    Clean, caring community with caveats

I toured this beautiful, very clean facility and was impressed by the excellent-sized rooms, attentive/professional staff (24-hour nurse), good meals, laundry and lots of activities (games, bingo, salon) - great value and a helpful 30-day trial. The community feels active and caring and residents seemed happy. My main concerns: a punitive nonrefundable $1,000 deposit with no itemized deductions or clear refund policy, limited outdoor/recreation space, few room photos, and no rooms available when I looked.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive with consistent praise for the quality of care, cleanliness, staff professionalism, and perceived value. Multiple reviewers describe the facility as very clean and without odor, and many highlight the building as beautiful and well-maintained. Staff are repeatedly called attentive, caring, professional and even "angels" — reviewers emphasize personal, compassionate care and specific appreciation for how staff treat residents (for example, excellent care for a parent). The presence of a 24-hour nurse and therapy services adds to the sense that clinical and daily care needs are reliably met.

Dining and daily living services receive frequent positive mention. Reviewers note good meals with variety and a pleasant dining area; several say they are happy with the food. Practical services such as laundry and an on-site salon are available and appreciated. Rooms are described as an excellent size, and shared rooms are reported to be kept in good condition. Common areas have ample seating, which supports socialization and comfort. The facility is also described as affordable and offering good value, with one reviewer explicitly calling it "nicest for the price," and another noting a 30-day trial option that may reduce move-in risk.

Activities and social life are generally a strength, with group activities, games, bingo, a game room, and therapy-led programming contributing to an active community atmosphere. Several reviewers say residents enjoy activities and therapy and that the community feels impressive and outstanding for engagement and vitality. The combination of recreational programming and therapy appears to support an active lifestyle for residents.

A consistent negative theme concerns outdoor and recreation spaces: reviewers report no outdoor activities and no dedicated outdoor/recreation areas. This limits opportunities for outdoor exercise, fresh air, or garden-based programming and may be a meaningful downside for families prioritizing outdoor access. Another significant, recurring concern centers on the facility's deposit policy related to power chairs: multiple reviewers describe a nonrefundable $1,000 deposit, characterize the policy as punitive, and highlight a lack of transparency regarding refunds. Specific complaints include no itemized damage deductions and a confusing or opaque refund process. This policy and its administration stand out as the single most serious management-related criticism across the reviews.

Other minor but notable points: some reviewers report limited availability or no rooms currently available, which affects prospective residents. Several people requested more photos of rooms and additional ratings or detail about staff and services online, indicating a need for improved marketing transparency and more informative listings. In sum, Cades Center Assisted Living receives high marks for cleanliness, staff quality, care services, dining, and value, while the main areas for improvement are outdoor/recreation offerings, clearer communications around deposit/refund policies, and more transparent listing information (photos and ratings). Addressing the deposit transparency and outdoor access would likely resolve the largest recurring complaints and further strengthen an otherwise well-regarded community.

    About Cades Center Assisted Living

Cades Center Assisted Living sits in a friendly, older part of town, close to stores, restaurants, and the shaded areas near the South Fork Forked Deer River, so folks living there are near the things they need and some nice views, which is always appreciated. Residents can pick from different types of rooms-there are studio apartments and single room units, some with private kitchenettes, cable TV, and colorful furnishings-making it a place for both privacy and social activity with a good bit of independence if that's what somebody wants. Cades Center provides different kinds of care, so whether someone needs simple help with daily tasks like bathing, meals, walking, or just wants company during the day, or if a person needs more involved support such as medication management, memory care, or skilled nursing assistance at any hour, there's a team of licensed and caring staff, including a registered nurse on-call 24/7, always keeping an eye on things. Folks can use amenities like Wi-Fi, a beauty salon, in-house barber services, and a meeting room for different gatherings, plus, communal and private dining rooms serve regular meals, even with special diets like low sodium or low sugar if a doctor asks for that, and you never have to worry about housework since there's cleaning and laundry provided too, along with options for dry cleaning. Cades Center encourages residents to keep busy and connected, so there's a full schedule of activities folks can join in on, from bingo and table tennis to devotional services, and with indoor recreation rooms and a garden patio, there's usually a calm spot to relax or talk with neighbors. Religious services-including visits from a chaplain and Protestant offerings-take place on site, and there's space for both quiet time and community gatherings. Residents get help with walking, using wheelchairs, and other tasks, while anyone who needs a little break-or whose family caregivers need to step away-can use the Adult Day Care or Respite Care services, making it easier for everyone involved. For those dealing with Alzheimer's or memory loss, the Memory Care team keeps a secure setting with attentive aid for meals, hygiene, and daily needs. Transportation for medical appointments and outings is available, though sometimes for an extra cost, and parking is there for those who still drive. The staff, always present and friendly, help residents feel at home and support both independence and safety, so people can focus on enjoying their days.
