    Small clean facility, compassionate care

I placed my mom here and couldn't be happier - the small, very clean facility (right across from the hospital) felt safe and well run. The nurses and support staff were kind, respectful, and treated her like family; communication was quick and proactive, COVID practices were solid, and the food was good. I had no bad experiences - the care was consistently high-quality and compassionate.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans positive regarding frontline caregiving, with notable and recurrent concerns about management, safety, and financial trust. Many reviewers emphasize the quality and compassion of the staff: caregivers, nurses, and support personnel are repeatedly described as kind, respectful, and treating residents like family. Multiple comments highlight quick, proactive communication and regular updates to families, and several reviewers explicitly state high-quality care and strong appreciation for staff effort. The facility's small size, cleanliness, and proximity to a hospital are also frequently cited positives, as is the food. There are explicit references to historically "wonderful staff" and at least one testimonial that a family member "loved it," with some reviewers stating they experienced no bad issues while their relative was there.

Care quality and staff interaction are the most consistent strengths. Descriptors such as "compassionate," "caring," and "treated like family" recur across reviews, indicating that direct care interactions are perceived as warm and attentive. The presence of both nurses and support staff being praised suggests competence across caregiving roles. Proactive communication and quick updates are a distinct operational strength that families appreciated, which helps build confidence in day-to-day care and medical coordination. The facility's COVID safety practices were also noted positively, which may reflect attentiveness to infection control during the pandemic period referenced in the reviews.

Facilities and amenities are described in mostly favorable terms: the building is clean, small (which some families prefer for personalized attention), and conveniently located across from a hospital — a logistical advantage for medical appointments and emergencies. Dining receives favorable brief mentions ("liked food"), though there is limited detailed commentary on activities, programming, or recreational offerings in the provided summaries. The lack of negative notes about physical upkeep beyond cleanliness suggests the environment itself is acceptable to most reviewers.

However, there are significant and concerning negative themes that appear in multiple summaries and cannot be overlooked. Several reviewers allege staff favoritism and overworking of personnel; these issues can affect consistency of care and staff morale. More serious are claims related to financial misconduct — phrases like "money pocketing" and "fraud" — and statements about distrust and lying. While the summaries do not provide detailed evidence or specifics behind those allegations, their presence across reviews introduces a material trust issue for prospective residents and families. There is also at least one explicit safety concern: smoking near residents, which raises both immediate safety and regulatory questions.

Taken together, the pattern is one of strong, compassionate frontline caregiving and generally good facility conditions, contrasted with managerial and trust-related red flags. Positive experiences focus on individual caregivers and daily operations (communication, kindness, cleanliness, location), while negative experiences are centered on organizational behavior, oversight, and safety practices. For someone evaluating The Manor, Inc., these reviews suggest that the direct care culture is a primary strength but that due diligence regarding management practices, financial transparency, staff workload, and enforcement of safety protocols (for example, smoking policies) would be prudent. The presence of serious allegations (fraud, money pocketing) in reviewer summaries should prompt prospective residents and families to request documentation, licensure records, and clear answers from management before making a placement decision.

    About The Manor, Inc.

The Manor, Inc. sits on Washington Highway in Morrisville, Vermont, and has offered care to seniors for many years, always working to support their residents' well-being through various stages of aging, and you'll notice when you pull up that it's the type of place that stays steady in its purpose and, for a nursing home, keeps itself focused on care and comfort above the frills, prioritizing essential health needs more than shiny extras. It's a nonprofit with 72 certified beds and around 61 residents on an average day, though some beds may be empty, and nurse turnover's a bit high, about 52 percent, which happens, but the staff who stay put in a lot of round-the-clock hours-about 3.9 nursing hours per resident per day. There's skilled nursing provided, and they've got services for long-term care, short-term rehab, respite stays, memory care, and even end-of-life care, and some people receive home health care from them, which means the facility doesn't only exist for those living inside its walls, since it also reaches out to help homebound seniors and families with caregiving needs. Management is listed directly with Lynnette Smith as the owner, and details about who actively manages the place aren't easy to find, which means sometimes folks may need to ask about daily leadership if that's a concern.

Deficiencies are real, too: the facility has 17 federal deficiencies noted, with a couple specifically linked to infection control, which shows that inspections found they didn't meet all the protections needed to stop infections spreading, and reports have flagged pharmacy issues, like not always using gradual dose reductions with psychotropic medicines or sometimes not getting a licensed pharmacist involved as required, and there was one about not always following resident care orders or wishes as closely as they should have. While this might sound concerning, it's not a rare find in nursing homes, and each item means the staff and leadership have been asked to correct these areas. The Manor, Inc. does participate in Medicaid, as its official listings for Vermont show, and it gives long-term care insurance guidance, plus help for families working as caregivers. The average review rating is high-5.0 from just two people, so it's hard to say if that shows the full picture, but the facility does keep up a decent reputation over the decades and has gotten awards for senior care, though like anywhere, you'll find mixed opinions if you ask around.

Daily life tries to focus on comfort, with common areas for socializing, some outdoor spaces for nature, and care plans meant to match personal goals or therapy needs. There's emotional support and physical therapy, and the place says it works on life enrichment and tries to keep things home-like and nurturing rather than institutional, but most claims about features and amenities are general, since not much detail is available about exactly what activities or setups you'll find, and there aren't unique room names or special branding to speak of. The Manor, Inc. targets a healthy environment and tries to maintain a sense of community, with staff said to be professional and services meant to adjust as residents' health changes, so it works for people needing either short-term help or staying for the long run.
