    Resident loves caring, secure community

I've lived here since last March and love it - great, tasty food, friendly and helpful staff, and lots of activities in a home-like setting. Residents are happy, memory/advanced care is nearby for peace of mind, and privacy and safety are respected so I feel secure. Communication is good (notifications given), the director's long tenure shows, and when my eye meds got off track it was fixed promptly. Only downsides: a few maintenance items are waiting to be addressed. Minor suggestion: make lunch the heavier meal and keep dinner lighter. Overall I'm very pleased and highly recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is strongly positive. Multiple reviewers repeatedly praise the dining, staff, activities, and general atmosphere; phrases such as "great food choices," "delicious offerings," "friendly staff," "lots of activities," and "home-like environment" appear throughout and indicate consistent resident satisfaction. Several reviewers explicitly state they are happy to live at Harbor Village, with comments like "love it here," "glad I came here," and "highly recommend," which point to a generally favorable experience across newcomers and longer-term residents alike.

Dining is one of the most frequently mentioned strengths. Reviewers describe the food as both varied and tasty, and dining appears to be a notable driver of resident satisfaction. At least one comment offered a practical suggestion about meal timing and portions (preferring a heavier lunch and lighter dinner), which suggests that while the quality and variety are appreciated, there is interest in small service adjustments to better align with resident preferences.

Staff and care quality are also strong themes. Reviewers consistently call staff friendly and helpful; multiple summaries emphasize good, attentive care and positive interactions with employees. There is evidence of responsiveness when problems occur — for example, an off-track eye medication issue was identified, corrected, and notification was properly given — which suggests operational accountability. Memory care is singled out as having shown improvement, and the presence of a nearby advanced care building is noted as a benefit for access to higher-level services when needed.

Activities and social life receive positive attention: reviewers mention lots of activities and entertainment, contributing to a lively, engaging environment. The facility's atmosphere is described as home-like, and that sense of comfort appears to contribute to overall resident well-being and satisfaction.

Facilities and management present a mixed but generally positive picture. The director's long tenure (22 years) is highlighted and likely contributes to perceived stability and continuity in leadership. At the same time, maintenance issues awaiting repair are an identifiable downside mentioned by multiple reviewers; this indicates some operational or facilities maintenance follow-through could be improved. There is one reference that could be read as a privacy/safety concern, but it is framed such that the issue was not ongoing (and other comments emphasize privacy being respected), so this appears to be isolated rather than systemic.

In summary, Harbor Village receives high marks for dining, staff demeanor and responsiveness, active programming, and an overall comfortable, home-like environment. The facility's link to an advanced care building and apparent improvements in memory care are additional positives. The main actionable concerns are relatively narrow: timely completion of maintenance/repairs, careful attention to medication administration to avoid isolated errors, and consideration of resident preferences around meal timing/portioning. Given the preponderance of positive comments and explicit recommendations, the reviews paint Harbor Village as a well-regarded senior living option with a few targeted operational areas that, if addressed, could further strengthen resident satisfaction.

    About Harbor Village

Harbor Village at 16 Harbor View Road in South Burlington, Vermont is a senior living community made up of mid-rise apartment buildings where people can rent one- or two-bedroom suites on a month-to-month basis, and the place welcomes cats so residents can bring their feline friends along for company, and you can furnish the rooms with your own things to make it feel more like home, which many folks appreciate. There are both indoor and outdoor common areas where you'll often find residents sitting and talking, playing games, or just enjoying the fresh air on the grounds, since there's outdoor seating and walking areas for those who want to be outside in nice weather, plus fitness and recreation amenities like a game room and even movie nights for people who like to stay active or social. Harbor Village has a strong focus on accessibility, with wheelchair-friendly showers and suites meant to be easy for people with different mobility needs, plus there's hospice care when the time comes and a staff of nurses and aides on hand 24 hours a day for personal help, right there in the community so folks can feel safe and supported even as their needs change, and they offer both assisted living and memory care if that's needed too, which many families find comforting. There are transportation services for off-site activities and appointments along with resident parking, so getting around is a little easier, and meals are included in the rent, so there's less to worry about in terms of cooking, and for those who want to keep up with faith traditions there's devotional services right onsite as well. Harbor Village provides a range of health services, including skilled nursing and options for short-term stays, and for those who like company and something to do, you'll find plenty of activities, like arts and crafts, social events, and exercise classes that help people stay engaged and social, plus there's beautician services available in-house. For couples with different levels of care needs, the staff can make special arrangements, and there's a general understanding that folks should live as independently as they're able, with help always available if it's needed. The facility is a Level III Residential Care Facility licensed by the Vermont Department of Aging and Independent Living and honors LGBTQ legal protections for housing and employment, and while there's no information here about utilities or exact outdoor amenities, it's close to healthcare like the UMV Health Network, which gives some peace of mind in an emergency.
