Park Highlands Nursing & Rehabilitation Center sits at 711 Lucas Drive in Athens, Texas, and provides nursing and rehabilitation care in a private setting, but recently, the facility closed for investigation after a fire broke out on the roof, and so no publicly available information about current operations or admissions is offered. When open, the center has offered a range of skilled care services for both short-term and long-term residents, helping people recover from hospital stays or manage ongoing health conditions. The staff has included skilled nurses, therapists, and other care experts who provided personalized therapy, recovery support, and therapies for people needing stroke rehab, cardiac care, diabetes management, and other specialized needs. The center also has provided physical, occupational, and speech therapy to help residents regain independence, and worked with people through tailored care plans so each person could work towards their personal goals, with regular medical care and medication management available every day. Residents have had access to engaging activities, religious services for spiritual needs, nutritious meals prepared by culinary staff, laundry, housekeeping, beauty and barber services, along with transportation, podiatry, dentistry, optometry, and even hospice and psychiatric support. The nursing home has held a positive standing in the Athens area, accepted both Medicare and Medicaid, and has maintained proper accreditation. While the building is known for a home-like atmosphere and community events to help residents connect with family, meals, and activities, it's important to know that following the fire incident, the facility remains closed while investigations continue. For more information, the website www.savaseniorcare.com is available, but no other public updates are shared at this time.

Helpful therapy but unsafe care
I had a very mixed experience. The rehab team and several staff were kind, helpful, and got real mobility gains; the building was generally clean with good activities and meals at times. However I also saw medication mishandling (dosing errors), long nurse-call and phone wait times, ignored dietary needs, understaffing (weekends worse), patients left unattended in hallways, and lax security - all of which felt unsafe. Therapy helped but sometimes pushed too hard, and poor communication and unresponsiveness have me seriously considering transferring my loved one.
