    Great frontline care, poor administration

I'm very happy with the hands-on nursing care - my mom is doing well, the CNAs and nurses go beyond their job descriptions, activities and cookouts are great, and the building is clean and family-friendly. That said, the office/administration is horrible: understaffed, billing problems and poor handling of paperwork (especially since the company change after bankruptcy), which has caused stress. In short: excellent frontline care and quality of life, but frustrating and unreliable administration.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The review summaries present a mixed but distinctively split picture. A substantial portion of reviewers praise the clinical and day-to-day resident care, reporting high satisfaction with nursing, skilled services, and the personal attention their loved ones receive. At the same time, a recurring and serious cluster of concerns centers on administrative, financial, and management issues — including a past bankruptcy, reported billing problems, and understaffing — which create notable friction and uncertainty for some families.

Care quality and staff: Many reviewers emphasize that caregiving staff are compassionate, often described as going beyond their formal job titles and treating families like family. Multiple accounts point to measurable improvements in residents’ health and quality of life, with comments that loved ones are doing well and receiving high-quality skilled care. CNAs and other clinical staff are frequently called out as “good people” who provide hands-on support. However, there are also reports that in some cases care lacked warmth or compassion, indicating inconsistency in bedside manner across staff or shifts.

Activities, environment, and dining: Positive comments highlight a clean facility environment with no noticeable odors, an active programming calendar (including cookouts and other events), and activities that contribute to residents’ quality of life. These elements appear to reinforce the positive experiences families have with daily life at the facility and support an overall family-friendly atmosphere.

Admissions experience and family satisfaction: Several reviewers specifically mention a reassuring admissions walk-through and express complete satisfaction with the care provided, even calling the facility the best nursing and skilled center. High overall satisfaction and statements that staff treat families well are prominent themes among the favorable reviews.

Management, administration, and financial concerns: A clear and recurring negative theme is administrative and financial instability. Reviewers reference a bankruptcy in 2017, a subsequent change in management or ownership, and the retention of the same facility name under new control—factors that have led to confusion and concern. Multiple summaries mention billing issues, disputes, and reports of owed or unpaid bills, which raises practical concerns for families and vendors alike. Separate from billing, several reviews criticize office staff for poor interactions and note that facility handling and leadership have been inadequate in some instances.

Staffing and operational capacity: Understaffing is another consistent concern. Reviewers report that CNAs are overwhelmed trying to keep up with patient loads, which can affect responsiveness and consistency of care. This operational pressure contrasts with the positive accounts of individual caregivers, suggesting that good staff efforts may be undermined by insufficient staffing levels or managerial shortcomings.

Overall synthesis and patterns: The dominant pattern is a split between strong clinical/relational strengths and troubling administrative/operational weaknesses. If you prioritize hands-on nursing skill, compassionate individual caregivers, a clean environment, and an active program of resident activities, many reviewers indicate very positive experiences. However, if administrative transparency, billing reliability, consistent staffing levels, and empathetic leadership are critical, the facility shows repeated negative signals that merit careful inquiry. The 2017 bankruptcy and subsequent ownership change—paired with reports of billing disputes and poor office interactions—are the most significant red flags in the feedback and should be explored further by prospective residents or families.

Recommendations for prospective families: Ask specific questions about current ownership and management, request written clarification on billing and vendor payment practices, and probe staffing ratios and how the facility handles staffing shortages. Also consider touring during different shifts to observe consistency of care and staff demeanor. Balancing the strong clinical praise against administrative concerns will help determine whether the facility’s strengths align with your priorities and tolerance for the reported operational risks.

About The Highlands Of Dyersburg Health & Rehab

The Highlands Of Dyersburg Health & Rehab stands as a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, offering around-the-clock supervision and help with medical needs, where staff help with bathing, dressing, and transfers, and provide medication management and support for non-ambulatory residents, and they've set up 12-16 hour nursing care based on what's needed, so there's always some form of care on hand, and a 24-hour call system means residents aren't alone if they need urgent help. People who come here find rooms with private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, phones, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, internet, and the rooms are furnished when folks move in, while housekeeping, laundry, and move-in help are part of what residents get, so they're not left to clean and organize everything by themselves.

The place has 180 certified beds, and as of June 2025, 51 beds are available, and they do take Medicare and Medicaid, which can make things less complicated when it comes to health insurance, and the focus is on providing high-quality care for different types of needs, whether someone is recovering after surgery, needs long-term help, or is dealing with memory problems, with services like physical, occupational, and speech therapy built into the schedule for those who need it. There are also assisted living services for people who are a bit more independent but still want extra support, and respite care is offered for short-term stays if caregivers need a break. You'll find special programs, including memory care and different therapies, and a focus on personalized attention for everyone's daily life.

People can take part in daily activities like movie nights, music programs, arts, games, reading in the library, or fitness in the exercise room, and both community-sponsored and resident-run activities help bring folks together, keeping them socially and mentally active with programs planned for every day, while outdoor spaces like walking paths and garden areas give a sense of space and fresh air. Dining covers restaurant-style service and all-day options, where chefs and meal planners prepare nutritious food, and special diets, including meals for diabetes and allergies, can be arranged. Transportation and parking are available, making it easier for residents and their families to come and go for outings or appointments.

Housekeeping and laundry take a load off daily chores, and emergency alert systems add an extra sense of safety, while a caring staff works to keep the environment both safe and comfortable. The facility has earned awards like Best of Senior Living and Most Friendly, which might speak to how the staff treats people and how the community feels. There's a partnership with Tennessee Health Management for operations support, and the focus on professional, attentive care means residents' needs tend to get met with care and patience. The Highlands Of Dyersburg Health & Rehab aims to create a nurturing, inclusive place for seniors, where independence and well-being are encouraged, and families often notice the home-like feeling and the attention to both health and happiness.
