    Warm, compassionate staff and care

I'm very pleased with the warm, professional staff and compassionate nursing - they consistently go above and beyond. The building is clean, well-maintained and feels homey, meals are good, and there are plenty of activities plus easy access to the nearby senior center. My family and I feel confident in the care here and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression The facility presents as a well-kept, homey assisted-living community with a consistent emphasis on personalized care and a welcoming, non-institutional atmosphere. Many families and residents praised the staff for being friendly, respectful and proactive; common positives include on-site nursing coverage seven days per week, reliable medication management, and clear communication with families. Apartments are described as spacious and clean, with basic amenities (free cable, views, panic-button systems) that reinforce a sense of safety and comfort. The location adjacent to a senior center is repeatedly cited as a convenience. Care and staff Care quality is commonly described as compassionate and individualized. Routine clinical supports — on-site RN/LPN coverage, medication administration, and nursing availability for issues beyond basic assistance — receive favorable commentary. At the same time, the reviews indicate variability in day-to-day staff performance and responsiveness: while many accounts highlight staff who go above and beyond, a minority describe delayed responses to urgent events and concerns about the tone of staff–resident interactions. These divergent accounts suggest the facility can deliver strong care but may have occasional gaps in incident-response protocols and consistency of staff behavior that are worth reviewing in person. Dining Dining is a frequently noted strength: flexible open dining, proactive wait-staff checks, varied menus, and the ability to place special orders contribute to a positive mealtime experience for many residents. Several comments emphasize balanced meals and pleasant dining-room service. There are isolated notes of inconsistent food quality, so prospective residents may want to sample menus and ask about menu rotation and food-quality oversight. Activities and transportation The community offers a regular daytime activity calendar — exercise classes such as Sittercize, social events, outings, and weekend gatherings — and organized transportation for many scheduled excursions. However, a consistent pattern in the feedback is limited programming after early evening hours (reviews describe the community as quiet after about 6:30 p.m.), and occasional limits on transportation to nearby amenities during off-hours. Families should ask about evening/weekend programming and the availability of transport to nearby centers outside organized outings. Facilities and living environment Physical spaces are generally described as clean, modern, and well-maintained; one-bedroom units are especially favorable. Amenities such as a beauty shop on-site and secure emergency-call systems are positives. A small set of comments reference basement or lower-level units that feel closed off, and proximity to a train line means some noise exposure for certain apartments. These are location- and unit-specific considerations that merit a unit-by-unit tour. Management, costs, and policies Front-desk responsiveness and administrative accommodation receive many positive mentions. Conversely, cost and billing practices are a recurring concern: reviewers cite unclear initial quotes, ongoing fee increases, and involvement of third-party financial managers that can complicate billing transparency. There are also policy constraints tied to semi-private/Medicaid-conversion rooms — such as roommate-compatibility requirements — that families should review carefully. Asking for a detailed, written fee schedule, explanation of roommate policies, and how billing changes are communicated is advisable. Notable patterns and recommendations The overall pattern is of a community with strong daytime programming, attentive staff, and well-maintained living spaces, offset by occasional variability in staff responsiveness and operational transparency around costs and roommate policies. Prospective residents and families would be best served by touring multiple unit types, sampling a meal, reviewing the incident-response procedures and staffing model, requesting a current activity calendar (including evening offerings), and obtaining a detailed, written fee and roommate policy. These targeted checks will help confirm whether the facility’s generally positive strengths align with a specific resident’s clinical and lifestyle needs.

    About Hillside Assisted Living

Hillside Assisted Living sits at 112 Kennebeck Ave N in Kent, WA, right in the Scenic Hill neighborhood, and this place mainly focuses on assisted living and senior care with a service list that covers assisted living, memory care, and homecare onsite, and folks living here get help with daily tasks like bathing, grooming, medication reminders, and sometimes things like ambulation and transferring, plus incontinence and select dietary help, so it's good if someone needs more personalized care. It's known for its friendly and helpful staff, always around 24 hours a day, and they've got nurses on staff and doctors on call if someone needs extra help, which can make things a bit more comfortable and reassuring, and for extra safety they've got an emergency call system and on-site property security, which means people can feel safer day and night. Hillside has a cozy, smaller setting, which helps people feel more comfortable and lets them get to know their neighbors, and the staff are warm and professional, really trying to keep things running smoothly for everyone, with all sorts of activities and events planned to help keep the mind, body, and soul active, and there's even scheduled transportation to help folks get to where they need to go. This place offers apartment living in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts, with individually controlled heat, wheelchair accessible showers, and private resident parking, so people can pick what works for them, and there's weekly housekeeping, linen service, routine maintenance, and all the utilities are paid except for phone service, which makes it easier to keep track of bills, plus Wi-Fi and high-speed internet are available for folks who like to stay connected. People get three meals a day plus snacks, and they try to make sure the food is nutritious and made with good ingredients, and if someone needs a special diet they can work with that, and there's an on-site beauty and barber shop, plus both indoor and outdoor common areas for relaxing or socializing, and they don't allow indoor smoking, which some folks appreciate. Hillside's pretty focused on making things comfortable and private, and they'll work with residents to make sure they're getting care that's right for them by offering flexible services and privacy in their assisted living apartments, with a strong sense of community that includes devotional services, physical and occupational therapy, podiatry, hospice, and respite care, and they'll help with arranging extra laundry and health monitoring services as needed. There's a calendar packed with social, cultural, and educational activities, so people have a chance to meet others, keep busy, and learn something new, and the place is pet-friendly or has nearby pet-friendly options if you want to keep your animal companion close. Hillside Assisted Living isn't listed for sale or rent right now, but it's in a spot near shops, recreation, and other rental choices like townhomes and apartments, and the community holds up legal protections for LGBTQ individuals and supports all forms of independence and privacy while providing care, with a 5.0 satisfaction score from reviews and recognition for being an award-winning, service-rich community.
