    Caring staff, affordable, lively community

I've lived at Evergreen Court for two years and I'm generally satisfied. The staff and director are phenomenal - warm, patient, and caring - and medical care, medications, bathing help and safety are reliable. My one-bedroom is spacious, bright and clean; the older building is nicely updated, with a lovely courtyard and an accessible, convenient downtown Bellevue location close to doctors and family. There's a lively social scene with many activities, outings and friendships. Meals are provided three times daily and convenient, though quality/variety and dining hours can be limited. Management runs a well-kept, affordable community, but be aware of occasional billing/accounting responsiveness and some turnover. Overall I recommend Evergreen Court for its caring staff, value and sense of community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is positive, with consistent praise for the people, social environment and basic services. Reviewers repeatedly highlight that staff are caring, courteous, patient and available; multiple comments call staff "phenomenal" and praise specific staff members (including the director and a staff member named Melissa) for being helpful and hands-on. Residents and visitors note warm interpersonal relationships, with many reports of strong friendships, holiday parties, church services and a generally social, engaged resident community. The community size (around 60 apartments) and locally owned character are mentioned as contributing to an intimate, friendly atmosphere rather than a large, corporate setting.

Care quality and staffing are frequent strengths in the reviews. Assisted-living level care is described as attentive: medications are given on schedule, bathing assistance is praised, emergency medical staff are on-site, and neighbors are alert to issues. Reviewers report that staff interactions looked good during visits, that residents seemed well cared for, and that staffing is pragmatic and effective. There are notes that some staffing or management turnover and low manager pay have been concerns raised by reviewers, and a few comments suggest ownership can appear profit-focused; however, the day-to-day caregiving staff receive consistently strong positive remarks.

The physical facilities and apartments get mixed-but-favorable feedback. Many reviewers remark on large, bright rooms and public spaces — a large dining room, library, dedicated activities room, salon, and lots of indoor and outdoor room. The grounds, courtyard garden and lawns receive enthusiastic mentions; natural light and cheerful upkeep are common notes. At the same time reviewers acknowledge the building is older and not a luxury community; it has been "fixed up nicely" in places but some maintenance issues remain (for example a broken door lock reported by one reviewer). Practical amenities include on-site laundry with several machines, light housekeeping and linen service, and on-site medical response for emergencies. The layout is described as flat and accessible, which supports residents with mobility concerns.

Dining and activities are major positive themes with some caveats. Most reviewers appreciate that three meals are provided daily, describing meals as balanced and tasty in many accounts, with dining staff characterized as kind and courteous. Nevertheless, food quality is called out as a weakness by some reviewers, and there are repeated comments that dining hours are limited and not available outside the posted times. The activities program receives praise for being full and varied — bingo, concerts, field trips, holiday parties, church services, gardening and resident-run initiatives (resident store, crafts, music) — and reviewers note good transportation for outings and appointments. Some activities were curtailed during COVID-19, which affected earlier impressions, but many reviewers report activities have resumed and residents are engaged.

Management, operations and affordability show mixed patterns that prospective residents should weigh carefully. Many reviewers view Evergreen Court as affordable and reasonably priced — several called it less expensive than other nearby communities, and low-income rent reduction programs were noted. At the same time, a few reviewers mentioned higher pricing or that costs felt expensive, indicating variability depending on apartment size and services. Operational concerns raised include an accounting dispute and difficulty reaching accounting, billing errors, and scheduling coordination issues tied to a third-party system; these issues suggest occasional administrative friction. Additional concerns include language barriers with some staff when visitors are present and eligibility limits for independent living tied to fixed income rules. Reviewers also described management turnover and voiced a perception that ownership sometimes prioritizes profitability; these are points worth exploring in a tour or meeting with management.

In summary, Evergreen Court is presented across reviews as a well-run, socially active, and affordable smaller community with strong, compassionate caregiving staff and a director who is visible and involved. The facility offers solid basic services — three meals a day, laundry, on-site salon and medical coverage — and an active calendar and transportation that support resident engagement. Important trade-offs include an older building with some maintenance and administrative issues, occasional food quality complaints, limited dining hours, and some variability in perceived value and responsiveness from management or accounting. Prospective residents and families should prioritize an in-person visit to evaluate apartment condition, ask specific questions about maintenance response times, clarify financial eligibility rules, and confirm dining and activity schedules to ensure the community’s practical details match their needs.

    About Evergreen Court

Evergreen Court sits near downtown Bellevue, close to Overlake Hospital, surrounded by tall Cedars and Douglas Firs, and you might hear the birds in the morning when you walk along the winding paved paths that loop past community gardens and lush greenery, and sometimes you can even stop by the water feature at the entrance or take a seat near the fireplace in the library. Folks live in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom rental units, and every apartment comes with a kitchenette, a full-sized fridge, a microwave, and a two-burner cooktop, plus patios or balconies so residents can get fresh air or look out over the pretty landscaping. Evergreen Court offers both independent living and assisted living, and if someone needs help with things like medication, bathing, or dressing, there's a skilled nurse on staff part-time to oversee care, along with a team of kind, specialized workers who provide support.

Residents get three homemade meals each day in a dining area decorated with stylish lanterns and comfortable seats where everyone can gather and catch up, or bring in friends and family, and those who enjoy reading can make use of the private library, while others might join in activities like bingo or picnics, or head to the craft room, the salon for pampering, or the fitness center for a bit of exercise. Evergreen Court allows pets so residents can bring their animal companions, and every unit has a private mailbox, room-controlled heating, and an emergency call system to reach help quickly if needed. Laundry, flat linen, and housekeeping services come weekly, and there's a big laundry room for residents who like to wash their own clothes, plus scheduled van, bus, and town car transportation for shopping, outings, medical appointments, or just regular errands.

Staff keep up with wellness programs and review care plans with families and residents often, making sure the right help's there as health needs change, and residents describe the staff as caring and friendly, treating people like family and making things feel joyful and helpful. Floors plans are designed to meet different needs, with both Medicaid and market-rate apartments, and some units follow affordable housing rules with income limits. The community welcomes seniors age sixty-two and up, offers private rooms, and has secure outdoor spaces, a workout facility, a community room, and gathering spaces meant for social events or quiet visits. Evergreen Court runs as a non-profit and joins the Washington State Affordable Housing Program, always working to give seniors reliable housing and care, whether someone wants to read in the library, walk the winding paths, sit in the sunny courtyard, join in a game, or just spend a peaceful day at home. Tours are available for anyone wanting to get to know the community a bit more, see how daily life works, and meet folks who live or work there.
