    Effective Rehab, Caring Staff, Spotless

I placed my grandmother here for rehab and have been very pleased overall. The rehab program and walker training were effective, nurse Brittany and social worker Jenny were communicative and caring, and the CNAs are helpful and polite. The facility is bright, spacious, spotless, with safe apartments, good meals and plenty of activities; staff communicate well with families and provide transport to appointments - I would recommend this for independent, assisted, or skilled care.

    Summary of reviews

Schmitt Woodland Hills Retirement Community receives consistently positive comments on atmosphere, physical environment, and day-to-day services. Reviewers emphasize a clean, well-maintained campus with bright, spacious rooms and pleasant outdoor views. The facility is described as attractive and comfortable, with safe apartment features such as grab bars and nonslip mats and convenient proximity to a hospital and clinic. Transportation to medical appointments is available, which families view as a useful operational feature.

Staff and clinical services are a frequent strength in the feedback. Many families and residents describe staff as caring, courteous, and respectful; individual clinical staff and support workers are often singled out for helpfulness. The community offers a rehabilitation focus with effective walker training and home-visit planning to facilitate safer transitions home, and it provides a continuum of care spanning independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing. These elements suggest the facility has resources and programming to support recovery and ongoing clinical needs for many residents.

Daily life and programming are similarly well regarded. Reviewers report a broad activities schedule (bingo, cards, music and dance, and other social events) and generally positive dining experiences — hot meals with variety and choice are highlighted. Families also note strong communication in routine matters and express satisfaction with the overall attentiveness of caregiving staff.

Despite broadly favorable impressions, there are isolated but significant concerns that prospective families should probe. A small number of accounts describe shortcomings in how the facility handled a resident’s final care and family communication during that time; these raise questions about consistency in end-of-life coordination and responsiveness in critical situations. In operational terms this appears as variability in clinical responsiveness and family communication during acute events rather than a pervasive trend in day-to-day care.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: during a visit, ask specifically about end-of-life care protocols, escalation procedures for acute events, staffing levels across shifts, and examples of how the facility communicates with families during clinical changes. Confirm rehabilitation and discharge-planning practices if recovery services are an important need. Overall, Schmitt Woodland Hills presents as a clean, well-run community with compassionate staff and a robust activity and dining program, but families seeking assurances around critical-event responsiveness should discuss those expectations with management before placement.

About Schmitt Woodland Hills Retirement Community

Schmitt Woodland Hills Retirement Community started back in 1965 and serves more than 125 residents with the help of over 120 staff working all day and night, and this place stands out because it's the only provider in the county that offers the full range of senior care under one roof, so you can come here for independent living, assisted living, in-home care, skilled nursing, and even memory care if that's needed, all from a faith-based perspective. The community has independent apartments for folks who want active, social living without worrying about maintenance, and you'll find both studio and one- or two-bedroom options, with things like wheelchair-accessible showers, laundry, parking, storage, cheerful common spaces, resident-run activities, and outdoor paths; if someone needs help, there's move-in coordination and support services too, with long-term and seasonal stays possible.

Assisted living services happen in the Westview Assisted Living center, where there are 26 private rooms and two remodeled suites, and folks here get help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, and getting around, plus a 24-hour call system for emergencies, and caregivers assist with things like transfers and light housework, so you can focus on friendships and hobbies, whether it's arts and crafts in the arts room, movie nights, or time in the tranquil garden right outside. Schmitt Woodland Hills also runs a licensed, Medicare-approved Health Center that offers 50 private rooms for skilled nursing care, and the staff is trained to help with complex needs, rehabilitation, and even specialized dementia care through programs like their dementia waiver, designed for those with mild cognitive impairment who need more attention and supervision.

Residents have a wide choice of meals with a restaurant-style, all-day dining menu, communal dining rooms, and special diets like diabetic or allergy-sensitive options, plus there's regular housekeeping, laundry, dry-cleaning, and support for personal grooming thanks to an on-site beauty salon and barber. Activities fill the daily schedule, so there's always something to do, be it social events, educational programs, worship, gardening, or lounging in the resident lounge at the Health Center. Pets are allowed, there are nice gardens for walks or visits with family, a handy library, easy access to transportation, and the place is close to restaurants, parks, churches, and hospitals like Richland Medical Center and Advanced Pain Management.

Safety is a priority with 24-hour supervision, an emergency alert system, and full wheelchair accessibility throughout, and the community supports residents who need in-home care as well, offering help with meals, medications, and light chores. Schmitt Woodland Hills accepts Medicaid and Medicare for care services in its accredited Community-Based Residential Facility, and there's dedicated space and staff for each level of care as needs change over time, with comfortable furnished rooms, telephones, and plenty of indoor and outdoor amenities. This place keeps life full, with both staff-led and resident-run activities, and it aims to provide comfort, support, and a steady routine for all who call it home, whether someone stays for a short time or for the long haul.
