    Caring responsive family-like senior community

My loved one lived here for years and I'm very grateful - the staff are caring, responsive and treated residents like family. The private, spacious apartments, huge covered front porch, lovely dining room, large activity room with daily programming, weekly on-site doctor and 24/7 security gave me real peace of mind. Clean, affordable, chef-prepared meals and attentive caregivers made visits pleasant - I highly recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Preston Place Suites is consistently described as a small, affordable assisted-living community with a strong emphasis on hands-on caregiving and activity programming. Reviewers emphasize that staff are welcoming and attentive, with frequent praise for nurses, caregivers, and an activities director who organizes a broad calendar (bingo, devotionals/Bible study, puzzles, outings, picnics, cornhole and holiday events). The community highlights one-on-one attention, assistance with bathing and other personal care tasks, routine housekeeping, and weekly access to an on-site physician, which supports both short-term and long-term residents seeking reliable clinical oversight.

Dining and food service elicit mixed feedback. Several reviewers describe very positive dining experiences — table service, meal customization, and chef-quality entrees — while others indicate that food quality and the overall dining experience can be inconsistent or in need of improvement. The facility offers a formal dining room, family-dining options, and table-side service; prospective residents should plan an in-person dining sample and questions about menu rotation and oversight during a tour.

Physical plant and amenities are a notable strength for the price point: private apartments with kitchenettes, spacious living areas, heat pumps, a large multipurpose activity room, an exercise room, an on-site beauty shop, apartment cleaning, and a sizable covered front porch that seats many residents. The building is described as clean and well-maintained, with visible attention to holiday décor and common-area presentation. Security features such as 24/7 cameras are in place. At the same time, several reviewers characterize portions of the environment as somewhat institutional rather than fully home-like, and the community offers fewer upscale amenities than higher-priced competitors — a tradeoff that aligns with the facility’s lower cost structure.

Management and operational patterns are generally characterized positively: reviewers highlight helpful tours, responsive management, caregivers who go beyond baseline duties, and an overall culture of respect and integrity. Affordability is repeatedly cited as a selling point, with some families calling it the best-priced option in the area while still delivering attentive care. The most consistent patterns to note are the strong staff engagement and activity programming combined with variability in dining and a community ambiance that may feel more institutional than residential.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: schedule an in-person tour that includes a meal, meet nursing and activities staff, inspect a typical apartment, and review staffing levels and medical coverage (including the on-site physician schedule). Also assess neighborhood access and safety given comments about location, and clarify which amenities are included versus those available at an additional cost. These steps will help align expectations about the facility’s strengths — caregiving, cleanliness, activities, and affordability — with its tradeoffs in ambiance and amenity level.

    About Preston Place Suites

Preston Place Suites sits a few miles from local hospitals, doctors, and rehab centers, so health care's always close by, and this senior community offers both independent and assisted living, so folks who want to stay active and do things on their own can have a maintenance-free life but still get help with daily needs if they want it, and the staff, with nurses on site around the clock, gives attentive care for everyone, from those who need a lot of assistance-like with diabetes care or moving in and out of bed-to people who're mostly independent but want peace of mind just in case. There are several types of rooms, from cozy studios to one-bedroom, semi-private, and two-bedroom suites, and each comes with things like kitchenettes, walk-in closets, and baths with bench seating, and there's even patio and window views to make things homey, plus Wi-Fi and cable at a lower rate. The whole place feels welcoming and home-like, with murals on the walls, vegetable gardens, and raised flower beds where residents who like to garden are welcome, and everyone can enjoy the sunrooms or visit the beauty shop when they're feeling social. A "General Store" helps take care of little shopping needs right on site, and there's always snacks out, colored dishes for folks with low vision, and an in-house chef cooking weekly menus that account for any special diets while still aiming to make meals tasty and comfortable; they offer meal choices, too, so residents can pick what suits them. Group activities happen every day, from gentle yoga and musical performances to arts and crafts, cooking classes, and outings around Kingsport, and there are social programs just for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, as well as caregiver support groups and even staff training sessions that make it a knowledgeable place for memory care when that's needed. The facility's staff knows how to help with things like transfers from beds to wheelchairs and handle emergencies, and they're available all day and night. The place has a "Little Things" philosophy, so personal care and small comforts matter, and the environment aims to bring a feeling of family, with staff working to make daily life simple but enjoyable. Residents can join fundraisers, like the Annual Ride for Memories Motorcycle Ride and golf tournaments, and the community often reaches out with adult day services and caregiver support. Payment options include private pay, social security, veteran's benefits, and commercial insurance. Fees depend on the level of care needed, whether that's respite or memory care, and cover both community and buy-in options. Altogether, Preston Place Suites focuses on comfort, good food, active days, and a sense of community, without feeling too formal, and tries to make every day a bit brighter for seniors looking for an easy, home-like setting.
