    Exceptional caring community, excellent value

I stayed here for a respite visit and would absolutely place a loved one here. The staff are exceptional - caring, attentive, long-tenured, and truly go above and beyond; Administrator Bridget Kelly runs the place with passion and visible teamwork. The facility is immaculate and bright, with spacious rooms (many with patios), a beautiful garden, and easy move-in/out; everything was provided. Food is very good and the calendar is full - games, trips, parties, salon services, church bus and live music - so there's a strong sense of community. Care is personalized and responsive (even end-of-life care), and it felt like excellent value. Minor negatives: dining times can be early and the garden isn't always easy for frail residents to use. Highly recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the collected reviews is strongly positive, with the majority of comments praising Westborough Royale for its cleanliness, pleasant decor, roomy apartments, and well-maintained indoor and outdoor spaces. Many reviewers highlight large, airy resident rooms and living areas, private bathrooms in many units, and outdoor features such as patios, balconies, and an attractive garden. Facilities are repeatedly described as immaculate and meticulously maintained, with no bad odors and lots of natural light. Several reviewers also noted that the move-in and move-out processes (including respite stays) were smooth and well-managed.

Staff and management receive the most consistent praise. Reviews emphasize a caring, attentive, and hardworking team characterized by long-tenured employees and strong teamwork. The executive director and administrator receive multiple specific compliments — described as experienced, passionate, and running the place effectively. Staff are frequently portrayed as responsive, knowledgeable about residents’ individual schedules and needs, and willing to go above and beyond, including support for mobility and end-of-life care. The pattern is one of personalized attention: staff knowing residents’ routines, providing reliable updates to families, and creating an uplifting day-to-day environment.

Care quality is seen as compassionate and individualized. Many reviewers note that staff provide home-like care that improves residents’ quality of life, with attention to mobility and daily routines. Several comments emphasize responsiveness and personalized care plans. At the same time, reviewers acknowledge realistic limits: staff are not “miracle workers,” and some health declines are inevitable despite good care. One or a very small number of reviews report rude or poor care, suggesting isolated negative experiences; the overarching impression remains strongly positive, but families are advised to ask about consistency and follow-up in care when touring.

Dining and food service are frequently praised. Reviewers describe the meals as very good, healthy, and on a thorough menu, with live singing during meals and a pleasant dining room atmosphere. Some reviewers specifically mention enjoying the food and the dining experience, while a minor complaint appears about an early dining schedule that did not suit all tastes. The facility also provides additional on-site services that contribute to resident well-being, such as a beauty salon and nail services.

Activity programming and community life are highlighted as strengths. Several reviews reference a full, varied calendar with games (bingo, blackjack), parties and festive holiday events, trips, exercise classes, movies, and other entertainment. There is a clear sense of community in many accounts — residents socializing in common rooms, staff facilitating events, and family involvement in garden use. Reviewers did note that COVID impacted some activities, reducing or altering programming for periods of time, but many still reported robust offerings and regular events.

Pricing and value receive positive mention: the facility is described as reasonably priced or lower-cost relative to expectations, and reviewers often frame the experience as good value given the level of service, amenities, and activities. Practical conveniences — such as secure, safe premises, separate rooms for privacy, church bus service, and on-site religious offerings — are also appreciated by residents and families.

Notable concerns and patterns to consider: COVID-related interruptions to activities were mentioned by multiple reviewers, and at least one reviewer found the garden area difficult for very frail residents to use, indicating that outdoor amenities may not be fully accessible to everyone. The recurring caveat that staff cannot prevent all health declines means prospective families should set realistic expectations about medical outcomes and clarify the facility’s scope of care. Finally, while overwhelmingly positive, there is at least one sharply negative comment about rude or poor staff — an outlier but one that suggests families should verify staff consistency and ask for references or examples of how complaints are handled.

In summary, the reviews paint Westborough Royale as a well-kept, community-oriented assisted living option with strong, compassionate staff, engaged management, attractive facilities, varied programming, and good value for the price. Most reviewers would recommend the facility, citing personalized attention, quality meals, and an active social environment. Prospective residents and families should still tour the community, inquire specifically about accessibility of outdoor spaces, meal schedules, how staff consistency is maintained, and how medical issues or complaints are handled to ensure the fit matches individual needs.

    About Westborough Royale

Westborough Royale sits in South San Francisco and is a licensed community, also part of the Berg Communities, that's been around for some time with an experienced director who's stayed over 17 years. The place feels a bit like an old European hotel with its high ceilings and sun-filled lobby, big dining room, and a patio packed with flowers that's nice to sit in when the weather's good. The common areas include an elegant library, a game room with a pool table, arts and activity rooms, and a recreation room with comfortable seats and shelves full of books. The apartments come in styles from studios to single rooms, sizing from 280 to 500 square feet, with plenty of light and even kitchenettes for making small meals, though folks can always eat in the spacious, restaurant-style dining room with big windows and an easy-to-read menu, and there's room service for those who'd rather eat in private. Residents can bring some pets, and guests can join at meal times.

The community focuses on both social activities and health support, so you'll find regular trips to museums, local churches, lectures, and shopping, along with fitness classes and a wellness room. Folks here can join lots of scheduled events, like movie nights, music programs, and even decorate for holidays, so the place feels lively and homelike, decorated in ways that are bright and familiar. The outdoor spaces-including walking paths, patios, and gardens-give space for fresh air and gathering with others, and there are accessibility tools if someone needs them. There's onsite parking for residents, an in-house salon for hair and barber services, and community-run events to help everybody get involved. The place welcomes people who need assisted living or memory care, with a range of services covering bathing, dressing, medication help, and 12-16 hour nursing care, plus a 24-hour call system if anything goes wrong.

The staff is known for being caring and creative, focusing on a safe, happy environment, whether that's through special diet meals for folks with diabetes or kidney concerns, emotional support, or helping with daily routines. The pharmacy is onsite and there's linen laundry, dry cleaning, general housekeeping, and a laundry service, so folks don't have to worry about cleaning up after themselves. For those who want a short stay, there's respite care and an adult day care center, good for families needing a break or some help now and then. Language services cover English, Tagalog, and Spanish, which helps those with different backgrounds feel comfortable. Residents use free transportation to get to appointments or activities in town, and the grounds stay secure for peace of mind. Westborough Royale is active online with photos and updates, sharing their daily life on Facebook and YouTube, and the place keeps a fair reputation, with a review score of 3.8 from four reviews. All of this comes together in a place that tries to stay elegant but still feels comfortable and welcoming, meeting many different needs as people age.
