    Attentive, affordable care in community

I placed my parent at Trousdale Senior Living Center and overall have a positive experience: the staff are kind, responsive and professional, care is good, activities are plentiful, meals are provided, visitation is flexible and the small, down-home atmosphere feels welcoming and close to home. The building is older and can feel dark, weekends have been occasionally short-staffed, and management/cleaning responsiveness has been uneven at times. Despite that, I'd recommend it for attentive, affordable care in a small community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is mixed but leans positive, with the most consistent praise focused on the direct-care staff and the personal attention residents receive. Multiple reviewers describe staff as caring, empathetic, professional, responsive, and accommodating. Several families explicitly state they would recommend Trousdale Senior Living Center and report that their loved ones are happy and well cared for. The facility's smaller size and "down-home" country atmosphere are appealing to many reviewers who value a quieter, more intimate setting and a good caregiver-to-resident ratio.

Care quality and staffing show a generally favorable pattern but with notable exceptions. Many reviewers emphasize quick responses to needs, excellent care for specific residents, and an overall feeling that staff are attentive. However, multiple reports of being short-staffed on weekends, inadequate cleaning and bathing for some residents, and a few accounts of declining quality indicate staffing and consistency issues at times. These contrasting accounts suggest that while day-to-day caregiving is often strong, there can be variability depending on shift, weekend coverage, or specific circumstances.

Facility condition and atmosphere are recurring areas of divergence. Several reviewers praise the clean, homey environment and the flexible layout, while others describe an old building with a dark or depressing nursing-home vibe. This split suggests that perceptions of the physical space vary by visitor expectation and perhaps which areas of the building they saw. The small size that appeals to some (more personal attention, quieter setting) is cited by others as limiting social interaction and opportunities for engagement.

Activities and amenities receive positive remarks: reviewers note many weekly activities, communal meals, a dining room with a TV, line dancing, and on-site services like hair styling. These programming elements contribute to a refreshing atmosphere for many residents. A recurring request is a transportation option or scheduled bus trips, indicating demand for more off-site outings or organized transport for residents and families.

Management and administrative performance show mixed reviews and appear to be a significant driver of family satisfaction variability. Several reviewers praise the senior manager and describe the facility as well-run and informative, while others criticize management for being lax, unresponsive, or disorganized (e.g., delayed mail delivery, bumpy first-month experiences). A few families reported initial administrative difficulties that improved over time, and at least one review mentioned a possible ownership change — a factor that can create uncertainty and affect consistency in operations.

Dining quality is another inconsistent theme: some families praise the food, while others describe it as "horrible." These conflicting reports suggest variability in meals or in individual expectations/tastes. Financially, reviewers often note reasonable pricing and proximity to home as positives, but some highlight practical drawbacks such as unfurnished rooms and a non-refundable deposit policy, which influenced their decision-making.

Safety and incident reporting are limited but important: one reviewer reported a resident fall leading to hospitalization and death. While other reviews describe good post-incident care and supportive staff, this account underscores the need for families to ask specific questions about fall prevention, incident response, and hospital transfer procedures during tours.

In summary, Trousdale Senior Living Center is frequently praised for its compassionate caregiving staff, personal atmosphere, and active programming. The most consistent strengths are staff responsiveness, small-community feel, and affordability. Main concerns center on facility age/atmosphere for some visitors, inconsistent management or administrative responsiveness, weekend staffing shortfalls, and mixed reports about cleanliness and food. Prospective families should weigh the high marks for direct care and community against reports of administrative inconsistency and physical plant limitations, and should tour the facility, ask about staffing patterns (especially weekends), meal plans, cleaning and bathing routines, transportation options, and any potential ownership changes before deciding.

    About Trousdale Senior Living Center

Trousdale Senior Living Center sits quietly in the hills of Hartsville, Tennessee, offering a peaceful place for people aged 55 and older who want to stay active but might need some help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, and managing medicines, and you know it's the first center of its kind in this small town, built on one level so there are no stairs or elevators to worry about, and you'll find 24 apartments, including studio, semi-private, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom options, all wired for cable and set up for comfort. Meals come three times a day with snacks, made from scratch in the kitchen, so residents don't need to fuss with cooking, and staff handle laundry and linens plus daily housekeeping, with private cleaning available if you want it, while a beauty salon and barbershop onsite make it easy to get a haircut without leaving the building. Folks gather in indoor common spaces or out on patios and gardens, and there are regular activities, which is easy when there's a full-time activity director who keeps things running with games, exercise classes, music, arts and crafts, story time, group outings, and even visits to offsite devotional services, alongside in-house services for those who like to worship close to home. The activity schedule encourages residents to move, make friends, and enjoy their hobbies, and there's a gardening group, musical programs, and recreation rooms for gathering or hosting family parties. The staff, including licensed caregivers always awake, offer standby transfers for folks needing help from bed to chair, monitor blood sugar for residents with diabetes, and support light and medium care needs but aren't set up for heavy care; they'll assist with activities of daily living but need residents to manage their own incontinence care and can't give insulin, though they do help track blood sugar levels. Hospice care is available, and adult day care runs at $10 per hour for those staying between 4 and 10 hours, and they provide short-term or respite care at $100 a day if families need a break or help in emergencies. There's transportation to appointments or outings, parking for guests and residents, and some pets are allowed, making it feel more like home, and you'll find everything on a single level for easy navigation, set in the rolling countryside that's even been called Gatlinburg-like by some. Pricing here's all-inclusive-activities, food, and rides are part of it-with payment through private pay, veterans' benefits, social security, private insurance, and a Waiver Program, and extra fees for a second resident, a one-time move-in charge, and variable rates based on care needs, all on a property built to feel cozy and safe like family, licensed to serve up to 36 residents since opening new in 2007, and all the details can be found at their website if you want to look further.
