    Beautiful building, caring staff, pricey

I moved in recently and I'm extremely happy - Kathy Miller and the staff are lovely, responsive and genuinely caring. The brand-new, gorgeous building and cozy common spaces feel top-notch; units are modern, the decor is appealing, and there are extensive amenities (salon/barber, pool, gym, theater, bistro/pub, dining rooms) plus stimulating activities (exercise, classes, book readings, crafts, movies, bingo, trips, PT). Meals are restaurant-quality, COVID precautions are strong, and the community is safe, well-run and welcoming. Downsides: it's pricey with a large buy-in fee and some unit layouts (converted 2-bd to single, some 1-bds) weren't right for us; the move to assisted living was hard and I wished for more orientation on using services/how to ask for help. Overall I'm grateful - great staff/management and a wonderful place to live if it fits your budget.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for the quality of care, the caliber of staff, and the upscale nature of the campus. Care is described as high-quality and holistic, with personalized programming and a purpose-driven approach to resident well-being. Multiple reviewers emphasize attentive, compassionate caregiving alongside professional clinical support, suggesting residents and families feel secure and well cared for. Dedicated staff and leadership receive consistent positive mention, including specific recognition of individuals involved in transitions or management responsiveness.

Staff and culture are a standout theme. Words used repeatedly include warm, cordial, incomparable, and accommodating. Reviewers note that staff are not only professional but also vivacious and welcoming, contributing to a pleasant social atmosphere among residents. Management responsiveness is highlighted by several families, and a named staff member (Kathy Miller) is singled out for helpful transition support. The overall impression is of a team that is service-oriented, engaged, and effective at creating a friendly community feel.

Dining, activities, and wellness offerings receive equally strong endorsement. Meals are frequently described as first-class or like a five-star restaurant — nutritious, delicious, and professionally served. Activity programming is broad and varied, with exercise classes, book readings, crafts, movies, bingo, physical therapy, classes, and trips all mentioned. Reviewers describe activities as stimulating and purposeful, and the community appears to emphasize both social and physical wellness. Personalized wellness programs and holistic approaches are noted, reinforcing the sense that offerings are designed to support broad well-being.

Facilities and amenities are repeatedly called gorgeous, modern, and impressive. The building is new with large spaces and attractive design elements reflecting a Northwest or Native American-inspired aesthetic for some reviewers. Shared amenities are extensive: dining rooms, bistros, pubs, movie theaters, pools, weight rooms, beauty salon and barbershop, and multiple indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. Many reviewers compare the environment to a five-star hotel, noting cleanliness and top-notch maintenance. The campus layout and design are commonly cited as factors that contribute to residents feeling comfortable and proud of their home.

Safety and operations, particularly during the pandemic, are described positively. Multiple reviews highlight strong COVID-19 precautions and a well-run, safe environment. Operationally, reviewers applaud management and staff coordination, cleanliness, and the smoothness of many transitions into the community. However, some reviewers note that moving from independent to assisted living can be a challenging process emotionally and practically, and that additional orientation would be helpful.

Cost and fit are the primary concerns raised across reviews. A recurring theme is the high cost of residency, including a large buy-in fee and ongoing pricey charges. Several reviewers explicitly state that the community can be financially out of reach or not a good fit for every family. A smaller but significant practical issue is unit layout: a few reviewers experienced floorplan or conversion issues (for example, a two-bedroom converted to single or one-bedroom plans that did not suit their needs), and limited availability of preferred floorplans was mentioned. Finally, while staff are praised, some families would like more structured orientation and guidance on how to use internal systems and how to ask for help after move-in.

In summary, Aegis Living Mercer Island is portrayed as an upscale, professionally run community with excellent care, outstanding staff, high-quality dining, varied activities, and impressive amenities. It appears particularly well suited to families seeking a service-oriented, hotel-quality living experience with strong safety protocols and abundant programming. The main trade-offs are cost and occasional practical fit issues related to apartment layouts and the emotional/practical challenges of transitioning levels of care; some residents and families recommend more formal onboarding to shorten the adjustment period. For prospective residents who can afford the community and whose space and layout needs align with available units, reviews indicate a highly satisfying living experience. For those sensitive to cost or in need of very specific floorplans, the community may be less well suited without careful advance planning.

    About Aegis Living Mercer Island

Aegis Living Mercer Island sits in a spot surrounded by natural scenery and has a lodge-inspired design with cozy and grand touches like a four-story fireplace, a sky lounge up on top, and a courtyard that has a big fountain and the sound of water, which a lot of people find calming, and there's even a wall of wonder waterfall that stands out as something special. There are 128 licensed beds, with options for studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and companion apartments, so couples with different care needs can often stay together, and the inside feels welcoming with both spacious areas and smaller, quiet spaces for reading or visiting. The community offers all the usual types of care, including light assisted living, standard assisted living, memory care for dementia and Alzheimer's disease, along with respite and transitional care, and even end-of-life care, so folks don't have to move if their needs change.

There are trained staff available day and night, including nurses and caregivers who help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, laundry, housekeeping, and medication, and the staff build custom care plans for each resident, adjusting as things change, and there can be movement between care levels if needed. Memory care has its own programs for cognitive engagement, and the community stays locked and staffed at all hours for safety, especially for residents who might wander. Healthcare services happen right on-site including visits from doctors, lab work, X-rays, a pharmacy, physical therapists, podiatrists, and geriatric psychiatrists. People who need short-term stays or therapy after a hospital visit can find care here, as well.

Aegis Living Mercer Island has a solid mix of things for people to do, both for fun and for their health and minds, like a movie theater, a sports den to watch games, a pub and juice bar, a swimming pool for water aerobics, Balance Fit classes, a walking club, arts and crafts, gardening, music therapy, storytelling, and even a 3D Brain Teaser activity that gets folks thinking in new ways. There's a special boat for little sailing trips, a cheese-of-the-world class to keep things interesting, and a schedule full of exercise, devotional services, social gatherings, and both onsite and offsite events, with the Sky Lounge giving folks a nice place to gather in the evenings. The community serves meals throughout the day with dining rooms that feel comfortable, chef-prepared food with options to meet different needs, and snacks are always handy. High-speed internet and Wi-Fi are everywhere, and there's an on-site beautician for hair and grooming.

Aegis Living's Family Link program helps families keep up with their loved ones, and they offer support for different cultures, including tailored services for Asian residents. There's a focus on keeping things sustainable and being active in the neighborhood community. Unique programs like Parkinson's Care and Red Light Restore stand out among the offerings, and the management keeps a steady hand on operations, always working to make things better for seniors who want a good mix of care and independence. The place is licensed and follows state standards. All in all, there's a steady and caring environment here with an emphasis on well-being, safety, and plenty of ways to stay involved as you get older.
