    Warm staff, excellent food, active

I moved here and the transition was smooth - staff are warm, caring and truly responsive, with proactive safety/COVID plans that put my family at ease. The food is excellent, the apartment is comfortable and customizable, and the abundant programs (lectures, art, fitness, pool, clubs and trips) have me active and social again. Beautiful grounds, nearby salt water and a genuine, family-like community with continuum-of-care options give me peace of mind - I'd recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive. Reviewers repeatedly highlight StoneRidge Senior Living for its compassionate, attentive staff and proactive, clear leadership. Staff members at all levels — from dining servers and activities personnel to administration and the Executive Director — are described as friendly, respectful, and often going “above and beyond.” Multiple comments emphasize that staff learn residents’ names quickly and provide personalized service, which contributes heavily to residents feeling welcomed and at home. The community is characterized as family-like, warm, and vibrant, with many long-term residents reporting improved well-being and satisfaction after moving in.

Care quality and medical services are consistently praised. Residents and family members note the convenience and reassurance of on-site healthcare: a concierge doctor, regular nurse coverage (24/7 nurse on call/house calls), and the Avalon nursing facility rated as 5-star and under the same roof. This continuum-of-care model is repeatedly cited as a major advantage, allowing residents to age in place with access to higher levels of care when needed. Reviews also highlight responsive direct-care staff, recovery-focused therapy services (physical and occupational therapy), and helpful care coordination during transitions.

Facilities, grounds, and location receive strong marks. The campus is frequently described as beautiful, well-maintained, and landscaped with garden plots, walking paths, and accessible outdoor recreation (bocce, planned pickleball). Apartments are modern, light-filled, and customizable; some units have wrap-around windows and Long Island Sound views. Amenities such as a saltwater pool, gym/fitness center, library, computer lab, woodworking shop, and guest suites are repeatedly referenced. The community’s top location — convenient to Rt. 95, Mystic Seaport, aquarium, shopping, theaters, and restaurants — is another commonly noted benefit that supports family visits and local outings.

Dining and housekeeping are prominent strengths. Numerous reviewers praise made-from-scratch, varied, and gourmet meal options served across attractive dining venues, with friendly servers and coordinated dining-room service. Weekly housekeeping and laundry (including quick laundering turnaround) are cited as important quality-of-life features. Meal service flexibility (meals delivered during early pandemic restrictions, daily meal deliveries, and room-service-like touches) is mentioned as a sign of attentive resident care.

Activities, wellness, and community life are a core theme. StoneRidge is portrayed as highly active and culturally rich: daily exercise classes (including aquatic classes and balance/tai chi), vigorous fitness offerings led by an outstanding fitness director, lectures and seminar series (Culturally Curious, Great Decisions), arts and creative classes (painting, art history, shows), musical events, social committees, and volunteer opportunities (library, Gardens & Grounds, publishing). These offerings helped residents forge new friendships, stay physically engaged, and report improved health outcomes. Even during the pandemic, staff adapted with virtual programming, exercise videos on closed-circuit TV, and safe socially distanced engagement, preserving community connections.

Management, communication, and pandemic response are frequently commended. Reviews point to conscientious leadership during COVID-19: early precautions, on-site vaccination clinics, weekly testing or video updates, and multiple communication channels for families (Zoom, FaceTime, window visits, plexiglass visits). Staff flexibility and volunteerism, along with proactive, transparent updates, provided peace of mind to long-distance relatives and reinforced trust in the community.

Notable patterns of concern are limited but worth noting. Cost is the most frequently cited downside — many reviewers describe StoneRidge as expensive or “pricey but worth it,” which raises affordability concerns for prospective residents. Some reviewers reported confusion about meal-plan details and move-in cost transparency, pointing to occasional administrative communication gaps around billing or packages. A practical limitation mentioned by more than one reviewer is the absence of off-hours on-site assistance for unscheduled personal-care needs (for example, help getting from bed to bathroom), which may necessitate hiring outside live-in aid — an additional and sometimes costly expense. A few operational issues appear in the feedback: isolated maintenance delays, and one isolated complaint about management discrimination toward an employee. There are also clinical limitations for some potential residents (a note that the community is not equipped to administer insulin), so medical needs should be confirmed before choosing this community.

In summary, reviewers overwhelmingly describe StoneRidge as a high-quality, well-managed senior living community with outstanding staff, robust health and safety measures, excellent dining, abundant activities, and a strong continuum of care through Avalon. The community’s facilities, location, and social life foster a sense of home, improved well-being, and strong resident-staff relationships. Prospective residents and families should weigh the premium cost against the breadth of services and peace of mind provided, and should clarify specific care limitations (e.g., insulin administration, off-hours personal assistance) and billing/move-in details before committing. Overall, the reviews portray StoneRidge as a caring, active, and professionally run community that many residents and families highly recommend.

    About StoneRidge Senior Living

StoneRidge Senior Living sits on 33 acres at 186 Jerry Browne Road in Stonington and has been around since 2004, and folks can find nearly 270 apartments for seniors with floor plans from one-bedroom units with 720 square feet to two-bedrooms up to 1,800 square feet, making it so people can pick a space that works for them, and there are also studio options. The building's a mid-rise, single-story type, but there are lots of common spaces-over 140,000 square feet-with things like dining rooms, a woodworking studio, a maker space, and a fitness center, and with pets allowed and handicap access, it feels open to many people. The grounds stay green and lush, giving residents a nice place to walk or sit.

StoneRidge offers independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care all within one community, with services through Avalon Health Center and what they call Life Care Services, so if someone starts more active and later needs more help, they can stay in the same community under the Life Plan model, which gives access to higher levels of care on campus-including long-term care, short-term rehab, respite, and hospice. StoneRidge calls its special services things like LCS Signature Programs and Assistance-In-Living, and the Memory Care wing helps people with dementia or Alzheimer's with round-the-clock supervision, secure areas, and programs to keep the mind active. Board and care homes on the property serve smaller groups in a home-like setting, while continuing care retirement community (CCRC) features mean someone can age in place and transition between care levels as needed, sometimes with something called a "life-care" contract that locks in a discounted rate for assisted living if needed.

StoneRidge has about 44 floor plan options and plans to add 70 more apartments, including 54 new ones for independent living and 14 with enhanced services for assisted living, part of a $40 million expansion. Meals get prepared with health in mind, and choices match various diets, plus dining stays easy and social. People join in on daily activities and events, which the community says cover social, physical, mental, and emotional health, and there are always things planned for residents to do. Regular tours show real life, dining, and programs to those curious about joining, and the environment's bright and inviting.

Safety and security matter here, with staff on call 24/7, and all services adjust to personal needs, aiming to help residents stay as independent as possible but step in with support when health or mobility makes it hard to do things alone. Skilled nursing includes rehab and wound care, and there's support in memory care for those needing extra help.

Unique to StoneRidge, there's a set of services focused on digital content and publishing, so residents or organizations can turn static files into flipbooks, magazines, or lookbooks, use Canva and Adobe InDesign, share and embed content across platforms, use QR codes, track stats, and collaborate as a team. These services apply across fields like art, marketing, education, real estate, and more, offering tools for digital portfolios, photo albums, or catalogs. Digital content can be sold as single issues or by subscription, commission-free, and features include adding videos and GIFs to highlight special work.

Residents use a portal to access resources, check the campus map, see events, or connect with staff. The campus stays focused on hassle-free living, healthy meals, and activities to keep life full and active. StoneRidge stays one of several area options that combine assisted living, memory care, and other services for seniors needing different kinds of support, all on property appraised at $34.2 million.
