    Welcoming memory-care with minor issues

I placed my mother here and overall I'm very satisfied - the community is welcoming, spacious and generally very clean, with private rooms (own A/C), an excellent memory-care unit, lots of activities, good food, and a fenced, ADA-compliant courtyard. The staff have been kind, professional, attentive and communicative (resourceful even in bringing in hospice). My only concerns are recent staffing reductions, occasional lapses in cleanliness and notifications about changes, and limited outdoor shade; despite that, I would recommend this caring, safe place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center is predominantly positive, with a strong emphasis on compassionate, professional, and communicative staff and a particularly well-regarded memory-care unit. Many reviewers highlight that staff are kind, attentive, and easy to talk with; family communication is frequently praised, and management and administrators are described as responsive and resourceful. Several comments specifically note that staff helped coordinate hospice when needed and that the facility treats residents with warmth and respect, creating a welcoming and safe environment.

The memory-care services receive especially high marks: reviewers note dementia-specific areas, low windows for easy bed viewing, attractive room layouts, two aides available in memory care, and a broad slate of memory-focused activities. The activity program across the community is also a common strength — regular exercise programs, piano players, visiting therapy animals, holiday events and parties, and other daily engagement options help create an active, social environment for residents. The courtyard and outdoor space are described as attractive and well-kept (fenced and ADA-compliant sidewalks), providing a safe area for residents to enjoy the outdoors.

Dining and accommodations are other consistent positives. Multiple reviewers describe the food as excellent, with choices and healthy meals offered; the dining area is frequently described as clean, busy, and social. Private apartments are praised for being spacious, having individual climate control (AC/heating), room for a small refrigerator, and large closets, with nice views in some units. The interior of the facility is often called colorful, well-decorated, and pleasantly scented, contributing to an overall fresh and comfortable feel.

Despite the many strengths, there are notable concerns that appear across a subset of reviews. Several reviewers report reduced staffing levels and describe consequent declines in cleanliness and care quality; these critiques include statements that the facility was "not clean" or that care quality was lacking. Some family members also mention that changes were made without notification, creating worry about resident welfare. These issues suggest some variability in the resident experience — while many families are highly satisfied and would recommend the community, a minority have experienced lapses tied to staffing and communication gaps.

Smaller, but recurring, practical concerns include the lack of a replaced canopy/limited shade in outdoor seating areas and a desire among some residents or families for a live-in pet option (or more permanent animal presence). These items are less about core care and more about lifestyle preferences and grounds maintenance, but they come up frequently enough to note.

In summary, Mountain Memories appears to deliver high-quality, compassionate care for most residents, with particularly strong offerings in memory care, activities, dining, and family communication. The facility’s atmosphere, staff professionalism, and well-appointed rooms and grounds are frequently praised. However, prospective families should be aware of reported variability: a subset of reviewers cite staffing reductions, inconsistent cleanliness, and occasional lapses in notifying families about changes. These concerns warrant direct questions during a tour or conversation with management (for example, asking about current staffing ratios, cleaning protocols, notification policies, and outdoor improvements) to ensure the community’s present conditions match the positive experiences many residents and families report.

About Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center

Mountain Memories Assisted Living & Retirement Center offers a place where seniors can live with comfort and get support as their needs change over time. The community has both independent living, assisted living, and a memory care unit made for people with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia. The building is secure, with systems like alarm bracelets and computers that alert staff if someone tries to wander. The staff includes nurses, a medical director, and a doctor on call, so help's always nearby day or night. Nurses manage medications, including insulin shots and blood sugar checks, and help with daily needs like grooming, bathing, and moving from bed to wheelchair, using mechanical lifts if needed. There are special memory care plans and therapy activities to help those with dementia, including reminiscence therapy, Montessori programs, and behavioral care when residents show challenging behaviors or need extra supervision. The facility welcomes people with pets, including cats and dogs, and even residents with difficult or wandering behaviors.

Rooms come in studio or semi-private options, with prices averaging about $5,787 for a studio and $5,138 for a semi-private. Each room has a bathroom, dresser, chair, wall TV, and some cozy touches, and they all have climate controls and space for a fridge and closet. Residents can decorate their rooms and join community life if they like, as the place feels homelike, relaxed, and welcoming, with a lobby that features a grand piano and a grandfather clock. The dining room has round tables for socializing, while the memory care wing has its own cozy space with a fireplace.

Meal service gives everyone three meals a day made by a chef, and the kitchen offers diets for people who need to avoid sugar, salt, gluten, or animal products. There's room service and a private dining room for family meals, and even international cuisine on the menu sometimes. The staff does laundry, helps with cleaning and shopping, and offers transportation to appointments and outings, with both free and paid options and resident parking right there.

Seniors have lots of ways to stay busy, like trips out, art classes, gardening, trivia, Wii bowling, and cooking, along with pet therapy, meditation, worship, and other therapeutic or spiritual activities. The Life Enrichment Director oversees entertainment and education, making sure there's a resident calendar full of activities. They do onsite and offsite devotional services for different faiths, and the community is pet friendly, with raised gardens, outdoor and indoor walking paths, an atrium, courtyard, and plenty of quiet corners-including a TV lounge and library. There's a beauty salon, an activities center, fireplaces in common rooms, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and guest meals available.

Mountain Memories allows seniors to move between levels of care as needs grow, so people can stay in one place even if their health changes. The staff work with complex medical needs and behaviors, and they strive to keep every resident as independent as possible. There's a cheerful and friendly feeling among staff and residents, with awards for care and activities, and the facility is managed under an ERCC Management Services Agreement, meaning there's experienced leadership, with roles like Executive Director, Director of Nursing, and others to keep things running smoothly. The whole place is set up to be safe, welcoming, and supportive, and people living there can take pride in feeling respected and part of a true community.
