    Compassionate staff; dad thriving here

I placed my dad here after a referral from A Place for Mom and I'm so grateful - he's genuinely thriving. The staff (Stephanie Hill stood out) are professional, compassionate, and treat residents like family; nursing and activities teams are responsive and attentive. He loves the daily, varied activities and delicious fresh meals, and the dignified memory-care routine and social engagement have noticeably improved his mood and health. The facility is clean, small, and feels like a safe home - shared rooms are a bit tight, but overall we are very pleased.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on compassionate, professional and attentive memory-care for residents. Reviewers consistently praise the caregiving team — from nurses to direct caregivers and kitchen staff — for delivering respectful, dignified, and individualized care. Multiple accounts describe staff treating residents like family, demonstrating patience, tenderness, and above-and-beyond service. The facility’s dementia-specific approach is frequently highlighted as appropriate and effective: reviewers observed reduced agitation, maintained dignity, and tailored activities that reflect residents’ former interests and occupations.

Staffing and care quality are central strengths described across reviews. Nursing and caregiving teams are characterized as responsive and communicative; family members report being informed promptly about issues or changes. Several reviews call out particular staff members and the activities director for exceptional work. There is a noted camaraderie among staff, and volunteers are described as enthusiastic contributors. While one reviewer mentioned an allegation of a 'horrible workplace,' the overwhelming pattern is one of happy, devoted employees who provide consistent, attentive support and foster a secure environment for residents.

The Lantern’s programming and activities receive frequent, specific praise. Reviews mention a daily variety of activities, four activity groups weekly, in-house programming, visiting singing and church groups, family nights, and individualized engagement (flowers, birds, singing, and hobbies). Families attribute measurable improvements in mood and health to the routine and social opportunities provided. One-on-one attention and small-group engagement are repeatedly cited as reducing loneliness and aggression and promoting social interaction among community peers.

Facilities and atmosphere are described as clean, safe, and homelike. The smaller facility size is viewed positively by many families, who say it creates a welcoming, intimate environment rather than an institutional feel. Several reviewers call the building 'immaculate' and praise the cleanliness of living spaces. Safety and attentiveness are emphasized, with families feeling their loved ones are well cared for and secure.

Dining and nutrition are another consistent strength. Multiple reviewers praise the meals as fresh-made, gourmet, and adaptable to resident preferences and needs. Kitchen staff receive specific commendation, and food quality is tied to overall satisfaction with daily life at the facility.

Management and operations are generally well-regarded: tours are described as informative and reassuring, staffing levels are noted as ample during visits, and communication from the team is praised. The facility’s location near families’ homes and referrals from trusted sources (for example, A Place for Mom) are additional factors cited in families’ decisions to place loved ones there.

Notable concerns are limited but should be considered by prospective families. A few reviews mention logistical issues: one detailed complaint about breakfast being served late (an example given was breakfast being served at 10:30 despite food being ready earlier), and another comment noted shared units being too small. The presence of part-time staff was mentioned in the context of staffing mix, which could imply variability in caregiver continuity for some residents. Finally, an isolated review claiming the workplace was 'horrible' suggests it would be prudent for families to ask about staff turnover and workplace culture during a tour to get a current picture.

In summary, the reviews portray The Lantern at Morning Pointe Collegedale as a high-quality, family-oriented memory care community with standout caregiving, robust and meaningful activities, excellent dining, and a clean, safe environment. The most consistent themes are compassion, individualized attention, and a strong activities program that supports residents’ well-being. Prospective families should prioritize asking about room/unit sizes, meal schedules, and staffing continuity (full-time vs. part-time coverage) during a visit to address the limited concerns raised in a small number of reviews.
