    Clean caring staff excellent meals

I placed my mom at Maple Glen Assisted Living in Shelton and I'm very pleased - clean, comfortable apartments in a quiet, scenic spot near the hospital and walking trails. The staff are professional, caring and attentive, meals are excellent and customizable, and activities (dominos, exercise, rec room) keep residents engaged and happy. I have real peace of mind seeing residents well cared for; occasional staff turnover and a direct communication style are minor drawbacks, but overall her quality of life has improved.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Maple Glen Assisted Living is predominantly positive, with repeatedly mentioned strengths in staff attitude, resident well-being, cleanliness, meals, and activities. Many reviewers emphasize that the staff are caring, kind, professional, and attentive; several call out the executive director and administration as helpful and excellent. Multiple family members report that moving to Maple Glen reduced stress, improved quality of life for residents, and provided peace of mind — including for those living out of state. The facility’s physical environment is frequently described as clean, comfortable, and pleasant: residents have comfortable apartments or studio options, clean common areas, a rec room, and access to a walking trail in a quiet, scenic location near a hospital. Meals are a clear strength: reviewers note very good food, customizable meal options rather than a rigid daily menu, and three meals provided each day. Activities are also well regarded — planned, varied, and timely — with examples such as dominoes, exercise classes, and other social offerings that keep residents engaged and socially connected.

Despite the generally favorable picture, there are consistent and notable negative themes that emerge from a minority of reviews. Several reviewers describe inconsistent service quality and occasional lapses in care. There are direct complaints alleging poor care, favoritism among staff, and unprofessional behavior in certain instances. Some reviewers express frustration with management responsiveness — characterizing leadership as unresponsive in particular cases — and others cite staff turnover or recent personnel issues (one review mentions the firing of a problematic employee). Such reports suggest variability in how consistently the facility delivers its otherwise-strong day-to-day care.

Safety and front-desk/security issues are among the more serious concerns raised. A reviewer reported that service “has gone by the wayside,” that no one greeted visitors and there was no staff presence in the lobby, expressing worry about vulnerable residents and specifically noting no safety assessment at check-in. Another reviewer said a message at the front desk made them feel sick. While these comments are fewer than the positive ones, they represent high-impact issues because they relate to resident safety and facility oversight. Several other reviews mention communication that can be “direct” and interpreted as brusque; while some saw this as merely frank rather than disrespectful, a few took it as evidence of poor bedside manner.

Patterns in the reviews point to a facility that largely succeeds at delivering compassionate, resident-centered care with good amenities but may suffer from occasional personnel and management inconsistencies. Praise for the staff’s kindness, the executive leadership, meal quality, engaging activities, cleanliness, and the positive effects on residents’ social lives appears repeatedly. Counterpoints cluster around intermittent declines in service, troubling front-desk/lobby safety impressions, favoritism or unprofessional conduct by certain employees, and concerns about turnover and managerial follow-through. These dissenting voices are fewer but strong in tone, indicating that experiences can vary significantly depending on timing, specific staff members, or situations.

For prospective residents and families evaluating Maple Glen, the reviews suggest it is important to ask targeted questions during tours and move-in: inquire about current staff turnover rates, staffing levels at the front desk and during peak visitor hours, safety and check-in procedures, procedures for new resident safety assessments, and how the facility addresses complaints and staff performance issues. Also verify activity schedules and sample menus if dining and programming are priorities. Overall, many reviewers report that Maple Glen provides compassionate, organized, and engaging assisted living with clean, pleasant facilities, but a smaller subset of reviews highlights important operational and safety concerns that prospective families should clarify before committing.

About * Maple Glen Assisted Living

Maple Glen Assisted Living Community sits as a facility run by Aidan Health Services and has a total of 73 licensed beds, with an occupancy rate of 0.1915, and it's managed by Kelly Crabtree and the executive director is Jaimie Hans, and the main focus is helping seniors with assisted living while also supporting other care options like Independent Living, Memory Care, Home Care, Adult Day Services, Long-Term Care and Skilled Nursing, Home Health Care, and Hospice Care, so there's something for almost every kind of support an older adult might need. Residents can get daily living help, but staff still let them be as independent as possible, and the whole place works to make life easier by handling chores like housekeeping, laundry and dry-cleaning, and even grocery shopping, which can really take a weight off someone when they're not wanting to fuss with all those things. There's a home-like feeling throughout the building, and people can find comfort similar to what they have in their own houses, but here they've also got shared spaces like outdoor walking paths, indoor and outdoor common areas, a swimming pool and hot tub, a beauty salon, a library, a game room, and even a movie/theater room, with fireplaces in the Italian/common areas and a patio garden where folks can enjoy some fresh air and sunshine. The dining program has restaurant-style dining, a private dining room for special gatherings, and anytime dining, so people aren't on a strict schedule, and they can have special diets like low or no-sugar and low or no-sodium, with options for guest meals and room service, so food is taken care of pretty thoroughly. The community offers activities for social, educational, and entertainment purposes, encouraging everyone to keep active and socialize, and these activities help people keep their quality of life high and their days less lonely. There's specialized caregiver training, devotional services onsite and offsite, and different religious services with visiting chaplains and rabbis, which gives comfort to those with spiritual needs, and the staff can help with memory care for people who need it due to cognitive changes. The place also supports mobility and convenience with wheelchair accessible showers, complimentary transportation, resident parking, and even makes bus line access easier. They want everyone to feel respected and allow for personal choices, with plenty of support but also space to enjoy life at their own pace. Maple Glen Assisted Living Community really does aim to let seniors age in place, provide respite or hospice care as needed, and focus on a daily experience that feels familiar, friendly, and supportive as they handle the details so residents and their families can spend more time enjoying each other and less time worrying over chores.
