    Caring staff but unsafe, dirty

In my experience the family-owned facility has caring, attentive staff, lots of activities and nice seasonal touches, but my stay was marred by serious problems: rooms were cramped, dirty and smelled of urine, an aide handled my mother roughly and she suffered a Colles fracture that required an ER visit and casting, and an unprofessional, aggressive driver cursed at me and even tried to hit my car-raising safety concerns and complicating EMS response. Because of the injury, poor cleanliness and unsafe behavior, I cannot recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but centers on two clear themes: many reviewers praise the staff, owner involvement, therapy outcomes, and social programming, while a smaller but serious set of reviews allege safety, cleanliness, and abuse concerns. Positive comments highlight friendly, attentive caregivers and therapists who reportedly achieve good outcomes — one therapist specifically said the resident "did great" — and multiple reviewers describe the owner as caring toward both residents and staff. The facility is described by several sources as engaging and home-like, with seasonal decorations, many activities such as bingo and special events, and ongoing remodeling or updates that suggest investment in the environment.

Care quality and staffing are portrayed positively in much of the feedback: reviewers repeatedly call the staff caring and attentive, and there are direct assertions of "utmost care" and "best care." Therapy services are noted as effective in at least one account. Family-owned management and an owner who is visible and concerned for residents and staff appears to be a consistent positive factor cited by multiple reviewers, which can indicate a strong culture of personal oversight.

However, a number of reviews raise serious and concrete concerns that contrast sharply with the positive accounts. The most severe allegations describe rough handling by staff that allegedly resulted in a Colles fracture requiring an ER visit and casting. That reviewer raised the possibility of abuse or neglect and indicated intent to take legal action. Another reviewer reported that an aide injured their mother’s wrist. Such allegations are significant and would warrant immediate, transparent investigation by management and oversight agencies.

Facility condition and cleanliness are inconsistent across reports. Some reviewers explicitly call the facility "extremely clean," while at least one detailed review described urine smell, a dirty and cramped room, and rooms "falling apart." This direct contradiction suggests either variability by unit/wing and time or differing expectations among reviewers. Remodeling and updates were noted, which could be part of addressing maintenance issues; however, the negative reports about sanitation and room condition are serious, particularly in a health care setting.

Safety and professionalism concerns extend beyond caregiving. One review recounts an aggressive, unprofessional driver who cursed at the family member, allegedly attempted to hit their car, and impeded EMS response — a report that raises red flags about transportation policies, staff hiring and training, and emergency procedures. There are also mentions of unprofessional appearance tied to company logo/display, which while minor compared to physical safety allegations, contributes to an impression of inconsistent professionalism.

In summary, the facility receives substantial praise for caring staff, effective therapy, active programming, and involved ownership, all of which are important positives. However, multiple reviews contain alarming claims of physical injury, possible abuse/neglect, poor room hygiene, and aggressive behavior by transportation staff. These negative reports are fewer but serious enough that they should not be dismissed. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong testimonials about staff and programming against the severity of the safety and cleanliness complaints, request detailed incident records and infection-control/maintenance policies, ask how the facility investigates allegations, and tour the specific unit where a resident would be placed to assess current conditions and staff professionalism directly.

About Mabry Health Care & Rehab Center

Mabry Health Care & Rehab Center sits in Gainesboro, Tennessee, right on North Grundy Quarles Highway, and folks around here know it's been family owned since 1979, with Ms. Kathleen Graves running things as a corporation for over 40 years. The community cares for seniors in a big building with over a hundred beds and skilled caregivers working around the clock, offering long-term care, rehabilitation services, and therapy equipment for people who need ongoing support. Many residents get nursing home care, while some live more independently in senior apartments, condos, or townhomes within the network, and active seniors can stay in independent living options that remove hassles but keep things social. For those needing extra help, there are assisted living services for daily activities and memory care units with housing and therapies designed to keep people with dementia safer, less confused, and more at ease, often in secure settings that help prevent wandering.

Residents have access to senior-focused technology, like special internet plans, cell phones, hearing aids, and helpful gadgets for daily living, while safety features such as walk-in tubs, medical alert systems, home security, and medication dispensers are there to back everyone up. There's even guidance on long-term care insurance and caregiver support, plus home care from trained aides who offer companionship and help with tasks that aren't medical. Mabry employs registered nurses, certified nursing assistants (with their own CNA training program), physicians, psychiatrists, and psychoanalysts to support a wide range of health needs, whether someone is recovering from illness or settling in for the long haul. People say the staff is kind, joyful, and helpful, and the atmosphere is friendly, with activities designed for socializing and mental stimulation, while mealtimes feature nutritious dishes meant to taste good and support health.

Mabry Health Care & Rehab Center keeps its doors open for visits most of the day, with visiting hours from early morning until evening, and has set business hours during the week and shorter hours on weekends, making it easier for families to come by. The building operates as a skilled nursing facility and extended care clinic, offering care that can include companion care and options for those with Alzheimer's or other memory issues, as well as regular nursing home services. There's no flashy marketing here; reviews and ratings have ranged from high to low, with some families sharing positive experiences, and others have offered critical feedback-so it's important to visit and see things yourself. With awards for resident satisfaction like Best of Senior Living and All-Star accolades, along with a strong presence on social media and a focus on hiring quality staff, Mabry continues to serve seniors in Gainesboro as a steady, established choice for people looking for help with aging, care, or health needs in a more supportive setting.
