    Resort-style living with excellent staff

I love living here - attentive nursing staff and resort-like independent living with well-laid-out, great apartments in a beautiful, very clean setting. The food is restaurant-quality, the dining room lovely, and there are nonstop activities (barbecues, trips, bocce, putting green, tai chi, bingo, concerts, lectures) that keep me social. Staff and residents are friendly; it's expensive, but my experience has been fantastic.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews present a strongly positive, even enthusiastic, view of Stonegates. Multiple reviewers describe their experience as "fantastic," "absolutely loved it," or "outstanding," and the dominant impression is that Stonegates delivers a high-quality, resort-like senior living experience. Praise is consistent across several dimensions: clinical care, hospitality-style dining, an active and varied activity program, clean and well-maintained spaces, and an engaged community of residents and staff.

Care quality and staffing: Reviews repeatedly single out nursing and caregiving as "extremely attentive," which indicates high satisfaction with clinical and personal care provided on site. Although the setting is described primarily as independent living, the mention of attentive nursing staff suggests that medical/support services are reliable and responsive when needed. Staff in general receive strong praise—descriptions such as "staff great," "friendly staff," and "helpful" recur, implying consistent positive interactions between employees and residents. While reviewers do not often comment explicitly on management or administrative decisions, the uniformly positive remarks about staff behavior and responsiveness reflect well on operational oversight.

Facilities, apartments, and cleanliness: The physical setting of Stonegates is characterized as beautiful and resort-like. Apartments are described as "great," "well laid out," and oriented toward community living, suggesting thoughtful floor plans and communal integration. Common areas and the broader campus are noted as very clean with pleasant smells, reinforcing the impression of strong housekeeping and maintenance. Several reviewers liken the property to a "five-star resort," which underscores a perceived higher-end finish and ambience.

Dining and food service: Dining emerges as a standout strength. Multiple summaries say the food is "delicious" or "wonderful," and the dining room is compared to a restaurant rather than an institutional cafeteria. This restaurant-style dining and the frequent positive comments about meal quality contribute substantially to residents' overall satisfaction and the resort-like characterization.

Activities, programming, and community life: Stonegates offers a broad and active calendar. On-site offerings cited include bocce ball, a putting green, tai chi, bingo, sing-alongs, card games, guest lectures, and live musicians. Regularly scheduled events—such as Friday summer barbecues—and off-campus outings like theater trips, movie nights, ice cream parlor visits, and weekly grocery store runs help create a lively social environment and opportunities for engagement. Reviewers emphasize both the variety and the social nature of these activities, noting friendly residents and a sense of community that enhances daily life.

Notable patterns and concerns: The only explicit concern mentioned in the summaries is cost—several reviewers or summaries describe Stonegates as "expensive." No other consistent negatives (such as staffing shortages, maintenance issues, or food complaints) appear in the provided material. The lack of critical comments beyond price suggests overall high satisfaction, but prospective residents or families should explicitly evaluate cost, contract terms, and value for money relative to other options.

Conclusion: In sum, the review excerpts portray Stonegates as a well-run, clean, and socially active senior living community with strong clinical care, hospitality-quality dining, a resort atmosphere, and a wide range of programming that promotes resident engagement. Staff and residents are repeatedly described as friendly, and the physical layout and apartment design are praised. The primary caveat raised in these summaries is price; otherwise, feedback is uniformly positive. Prospective residents should weigh the premium positioning against their budget but can reasonably expect attentive care, vibrant activities, and high-quality dining and facilities based on these reviews.

    About Stonegates

Stonegates sits at 4031 Kennett Pike in Greenville, Delaware, surrounded by rolling hills, woodlands, and well-kept grounds, and the community offers a calm setting with patios and balconies looking out over the landscaping, and if someone wants to live close to nature but also be near places like Longwood Gardens or the Brandywine River Museum, the location works out pretty well. The property has a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments with options on the first or second floor, the Manor House Apartments have layouts with a den or even two bedrooms, while the Westfield House Apartments feature studio, one, and two-bedroom units around a courtyard, and there are two or three-bedroom cottages with cathedral ceilings, patios or sunrooms, garages, plus attic storage if extra space is needed, so there's a range of styles and people can pick from different floor plans and choose private or shared rooms, and kitchens come fully equipped while each unit includes large bedrooms, good storage, private bathrooms with safety features, and emergency call systems connected to the health center. For care, Stonegates runs as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), which means residents find independent living, assisted living, memory care, and a 49-bed skilled nursing unit that's Medicare certified, all in one place, and there are licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, physical therapists, and more healthcare professionals on staff day and night, taking care of everything from medication management, help with bathing and dressing, to supervision for those needing more support, plus specialized care for memory loss, Alzheimer's, or dementia in a protected environment with protocols like emergency response features to help stop people from getting lost or wandering. For people who like a full schedule, there are daily activities, community-sponsored events, dining options for meals with friends, a calendar of fitness and recreation activities, a clubhouse, an arts room, comprehensive on-site healthcare, beauty salon and barber, game rooms, greenhouses, and even an arts and crafts studio, not to mention that residents can get housekeeping, linen service, transportation for appointments or outings, and the grounds are gated with 24-hour security and maintenance so folks can come and go safely. Plans are in the works for new assisted living and memory care spaces set to open in late 2025, giving more choices for anyone who wants those services. There's a buy-back program that lets residents sell homes back if needed, which gives some peace of mind, and the staff have a reputation for being long-tenured and dedicated, focused on making a safe, welcoming, and friendly place for everyone, and the monthly rates stay predictable so there are no big surprises. Residents can rest easy with the medical alert systems in bedrooms and bathrooms, help with mobility, and reliable coordination with outside healthcare like hospitals or local doctors, and family can visit in the Health Center. Stonegates comes off as a place with a lot of options and a steady approach to elder care, aiming for comfort, safety, and a sense of belonging without much fuss.
