    Friendly staff, serious safety concerns

I appreciated the friendly, caring staff, specialized foot/nail care, close health monitoring and lively year-round activities - residents often seemed happy and well looked after. However persistent bad smells, a rude/intimidating owner, unprofessional staff behavior and a medication overdose incident made my experience stressful. I cannot recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the provided reviews is highly mixed, with strong, specific praise from several reviewers balanced by severe concerns from others. On one side, multiple comments emphasize high-quality, attentive care and an active, supportive environment that contributes to residents thriving. On the other side, there are serious allegations about management and safety, including a reported medication overdose and descriptions of rude or intimidating behavior by the owner. These directly conflicting perspectives create an ambiguous picture that suggests experiences at the facility may vary substantially depending on the specific circumstances, time, or personnel involved.

Care quality and health monitoring are notable positive themes. Several reviewers report proactive, first-rate care, close monitoring of residents' health, and the ability of staff to address issues quickly. Those reviewers also describe staff as friendly, caring, and attentive, and they point to targeted services such as specialized foot and nail care. Combined, these points indicate that the facility can and does deliver personalized personal-care services and clinical attention for some residents, which reviewers link to a higher perceived quality of life and residents who seem happy and thriving.

Activities and quality of life are another clear strength in the positive reviews. The facility is credited with providing a range of social activities, including music time and year-round programming, which reviewers associate with resident engagement and wellbeing. Statements like "best place ever for the senior adults" and references to visible happiness among residents underscore that social offerings and daily structure are meaningful benefits for families who had positive experiences.

However, the negative feedback raises major concerns that should not be overlooked. The most alarming single claim is a reported medication overdose, a safety issue that requires verification and immediate attention from regulators or the facility itself. In addition to that extreme concern, other reviewers describe the facility as smelling awful and report unprofessional behavior from staff and an owner described as rude and intimidating. Several reviews characterize interactions as blaming and stressful for family members, and some reviewers explicitly state they would not recommend the facility. These reports point to potential problems with management, staff training, medication administration protocols, and environmental maintenance.

There are clear contradictions within the dataset that merit careful scrutiny. Positive notes about cleanliness in personal care (for example, clean feet after nail care) sit uneasily next to comments about an offensive odor in the facility, suggesting either variability in housekeeping or that some aspects of cleanliness are being managed while others are not. Similarly, multiple reviewers praise staff as friendly and attentive while others describe staff as unprofessional or blaming; this points to inconsistent staff performance or to differing expectations and interactions between families and specific employees or shifts.

In sum, the reviews describe a facility capable of delivering strong, person-centered care and engaging activities that contribute to resident wellbeing for some families, while also containing reports of potentially serious safety and management failures for others. The most significant red flags are the allegation of a medication overdose and reports about owner behavior and a stressful family experience. Anyone considering this facility should weigh both the positive and negative reports, seek direct answers from management about medication administration policies, staff training and turnover, cleaning and ventilation practices, and request references or recent inspection records to reconcile the divergent experiences reported here.

    About Family's Choice Care AFH

Family's Choice Care AFH is a family-run adult family home in Everett, Washington, with two houses on 105th Street SE, where care is given day and night by caregivers who have been helping seniors since 2011, and it's all overseen by a nurse who has a bachelor's degree and an EMT, so people needing a lot of personal attention are in good hands. This home takes both private pay and Medicaid, and keeps things homelike and friendly by letting folks bring pets with some rules, and smoking is allowed. There's a special focus on seniors who have chronic illnesses like congestive heart failure, diabetes, Parkinson's, or need help with breathing tubes, dialysis, or have behavior or mental health needs, and staff help people who need serious care like those who are bed-bound, have dementia or memory loss, or need recovery care after things like strokes or breaking a hip. Rooms are private or shared, and with a bed capacity of six, every person gets a care plan that fits what they like, need, and enjoy, so there's a chance to join in on games, movie nights, birthday parties, gardening, singing, crafts, and more, while getting help with things like bathing, dressing, meals, and therapies. The food is home-cooked and the home is always decorated for the season, so it stays cheerful and comfortable, and the staff manage daily needs like medication, wound care, and regular health checks, while a nurse is always available for advice or emergencies. Seniors with special diets, hearing or vision problems, developmentally disabled conditions, Alzheimer's, or even those recovering from recent hospital stays get support here, including extra services for hospice and end-of-life care in the last weeks of life. The environment's safe, with emergency call systems, alarm security, and all rooms are easy to get around for those needing wheelchairs or walkers, and with visiting hours every day, families can come often. Internet, cable TV, air conditioning, and good meals are included, and every room can be set up with a private phone for residents. There are doctors, nurses, social workers, and therapists who visit the home, and pharmacy deliveries are part of the service, so most care needs are met right on site. Family's Choice Care AFH focuses on kindness, respect, and making each day meaningful, and community members often mention how the staff go out of their way to treat everyone like an extended family.
