Van Healthcare is a sixty-bed nursing home that offers both short-term rehabilitation stays and long-term living for seniors who need round-the-clock health care, and there are private and semi-private rooms, a spacious floor plan for moving around, and outdoor spaces meant for relaxing or spending time with others, and so you're likely to find comfort and a bit of a country home charm in the way it's set up since they've recently renovated the living areas to make them better. The staff's around all day and night-including skilled nurses, doctors, and nurse practitioners who come on site-and the care covers a lot, from basic nursing and medication management to specialized support like Alzheimer's care, mental health care, and even end-of-life hospice or palliative care, so seniors needing help with memory or serious illnesses can get the support they require. Residents often work with physical, occupational, and speech therapists, and the rehab programs help people recover after hospital stays or surgery, and there's both inpatient and outpatient therapy so folks can get what fits best, plus home health and telehealth counseling for those times when being in the facility isn't possible. For people who cannot stay long, there's respite care for stays that last five to thirty days, so caregivers can get a break or seniors can try the place out before committing, and the discharge planning tries to make moving home or elsewhere easier. The social activities here are steady-bingo, crafts, and intergenerational socials alongside holiday celebrations like Veteran's Day or Halloween crafts, and there's even therapy dog visits to brighten the mood, and free Wi-Fi for staying connected or using entertainment devices like iPads and Kindles. Van Healthcare helps seniors keep as much independence as possible, and the care gets tailored to each person's health and wishes, including things like drug and alcohol management, restorative programs, and mental health support, and with a team that includes nursing, social, and rehabilitation professionals, families tend to find some peace of mind. The focus stays on safety and dignity, while the environment's meant to feel welcoming and give seniors a good quality of life, whether they're here for a short stay or making it their new home.
Some kind staff, management lacking
I had a mixed, mostly negative experience. The CNAs and office manager were kind, knowledgeable and reassuring, but the administrator was condescending and many staff were rude or dismissive. Communication was poor (delayed COVID updates, visiting blocked), cleanliness and infection-control were inconsistent, and care was uneven (missed showers, missing belongings). There are nice activities, outdoor areas and some friendly staff, but poor management means I'm looking for other options.
