      Loving environment but unsafe care

I was torn - the owners and many caregivers seemed loving, the place felt home-like, clean and organized, with fresh homemade meals, encouraging activities, and Margareta was accommodating. But I observed troubling care lapses: infrequent bathing, a shower stall cluttered with medical equipment, residents returned with stained clothes after lunch, many male aides made me uncomfortable, and I saw injuries (bruises, a split lip) with staff blaming dementia. I was even planning to move my mom there, but because of those safety and abuse concerns I cannot recommend this facility.

      Summary review

The reviews for Burz's Arrowhead Adult Care Home present a strongly polarized picture: multiple reviewers praise the facility for its warm, family-style atmosphere and attentive caregivers, while others raise serious, specific concerns about care quality and safety. Positive comments emphasize a small, home-like setting with loving owners, homemade fresh meals, clean and organized spaces, and friendly, accommodating staff — in particular one staff member (Margareta) is named as attentive. Several reviewers note that residents are encouraged to exercise, participate socially, and that some residents experienced improved mobility. These reviewers report trust in management, speak of a family atmosphere, and explicitly recommend the home or plan to place a family member there.

Contrasting sharply with those accounts are multiple troubling complaints about basic personal care and safety. Some reviewers report infrequent bathing and poor personal care practices; one reviewer specifically noted a resident left in stained clothes after lunch. The physical environment also drew mixed comments: while many found the facility clean and organized, one reviewer described a shower stall cluttered with medical equipment, suggesting possible maintenance and space-management problems. Bedroom size was called out as small by at least one reviewer, which may be an issue for some families.

Most serious are the allegations of physical abuse and consequent injuries. Several reviewers accused owners or staff of abusive behavior, describing bruises and a split lip, and alleging that caregivers attempted to excuse or minimize injuries by attributing them to the resident's dementia. These are high-severity claims that stand in stark contrast to other reviewers' characterizations of staff as loving and caring. The presence of multiple male aides living in the home also made at least one reviewer uncomfortable, raising privacy and safety perceptions for some families.

Taken together, the pattern is one of significant inconsistency in experiences. Positive themes — caring staff, homemade meals, cleanliness, and a family atmosphere — recur across multiple reviews and suggest that the facility can and does provide a supportive environment for some residents. However, the negative reports are concrete and serious (personal care deficits, hygiene lapses, and alleged physical abuse with documented injuries), and they undermine overall confidence for other reviewers. The coexistence of glowing and alarming reports creates an unclear overall safety and quality profile.

For prospective residents and families this means exercising caution and doing thorough, targeted due diligence. Key areas to investigate in person include direct observation of morning care routines (bathing/dressing), inspection of shower/bath areas and laundry practices, verification of wound or incident reporting procedures, staffing patterns (including which aides live onsite), staff training and turnover, and whether management documents and addresses complaints transparently. Ask for references from current families, review any incident logs or care plans, and consider arranging an extended visit or trial stay to observe daily routines and interactions. Because the negative reports include alleged abuse and injuries, families should treat those claims as high priority and request clear, documented responses from management before making placement decisions.
