    Caring, clean, social, cozy, recommended

I moved my great-grandmother here and we're very pleased. The staff are caring, friendly and responsive, the building is clean, well-maintained and secure, and residents are social with lots of activities, outings and a shuttle. Apartments are cozy and affordable but on the small side; management/maintenance can be slow at times (elevator/office access and occasional TV/cable issues). Overall it feels like a family-like community and I'd recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across these reviews is strongly positive, with frequent praise for staff, the social environment, cleanliness, and the range of activities and amenities. Many reviewers emphasize that Clairmont Oaks fosters a genuine sense of community — residents report making friends quickly, enjoying group activities (monthly birthday parties, movies, bingo, dancing, volunteer events), and appreciating staff efforts to include resident suggestions. The staff repeatedly receive high marks for helpfulness, friendliness, responsiveness, and support during move-in and health-related events; several reviews specifically note smooth transitions, attentive management in initial moves, and effective emergency responsiveness.

Care quality and staff: Reviews consistently describe staff as courteous, kind, and professional. Numerous comments cite attentive care, quick responses to needs, weekly wellness checks (blood pressure), daily check-ins or tag-based check-ins, and support from social workers and other care personnel. Several reviewers highlighted individual staff members (e.g., activity director, receptionist, manager Maxine) as particularly strong contributors to resident satisfaction. At the same time, some concerns surface about management accessibility and service hours — a few reviews report difficulty reaching the office or director, and at least one comment that certain care services or assistance effectively stop after hours.

Facilities and maintenance: The building is described as clean, well maintained, and attractively appointed in common areas. Laundry on every floor is frequently appreciated, as are public spaces such as the library, salon, activity rooms, dining room, and auditorium. Outdoor spaces and views are noted positively. However, reviewers also describe the property as an older building undergoing renovations; some units feel slowly updated and apartment layouts can be cramped. Operational issues that have arisen include elevator outages (sometimes only one elevator in service), and occasional maintenance/management challenges related to the large number of units.

Apartments and layout: A recurring and specific concern is apartment size and layout. Multiple reviewers call one-bedroom (and studio) units small or "boxy," with kitchens described as limited in space and functionality. One measurement cited is approximately 550 sq ft for a one-bedroom. Positive notes include walk-in closets, safety features in apartments, and clean, pleasant units for those who prioritize location and price over space. There is no in-apartment laundry, which some potential residents view as a drawback despite the convenience of floor laundry rooms.

Dining and food services: Dining is a mixed area. The facility offers one catered meal per day and in-house food delivery services; some reviewers praise the sufficiency and quality of food and the clean dining area. Others highlight shortcomings — for example, complaints that Picadilly food deliveries were not eaten and that dining choices are limited because only one meal is catered. Overall, reviewers seem to view dining as adequate but not a standout feature of the community.

Activities, fitness, and programming: Programming is a clear strength. Reviewers frequently mention plentiful activities (cards, bingo, dancing, movies, exercise programs), an engaged activity director who solicits resident input, and plenty of opportunities for social involvement. Fitness offerings exist, including a gym and exercise classes, but pandemic-related pauses and space/capacity limitations have impacted availability. At least one mention notes the fitness center was moved to a larger room but limited to only two people at a time during restrictions. Reviews indicate programming adapts to residents’ needs, with shuttle services for shopping trips and monthly outings to stores like CVS, Target, and Walmart.

Transportation and accessibility: The community provides shuttle services (weekly shuttle, monthly shopping shuttle) that residents value. There are mixed reports about transportation to medical appointments — many reviews say transport to doctor appointments is available, while a few specifically note it is currently not offered. Parking and drop-off logistics have occasional criticisms: limited visitor parking, a narrow drop-off/pick-up area, and some complaints during visitor-heavy times. The community enforces health precautions (masking and social distancing) during virus outbreaks, which has temporarily affected services and activities.

Management and operational concerns: While many reviewers praise management staff and specific leaders, several recurring operational concerns deserve attention. These include difficulty reaching administration or the director by phone, stated limits on after-hours care, elevator outages interfering with convenience and mobility, and technical issues with cable service after a switch to DISH (with some TVs reportedly not working and staff stating 1080HD requirement). Waiting lists are long for some units (a two-year wait was mentioned), which speaks to strong demand but may frustrate prospects. The building’s age and ongoing renovations also create intermittent disruptions.

Cost, availability, and overall recommendation: Reviewers often describe Clairmont Oaks as affordable and low-income friendly, with some figures ($600–700/month) noted by a reviewer — however, pricing and availability vary and demand is high in some unit types. Several accounts report immediate availability for specific apartments, while others face long waits. The consensus in the reviews is that Clairmont Oaks delivers excellent value for people prioritizing community, staff support, safety, and programming over large private living spaces. Many reviewers explicitly highly recommend the community, describing it as "the best place to live," well run, and ideal for retirees who want social engagement and attentive staff.

Bottom line: Clairmont Oaks is strongly praised for its staff, community atmosphere, cleanliness, and robust activity programming, making it an attractive option for seniors seeking social engagement and supportive, responsive staff at an affordable price point. Prospective residents should be aware of trade-offs: smaller apartment sizes and kitchens, limited in-unit laundry, occasional operational issues (elevators, management accessibility, cable/TV problems), and that certain services or activities may be constrained during virus outbreaks or renovation periods. For those who prioritize community life, safety features, convenient floor laundry, and an active events calendar, reviewers overwhelmingly view Clairmont Oaks as a very positive choice.
