    Neglectful dishonest understaffed dangerous facility

I trusted them with my aunt and they let her die. The place is chronically understaffed, unprofessional, and dishonest - call lights ignored for an hour, bedsores and hygiene neglected, nurses disregarded hospital instructions, PT scheduled against doctors' orders, and staff lied or tried to cover things up. Administration was cold and opaque, denied visitation, changed policies without notice, and there are no cameras; staff even smoke on the grounds. I cannot recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across these review summaries is predominantly negative, though a small number of reviewers report positive experiences. The dominant themes are serious concerns about care quality, staff behavior and honesty, administrative transparency, and safety. Several reviewers describe experiences that they view as neglectful or abusive, while a minority describe the facility as small, home-like, and staffed by caring people.

Care quality is a primary and recurring complaint. Multiple reviewers reported inadequate clinical care such as untreated or poorly treated bedsores and poor personal hygiene of residents entrusted to the facility. There are reports that call lights went unanswered for long periods (reportedly up to an hour), and assertions that basic care was not offered. Reviewers also described situations where nurses appeared not to understand or follow hospital instructions, and one report indicates physical therapy was scheduled the day after admission despite a doctor’s explicit opposition, with an associated claim that clinicians feared a lung collapse. These descriptions point to both competence and workflow problems affecting resident safety and clinical outcomes.

Staff behavior and professionalism are frequently criticized. Several reviewers used strong terms such as hateful and unprofessional to describe nursing staff, and there are multiple accusations of staff lying or being dishonest with family members. Allegations include attempts to cover up incidents and shifting blame onto the resident’s age. In addition, specific behaviors such as staff smoking on facility grounds were noted, which contributes to concerns about professionalism and policy enforcement. At the same time, a subset of reviews praise the staff as great, suggesting that experiences may vary widely by unit, shift, or individual caregiver.

Operational and management issues emerge repeatedly. Reviewers report a lack of transparency around policies and decision-making, with claims that policies are "pulled from a hat" and applied without prior notice. Families described group meetings being called without notification and visitation being denied or met with trespass warnings. Administration is characterized by some as lacking compassion, and these communication and procedural failures exacerbate the distrust families express about clinical care. Understaffing is noted explicitly and likely compounds both clinical and communication problems.

Facility and safety concerns are also prominent. Beyond clinical care issues, reviewers mentioned poor bed quality and the absence of cameras on the premises; the latter was cited in the context of accountability concerns. The combination of alleged clinical neglect, staffing issues, and lack of monitoring led some reviewers to strongly recommend against the facility. Conversely, those who praised the facility highlighted its smaller, home-like atmosphere, indicating that the physical environment and scale may be strengths for some residents.

Patterns and notable contrasts: there is a clear pattern of serious allegations (neglect, dishonesty, attempted cover-up) from multiple reviewers, balanced by isolated positive comments about staff and the home's atmosphere. The severity of some claims—such as untreated bedsores, alleged preventable harm, and claims that a relative was effectively allowed to die with a subsequent cover-up—warrants caution. Because accounts vary, families should treat these reviews as signals to investigate further: ask about staffing levels, clinical oversight, wound care protocols, incident reporting procedures, visitation policies, and how the facility communicates with families. Requesting recent inspection reports or speaking to current families could help corroborate the mixed impressions found in these summaries.

In summary, the reviews portray Oakwood Community Living Center as a facility with potential positive aspects (a small, home-like setting and staff who some families found great) but dominated by serious concerns about clinical care, staff conduct, transparency, and management. The most frequent and impactful complaints involve alleged neglect (bedsores, hygiene), communication and honesty problems (staff lying, alleged cover-ups), and operational shortcomings (understaffing, sudden policy or meeting changes). These are significant red flags for prospective residents and families and justify in-depth, specific inquiries before selecting this facility.
