    Spotless bright apartment caring staff

I live here and I love it. My bright, spacious apartment is spotless and well-maintained; staff are friendly, caring and responsive, and repairs happen fast. Dining is excellent (generous portions, gluten-free options), there are abundant activities and trips, lovely gardens, pool/Jacuzzi and easy parking, and the location is walkable to shops and parks. It feels safe, family-like and independence-oriented with higher levels of care available - excellent but costly.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with frequent praise for the staff, dining, facilities, and active lifestyle offered at Aljoya Mercer Island. Reviewers consistently describe staff as friendly, compassionate, and attentive, often interacting with residents by first name and responding quickly to maintenance requests and personal needs. Management is reported as receptive to suggestions and uses resident meetings for issue resolution, which supports a sense of resident empowerment. Multiple long-term residents and multi-year endorsements appear, lending credibility to the community's stability and quality.

Care quality and support services are highlighted as strengths. Reviewers note competent medical staff, assisted-living-ready rooms, and end-of-life support. The community atmosphere is frequently described as family-like and safe, with compassion during difficult times and attentive staff during grieving. There are numerous comments about staff patience, trustworthiness, and individualized attention, suggesting high standards of personal care. Weekly housekeeping, prompt repair responses for plumbing and other issues, and consistent safety protocols contribute to a well-managed living environment.

Facility and location features receive consistent praise. The property is described as beautifully kept, with well-maintained gardens, redecorated public areas, artwork on floors, and versatile public lounges and gathering rooms that accommodate family events. Apartment units are noted for good layouts, bright rooms, balconies, air conditioning, and options that include fireplaces; two-bedroom units and a range of sizes provide choice. On-site amenities include a pool, Jacuzzi, salon/barber services, an on-site restaurant (Lilley's), coffee area, and easy parking. The downtown Mercer Island location is repeatedly complimented for walkability to shops, restaurants, parks (including proximity to Luther Burbank Park and waterfront), and light rail access, making it convenient for errands and outings.

Dining is a standout theme. Reviewers often singled out the food and dining program as superb, noting a new chef (named in reviews) and a long-tenured dining room manager that have improved menu variety and accommodated dietary needs like gluten-free options. Dinners included in monthly dues and an on-site restaurant with good service are appreciated, and meal portions and taste are frequently praised. A few isolated reports criticized breakfast quality (cold or overcooked, missing items), but the dominant consensus celebrates fresh, local, and varied cuisine as a major benefit of living there.

Activities and social life are robust and varied. The activity calendar is described as busy and engaging, with exercise classes, daily fitness, singing, concerts, lectures, art classes, bridge, bocce, and organized trips. Transportation and scheduled bus trips expand residents' options for outings. Residents report that social opportunities reduce loneliness and create a small-community feel where neighbors know each other. The presence of resident volunteer or resident-created activities is noted as contributing to an empowering, engaged lifestyle.

Management, operations, and financial notes show generally positive impressions with a few pragmatic caveats. Management is seen as responsive and open to suggestions, with resident meetings used to address issues. The community appears in demand, as indicated by a waiting list and endorsements from long-term residents; reviewers mentioned refundable deposits and payment plan options in some contexts. However, cost and eligibility are recurrent practical concerns — several reviews note the community is expensive and not accessible to everyone. Prospective residents should verify qualifications and affordability. There are also sporadic reports of inattentive front desk behavior or a laissez-faire attitude from some staff members; these appear infrequent but are worth noting for visitors and families to consider during tours.

In conclusion, the reviews portray Aljoya Mercer Island as an exceptional retirement community with high marks for staff attention, dining, maintenance, and an active, social environment in a desirable walkable location. The most frequent strengths are caring and responsive staff, excellent and accommodating dining (including gluten-free offerings), beautiful grounds and public spaces, plentiful activities, and quick maintenance response. The primary concerns to verify in person are cost/eligibility, current breakfast consistency, and occasional front desk attentiveness. For most reviewers, Aljoya represents a life-enhancing, safe, and well-run option on Mercer Island, frequently described as a benchmark for retirement living in the area.
