    Caring staff but dangerous understaffing

I liked the kind night staff, caring caregivers, responsive director, and outdoor/private visit space - my loved one adjusted well and dementia seemed managed. But the place is severely understaffed: missed or wrong medications, few nurse visits, residents not turned, bedsores and soiled bedding left, and filthy carpets. Rooms were misrepresented (ours was split/shared without being in the contract) and visitation scheduling was a constant hassle. Care was inconsistent - sometimes wonderful, often unacceptable. Overall I can't recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans toward concern. Multiple reviewers praise individual staff members and certain amenities, yet a number of serious care and facility problems are repeatedly reported. Positive comments focus on the compassion and personal connection offered by caregivers and some night staff, along with a responsive director who can be reached via text. Other tangible positives include outdoor space for visits, comfortable private visiting options, laundry service (clothes washed before delivery), an appreciated roommate option in some cases, and reports that dementia care has been stable or not worsening for some residents. The facility's affordability is cited as a plus by some families.

However, significant and recurring negatives undermine those positives. Cleanliness is a major concern (filthy carpets cited), and staffing levels are repeatedly described as inadequate. Understaffing appears to be a root cause of multiple safety and care issues: missed medications, incorrect medication doses due to outdated resident information, and reports of no regular nurse visits. There are alarming clinical concerns such as bed sores, failure to turn patients, and soiled bedding not being changed in a timely manner. Several reviewers said staff were slow or unavailable and that families felt the need to check on their loved ones daily to ensure basic care.

Rooming and contractual transparency are also problematic. Multiple reviews describe misrepresentation of room layouts (rooms split into two or shared without clear contract language), frequent moves of patients between rooms, and frustration that the contract did not specify the actual room type. These moves and handling have reportedly led to pain and potential injury for some residents. Visitation scheduling has been a source of family frustration despite the availability of outdoor and private visiting spaces.

Food and activities are inconsistently reported. Some reviewers said the food was good, while others called it lousy. Several reviews specifically mention a lack of activities, which can impact resident quality of life. Administrative responsiveness shows a mixed picture: while the director is described as responsive by text, there are simultaneous reports of poor oversight (no regular nurse visits, outdated medication information) and families feeling misled or dissatisfied with how contracts and rooming arrangements were handled.

A clear pattern emerges: staff are often described as caring, compassionate, and forming meaningful bonds with residents, and those individual relationships generate strong positive feedback. At the same time, systemic problems — primarily understaffing and poor facility management — lead to inconsistent care, medication errors, hygiene issues, and unresolved clinical concerns. For families prioritizing compassionate direct caregivers and low cost, the facility may have attractive elements; however, for families prioritizing clinical safety, consistent nursing oversight, cleanliness, accurate documentation, and transparent contracts, the reviews raise serious red flags. Several reviewers explicitly stated they would not recommend the facility. The dominant theme is that the facility's caring staff are frequently overwhelmed or constrained by operational shortcomings, producing a mix of heartfelt caregiver moments and potentially dangerous lapses in basic medical and custodial care.

    About Kate and Scot LLC

Kate and Scot LLC is an Adult Family Home in Renton, Washington, at 14536 Southeast 167th Street, and they serve King County seniors by offering six licensed beds in a small, home-like setting, which makes it a peaceful place for folks who need help with daily care. This place gives different types of senior living like Assisted Living, Independent Living, Memory Care with a program called "Memory Care," and Non-Acute Nursing or Skilled Nursing Facility services, so families can find care that matches what their loved ones need, whether it's for Alzheimer's, dementia, mental health, or even developmental disabilities. Kate and Scot LLC has a team of local expert advisors who help families look at all the options, compare places, and get detailed community information, plus they offer a free consultation to match people to the right senior living choice, which is helpful since there are so many different community locations and unique names around, like Best Quality Home Care AFH or Kennydale Golden Age AFH, all with their own star ratings and services.

The facility itself is focused on comfort and safety, with high-speed Wi-Fi, handicap accessible features, and visiting hours from 9:00am to 8:00pm, and since there are only six residents, the care feels personal and attentive, which can be nice for older adults who want a quieter spot. You'll find meal choices like organic and vegan, low sodium, no sugar, vegetarian, restaurant-style or anytime dining, and even room service, and every meal is planned for nutrition by chefs and meal planners. Seniors get personal support with housekeeping, activities, group meals, and all sorts of care services-there's medication management, diabetic care, high acuity care staffing, help with incontinence, and non-ambulatory care, and if someone just needs a companion through home care programs, that can be arranged, too.

This Adult Family Home is licensed with DSHS, is recognized by awards for care like Best of Senior Living, and works with a Feefo review system that gives a 4.6 star average from 3,440 customer reviews, so families can read feedback from real visitors and compare communities, and while Medicare isn't accepted unless a facility is certified, the long-term cost tends to be less expensive than full-time nursing home care. Kate and Scot LLC started under new ownership in June 2023, and they keep a focus on giving peace of mind, respectful relationships, and safe, home-like care that fits what families and seniors ask for, making sure needs are met with dignity and friendliness. Availability and pricing details are shared during the advisor process, and the advisors help explain all the terms-Adult Care Homes, Adult Foster Homes, Assisted Living Homes, Personal Care Homes-and what they mean for each person, so no one is left guessing what's included or how it works.
