easy with services like light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, medication reminders, and personal care, and there's errand service and respite care as well. It's close to the main spots you might need in Chattanooga, which is handy for errands or visits, and everything is focused on letting people age in place without worrying about moving again soon. Government and self-pay options are both accepted, including SSI and SSDI. It's a model for independent living, assisted living, memory care, and nursing home options, though the details about specific programs, utilities, parking, and in-unit features aren't all listed. The Faith Manor Nutrition Site is linked to meal services there. Whiteside's Faith Manor is a quiet, private place where affordable, comfortable retirement living and a sense of community have been the focus for many years.
