    Caring, affordable community with quirks

I toured this senior living community and felt at ease - the staff are genuinely caring, friendly and professional, the facility is clean and homey, meals are good, and there are lots of activities and worship services; they also accept Medicaid and seem affordable. It's an older building still being renovated with shared rooms/baths, no in-room phones, and occasional maintenance/cleaning or front-desk inconsistencies to note, but overall residents appeared happy and I would consider moving my family member here.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The bulk of the reviews for Knowles Home Assisted Living are strongly positive, emphasizing warm, caring personnel, a clean and welcoming environment, good meals, and a wide range of activities. Many reviewers describe the facility as homey and family-like, praising staff for compassion, responsiveness, and a willingness to keep families informed. Multiple comments note that the facility accepts Medicaid and is affordable, and that there is nursing staff available. However, a minority of reviews describe more serious problems (neglect, medication management issues, housekeeping lapses and pest sightings) that create a notable contrast with the otherwise favorable impressions.

Care quality and staff: The most consistent strength across the reviews is the staff. Words that appear frequently are caring, attentive, compassionate, and professional. Reviewers repeatedly highlight staff who “go over and beyond,” make residents feel like family, respond quickly to needs, and keep family members informed. Several specific positive interactions were noted (e.g., helpful tour guides, staff named Ms. Debra, appreciation for virtual evaluations), and reviewers often felt reassured by staff communication and follow-through. That said, there are a handful of strong negative comments accusing staff of ineptitude or neglect and isolated criticism of the Director of Nursing (DON). These negative reports are not the majority but are serious enough that they should be checked during a visit or by asking for references and clarifications on staffing, turnover, and incident reporting.

Facilities, cleanliness and maintenance: Many reviewers describe the building as clean, up-to-date, and well-kept; “spotless” and “very clean” appear frequently. The facility layout includes multiple communal spaces (two TV rooms, a cafeteria), and some residents have large rooms. Several reviewers note recent renovations or that the building is being renovated, while others call it an older facility—so expectations should reflect that parts may be newer while others are still being updated. Despite the many positive cleanliness reports, some reviewers call out specific housekeeping failures: dirty laundry, a nasty hallway restroom, and unsanitary cafeteria chairs. There are also a few reports of pests (nats and mice) in rooms. These mixed observations point to generally good housekeeping with occasional lapses; prospective families should verify current conditions and ask about pest control, laundry protocols, and renovation schedules.

Dining and activities: Dining is widely praised—lunches are described as delicious, there is mention of appealing specials (fried chicken on Thursdays), and staff will provide trays to rooms when needed. The cafeteria and cafeteria service draw positive comments, though a few reviewers complained about the physical condition of cafeteria chairs. Activities are another strong point: reviewers list bingo, cards, puzzles, devotional/worship services, and other programming that residents enjoy. Devotional times and social programming are specifically mentioned as meaningful to residents. Overall, dining and activity programming seem to be consistent strengths that contribute to residents’ satisfaction.

Safety, clinical services, and operational notes: Multiple reviews note a safe environment and the presence of nursing staff, which reassures families. Communication with families and a willingness to accommodate caregivers (including virtual evaluations) are described positively. Nevertheless, one of the more concerning themes in a minority of reviews is clinical: subpar medication management and occasional neglect are mentioned. In addition, operational/comfort concerns include no in-room phones for some rooms and the distance from certain rooms to the nurse’s station, which can matter for mobility or prompt response. Also mentioned were fines (details unclear) and variability in front-desk professionalism. Prospective families should ask specifics about medication administration protocols, staff training and ratios, incident/complaint records, emergency response procedures, and policies on charges or fines.

Patterns, contradictions and recommendations: The dominant pattern is overwhelmingly positive—clean facility, compassionate staff, good meals, and lively activities producing high resident/family satisfaction. However, the presence of multiple independent negative reports (medication errors, neglect, housekeeping failures, pests and inconsistent staff professionalism) creates a clear signal to verify certain areas before moving forward. These concerning items are not the majority but are serious where they occur, so treat them as red flags to follow up on.

If you are considering Knowles Home, recommended steps based on the reviews: 1) visit multiple times (including meal time and activity time) to get a sense of consistency; 2) ask directly about medication management, nursing coverage, training, and recent incidents; 3) inquire about pest control, laundry procedures, and any recent or planned renovations; 4) confirm privacy options (room and bathroom arrangements) and whether shared rooms are common; 5) ask about phone access, response times from staff, and how fines or additional charges are applied; and 6) request references from current families. Doing these checks will help validate the many positive reports while assessing the few serious concerns noted by other reviewers.

    About Knowles Home Assisted Living

Knowles Home Assisted Living sits in Nashville, Tennessee, run by the Metropolitan Hospital Authority, and the place has over 100 beds set up for seniors who need extra help but don't need full-time nursing care, and that's nice because you'll find a full-time medical director with years of experience in gerontology and nurse practitioners around for clinical care and ongoing health checks. Folks can get assisted living, memory care, independent living, and even nursing home programs depending on their situation, plus adult day care for those who just want services during the day, and it runs under the Wheal Model of Service, which means each person's care can be set up to match their personal needs with guidance from care teams, doctors, social workers, dieticians, the client, and their families. Rooms can be private or shared, all come with utilities except the phone and cable, and there's a 24-hour emergency response system in every one, so you've got the safety net right there if you need it. You'll see full-time and part-time licensed nurses, on-site medical consulting, nurse supervision, medication management, health education, and regular health evaluation, plus lab work and prescription delivery handled on-site.

The meals are something to talk about, with a chef preparing three balanced dishes every day and restaurant-style dining, and special diets can be worked out for those who need them-snacks included, all tasty and nutritious, so you don't have to worry if you have restrictions. Workers take care of housekeeping and linen service, and the buildings have lots of clean, bright activity and TV rooms, an inviting chapel with lots of sunlight, and five pleasant outdoor courtyards for those nice days when you just want to sit outside or walk around. Social, spiritual, educational, and recreational activities go on all week-and you'll see things like exercise classes, card games, an on-site movie theater, worship services, and outings scheduled by the staff. There's always a full, trained team on site.

You'll get Ageility physical therapy on-site if you need rehabilitation or help with movement, plus speech and occupational therapists and counseling services if that's needed, with care to help folks stay as independent as possible. Transportation is set up for medical trips, errands, outings, and community events, and if you'd like to visit hair or barber services, those are right here too. People can use the internet in common areas, and there's always someone to lend a hand but also make sure privacy and respect come first. So all in all, this is a state-licensed place designed for adults who need support with daily life or have chronic illness or disability, with social comforts and medical care right on hand, not fancy, but steady and earnest, the way people like it.
