    Excellent care, clean apartments, activities

I'm very pleased with this senior living community. New leadership has improved care while pricing remained reasonable; apartments are clean and well-appointed (kitchenette, private rooms, accessible baths) with lovely lake and courtyard views. The staff are friendly and accommodating, the food is very good, and the busy activities program - movies, live music, walks, exercise, library, theater - keeps me engaged; I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: MasonWoods presents as a well-appointed, scenic senior-living community with many features that appeal to active residents and families. Reviewers consistently cite cleanliness in common areas, accessible bathing facilities, varied social programming, and multiple on-site amenities such as a restaurant, shop, theater, library, and exercise classes. Apartments commonly include kitchenettes and the option to furnish units with personal furniture, and the site’s courtyard and lake views are noted positively.

Care and staff: Interactions with staff are generally described as friendly and accommodating, and several accounts highlight helpful assistants and an overall welcoming tone. At the same time, there are operational concerns about supervision and accountability: reviewers describe an unclear chain of command and inconsistent task ownership for routine care activities. New leadership has been credited with improved care assessment in some cases, but transition-related instability and uneven follow-through remain themes that prospective residents should evaluate during a visit.

Dining and services: Dining is frequently praised—food quality and an available three-meal structure with snacks at events are positive points. The presence of an on-site restaurant and shop expands dining and convenience options. However, some reviewers observed discrepancies between advertised services and what was provided (for example, expectations about on-site culinary staff), and several noted dissatisfaction with recent price increases and added contracted fees. Ask about current meal staffing, what is included in base pricing, and any extra service charges.

Activities and facilities: The community appears to offer a broad activity calendar with movies, nature walks, live music, and group classes, supported by robust common spaces (large theater, TV room, library). Handicapped-accessible bathrooms and showers are present, making the facility suitable for residents with mobility needs. Facilities vary by building age: newer areas are described as thoughtfully maintained, while older sections show intermittent maintenance and cleanliness inconsistencies. Unit layouts also vary—some units are noted as small with limited shelf or storage space.

Management and patterns to monitor: Several reviews point to operational weaknesses that can affect day-to-day living: unclear supervisory roles, inconsistent responsiveness to tasks (bathing, laundry, routine care), and weak personal-property/laundry controls. Changes in ownership and management have corresponded with price increases and the introduction of additional contracted services, producing dissatisfaction for some families. While leadership changes have produced some improvements in assessment and care planning, prospective residents should confirm current staffing models, supervision, laundry/property protocols, and a clear written description of included services and fees.

Bottom line: MasonWoods offers many amenities, an active program of events, accessible physical spaces, and attractive grounds that will suit residents seeking social engagement and scenic surroundings. Prospective residents and their families should balance those strengths against operational concerns—particularly around supervision, laundry/property management, service consistency, and fee transparency—by conducting an on-site tour, reviewing current staffing/supervision plans, and obtaining written details about what services and fees are included.

    About MasonWoods

MasonWoods is a senior living community in Cecil, Wisconsin, right on Lake Shawano's northern bank, where you'll find a quiet spot that's close to nature and offers a mix of care for older adults, with choices like assisted living, memory care, and services for those who need extra healthcare, including incontinence care, diabetes management, and help moving around, and folks don't need to worry about cooking since meals come with the living package, plus there are staff around 24 hours a day in case anyone needs help in a hurry. MasonWoods has activities with a full-time director, both inside and out, such as art classes, devotional gatherings, and trips or outings, along with indoor common areas where residents can spend time together, and it tries to create a social environment with things like guest meals and community spaces, and residents can even bring cats or dogs if they want. There are amenities like a beauty salon, plus staff can help with daily needs, from bathing and dressing to keeping track of medications, and memory care services support people with more significant memory loss. Units are open for rent or lease, mainly for those 55 and older, and some are federally subsidized for seniors or people with disabilities. MasonWoods uses a care comparison tool and care assessment feature, aiming to give guidance on what type of care fits each person best, and besides assisted living and memory care, the network in the Cecil area covers independent living and nursing home services too. The main assisted living building sits at D6446 Emery Ansorge Road, with hours Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 3:30PM, or by appointment. Some services, like apartment locating and health care incidental support, are in place for those needing them, and a full range of activities helps residents stay active and engaged. There isn't a fax number listed, but MasonWoods is there for people looking for a straightforward place to live with extra help as needed on a day-to-day basis.
