    Friendly caring staff, needs activities

I live here and would recommend it. Julie and the staff are wonderful-kind, compassionate and responsive-and management and the owner are involved; communication with my family is excellent. Meals are nutritious, home-style, and dietary needs are accommodated, and I feel safer, more independent and emotionally steadier. My only issue is limited activities and resident engagement (chair yoga, games, PT and outings are reportedly in the works).

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is positive, with multiple reviewers highlighting high-quality personal care, attentive staff, good communication, and solid value for money. Care quality is characterized by individualized supports that contribute to increased resident independence, emotional stability, and a clear sense of safety. Physical care offerings such as on-site physical therapy are explicitly noted, and reviewers credit the community with helping residents regain or maintain functional abilities. The facility’s established presence in the community is also mentioned as a reassuring factor.

Staff performance and management receive consistent praise. Reviewers describe staff as caring, kind, and compassionate, and they repeatedly call out strong relationships with the manager, caregivers, and owner. Communication with families is reported as good and staff responsiveness to needs is emphasized. A specific team member (Julie) is singled out as wonderful, underscoring that there are standout caregivers who make a meaningful difference in resident experience. These interpersonal strengths appear to be a central reason many reviewers would recommend the community.

Dining and dietary accommodation are clear strengths. Meals are described as nutritious and prepared in a home-kitchen style, and the staff are receptive to dietary needs and to bringing in outside foods when requested. This flexibility around food and the emphasis on home-style meals contribute to residents’ satisfaction and likely support the emotional and physical well-being mentioned in other comments.

Activities and social engagement present a mixed picture. Several activities have been resumed — reviewers note chair yoga, games, and physical therapy among the offerings — but a recurring concern is that overall programming can be limited and that some residents experience a lack of engagement. Outings are noted as being planned or 'in the works,' but reviewers indicate those have not yet been carried out regularly. There is also a specific call for more resident-to-resident interaction, suggesting that while individual care is strong, communal social programming could be expanded or made more consistent.

In summary, the reviews portray Prentice Homestead as a caring, well-managed, and community-rooted facility that delivers solid clinical and day-to-day support, with notable strengths in staff compassion, family communication, and food service. The dominant area for improvement is social programming and engagement: activities are present but limited for some residents, and planned outings have not yet materialized. Addressing these engagement gaps would likely elevate an already well-regarded environment into a more fully rounded social community experience. Reviewers’ willingness to recommend the facility and the repeated positive comments about staff suggest that the foundation for doing so is strong.

    About Prentice Homestead

Prentice Homestead is a senior care community that sits in a quiet county setting with natural wildlife and safe outdoor spaces, and the homes there each have their own individual styles, comfortable decks, and secure yards, some even having gardens and koi ponds like at the Barton Home, and families will find the place run by women who've worked in senior care for over twenty years, often living right there with the residents themselves so there's always someone close by. Folks will get plenty of help with daily activities because the staff aims for a one-to-four ratio, and there are always caregivers, a visiting nurse, or other helpful people around, including a doctor on call and visiting therapists such as podiatrists and physical, occupational, and speech specialists, and everyone helps residents with things like grooming, toileting, and medication reminders. The staff handles laundry, cleaning, and getting everyone to appointments or outings, and there's a beautician who comes in so folks can get their hair done without leaving home, and meals get cooked fresh in the kitchen with a focus on nutrition and all kinds of dietary needs, offering kosher, vegetarian, low-sodium, allergen-free, and diabetic options with flexibility for outside food, so folks don't have to worry about what they're eating. Residents enjoy a busy schedule with games, chair yoga, gardening, arts and crafts, TV nights, cooking classes, karaoke, bingo, and even trips out of the house, plus everyone can use indoor and outdoor common areas, including a library, game room, and outdoor spaces for relaxing or visiting with friends. The community offers various levels of care like independent living, assisted living, memory care, respite care, hospice care, board and care and even adult day programs, and it's licensed and inspected by New York State, with all homes kept up to high standards by owners who check in often, so family members can feel comfortable knowing their loved one is safe. Safety is strong here with things like WanderGuard bracelets to prevent folks from wandering, emergency call systems, and staff trained to help those who might act out or try to leave, even helping those under 55 if that's needed. The property has internet, cable TV, on-site parking, and technology for safety like medical alert systems and medication dispensers, plus a secured memory care area that's purpose-built for Alzheimer's and dementia, with specialized activities meant to help with memory and keep routines stable. Folks who need more care as they get older don't need to move out, since Prentice Homestead provides different options for aging in place from independent apartments and townhomes to residential care homes, all with a focus on keeping the feeling friendly, family-like, and supportive.
