    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Blue Spruce Home–The Retired is strongly positive across caregiving, cleanliness, and the home-like atmosphere, but tempered by a mix of contradictory remarks about size, activities, and cost — and by the factual note that the facility closed in 2023.

Care quality is a standout theme. Multiple reviewers explicitly praise medical care, describing it as top-notch with effective medication management. Staff are credited with skillfully managing difficult behaviors such as sundowning and wandering, and reviewers report that medical needs were well managed even though the home employed a part-time nurse. Several accounts also emphasize a positive end-of-life experience, suggesting strong palliative or hospice-style support and compassionate attention at life’s final stages.

Staffing and management are repeatedly highlighted as strengths. The home is described as family-run, with attentive, dedicated, and loving caregivers who make residents feel truly at home. Reviewers used words like "spoiled" and "welcoming" to characterize staff behavior, and many credited the small, familial culture for close, personalized attention. Cleanliness is another consistent compliment — the facility is called sparkling clean and impressively well maintained.

Facilities and environment receive largely favorable comments, though there is some inconsistency in reports. Many reviews praise comfortable rooms and a pleasant outdoor space (yard, deck, outdoor seating, and flowers), and the setting is noted as pet-friendly. However, some reviewers mentioned small room sizes, while others said rooms were larger — indicating variation across units or differing expectations. The small community size is itself a double-edged point: it supports the family-like care and close attention but can also limit residents’ social options and activities.

Dining and activities show mixed feedback. A number of reviewers specifically praise home-cooked or homemade meals, reinforcing the homey, family-run image. Conversely, a subset of reviews called the food "average," suggesting variation in meal experience. Activity programming receives similar mixed marks: some reviewers describe engaging activities and events that keep residents involved, while others noted limited activities overall, likely related to the home's small size and staffing model.

Cost and operational notes are also mixed. Some reviewers felt the pricing was fair or affordable for the level of care and homelike environment; others cited the community as more expensive than comparable alternatives. The presence of a part-time nurse is mentioned matter-of-factly in positive reviews about medical care, but it is also a potential concern for prospective families who expect full-time nursing coverage.

Finally, the most important factual point is that reviewers indicate the facility closed in 2023. That closure supersedes current operational assessments and means the positive qualities described reflect past performance rather than a currently available option. In sum, Blue Spruce Home–The Retired was remembered for excellent, compassionate, family-run care, strong cleanliness and a homelike environment, effective handling of complex medical and behavioral needs, and a pet-friendly atmosphere — balanced against a small-scale setting with variable room sizes and activity/dining experiences, mixed impressions on cost, and limited on-site nursing hours. Given the closure, anyone researching similar care should consider these strengths and limitations when evaluating other small, family-run residential care homes.
