    Pleasant atmosphere but safety concerns

I liked the small, homey feel-clean rooms, home-cooked organic meals, frequent activities, friendly and compassionate staff, and a lovely shaded back deck. However the public spaces are small and dark, the yard is poorly kept and the kitchen looks worn, and I experienced serious care lapses: an unlocked medicine closet, staff refused cleaning and I was left in a wet bed for hours (I reported it). Overall, pleasant atmosphere and attentive staff in many respects, but some safety and maintenance issues need immediate attention.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, with repeated praise for cleanliness, a quiet and well-maintained environment, and a strong, compassionate staff. Many reviewers explicitly call out home-cooked organic meals, frequent social and entertainment activities, and an attentive, friendly caregiving team. The facility is repeatedly described as homelike and small-scale, which reviewers cite as a benefit for a personal, intimate atmosphere. The back deck and outdoor seating receive favorable mention for being spacious and having both shaded and sunny areas with nice furniture.

Care quality and staff performance are central themes. Multiple summaries describe the staff as compassionate, understanding, friendly, and exceptionally managed, and several reviews use terms like "impeccable care" or "high level of care." These consistent endorsements indicate that, for many residents and families, the caregiving meets or exceeds expectations and that staff create a supportive environment. Frequent activities and social opportunities also reinforce a positive quality-of-life picture for residents.

However, there are notable and serious concerns that contrast sharply with the otherwise positive reports. One review documents an alleged episode of neglect in which staff refused cleaning and a resident was left in a wet bed for six hours; this incident was reportedly escalated to the state. Relatedly, reviewers noted a safety issue (an unlocked medicine closet) and a maintenance shortcoming (garden/yard poorly kept). While the kitchen is described as clean, its condition was called poor in at least one summary. These specific safety and maintenance problems, combined with an allegation of active neglect, introduce a pattern of potential inconsistency in care and oversight that merits attention.

Facility attributes show a mix of strengths and weaknesses. On the positive side, reviewers frequently say the facility is clean, quiet, and nicely maintained indoors, and they appreciate the pleasant backyard/deck area. On the negative side, public interior spaces are described as small and dark, and the outdoor garden/yard upkeep has been criticized. The small, home-like scale is praised by many but also noted as limiting in terms of space and available information; this suggests that while some families prefer the homier environment, others may find the limited common space or lack of transparency problematic.

Management and consistency emerge as a key theme because of the mixed reports. Several reviews explicitly call the place exceptionally managed and highlight professionalism; yet the serious neglect complaint and safety lapses reported by other reviewers point to potential inconsistencies in staff training, supervision, or policies. The coexistence of glowing accounts and a severe adverse event suggests variability in resident experience or isolated but significant failures in procedure and oversight.

In summary, the reviews portray Abiezer Adult Family Home as a generally clean, quiet, and homelike facility with compassionate caregivers, good meals, active programming, and attractive outdoor decking. At the same time, reviewers cite tangible facility maintenance issues (kitchen, garden), safety concerns (unlocked medicine storage), and a particularly serious reported neglect incident that was escalated to state authorities. These mixed signals highlight the importance of verifying recent compliance records, asking management about safety protocols (medication storage, incident reporting, staff training), and touring the public spaces to confirm that the small-scale advantages align with individual preferences and care needs.

    About Abiezer Adult Family Home

Abiezer Adult Family Home sits in Edmonds, Washington, with the front door opening to views of Puget Sound, the nearby mountains, and parks with trees, so there's always a bit of calm and nature around, and the house itself is purpose-built to give residents a safe, quiet, and cozy place that feels homelike and welcoming, without being overwhelming in size or noise. There are only six licensed beds, and residents can choose between private rooms, a one-bedroom unit for memory care, or semi-private rooms, so everyone gets some say in how they live, and there's enough space for folks to have company or a bit of private time when they want it. Staff are credentialed caregivers and a registered nurse manages the home, making sure care is always there, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and the full team works to help with bathing, dressing, meal escorts, medication, grooming, and all the daily things that can make life safer and smoother.

The home takes people of all mobility needs-including those who use wheelchairs or walkers or need help with two-person transfers or even mechanical lifts-and there's support for people with big or small health changes, so if your health needs more help later on, there isn't a need to move out. Abiezer welcomes residents living with dementia, Alzheimer's, traumatic brain injuries, advanced illnesses, and mental health or behavioral challenges, and the secure memory care section is in its own building, ready with alarms, monitoring bracelets, and a strong safety system to prevent anyone from wandering away or becoming lost, which is especially important for people who sometimes walk off or feel confused. There's a long list of care options, like incontinence care with reminders, diabetes management with insulin injections and blood sugar checks, tube feeding, catheter care, wound care, oxygen therapy, and even total care for quadriplegics, so even folks with very serious needs can stay. Staff can also monitor for behavioral difficulties and help soothe or redirect those who might act out, have bizarre or difficult behaviors, or need extra support after dark.

Abiezer keeps a nurse on call at all times, and there's a doctor, dentist, podiatrist, and therapists-physical, occupational, and speech-who visit regularly, so checkups and health problems can often be handled in the home, and palliative, home health, and hospice services are all available for residents in later stages or in need of relief. They offer private duty nursing, as well as help for hearing and vision impaired folks, and specialty diets, including kosher meals, are provided, with meals often cooked using organic ingredients, and snacks, music, and small touches like complimentary newspapers and magazines are part of daily routines. For transportation, there's complimentary rides for residents, parking if residents still drive, and extra options if someone needs to go out to a doctor or somewhere that costs more, but the community is right by a bus line too, and that opens up easy access to nearby cities in Snohomish County.

It's not all medical-Abiezer provides daily activities onsite and offsite, with music, bingo, therapy dogs, outings, and devotionals for anyone interested, so there's more to do than just sit and watch television, and every room and common area is wheelchair accessible, with gardens, decks, patios, and even water or mountain views outside. Beautician and barber services are onsite, so everyone can get a haircut or style if they like, and there's church visits, holiday celebrations, and opportunities for recitals with a piano they have. Pets are allowed if folks want the comfort of an animal, and the house is kept clean, quiet, and welcoming, with plenty of security, a solid fire sprinkler system, air conditioning, and an emergency call button system. There's also support for daily household and personal tasks, including laundry, housekeeping, linens, toiletries, pharmacy deliveries, and reminders for health appointments, so no detail gets overlooked.

Abiezer accepts both men and women, and the facility welcomes visits between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm, so families can see their loved ones often. The home makes it possible for people to age in place since care gets adjusted as someone's needs change, from light or medium care up to total care, and even those with behavior challenges, development disabilities, or significant medical needs are considered for admission. The main goal here is safety and warmth, offering peace of mind for residents and families, with the understanding that getting older isn't always easy, but living in a smaller home with good food, company, fresh air, nearby parks, and help with whatever comes can make things feel a bit easier, day by day.
