    Kind staff and great food

I love Lakeside. The staff are kind, honest and go out of their way to make residents feel important - my health and spirits improved after moving here. The food is wonderful, care is strong, and they welcomed my small dog. There can be occasional odor issues and confusing name changes, but overall I had great people, great food and great memories.

    Summary review

The reviews for Lakeside Assisted Living present a highly polarized set of perspectives, with a clear split between strong praise and very serious criticisms. On the positive side, multiple reviewers emphasize that staff members can be caring, attentive, and willing to go out of their way to make residents feel important. Several first-hand accounts mention improved resident health and spirits after moving to Lakeside, as well as warm reception to family and guests. Dining receives repeated praise — phrases like "great food" and "wonderful food" appear in several summaries — and some residents describe their time there in positive terms, citing great people, great memories, and excellent care. The community being pet-friendly (small dogs allowed) is specifically noted as another positive feature that contributes to family satisfaction.

However, the negative feedback is both specific and severe in places. A number of reviews allege over-medication or that residents are being "doped," which is a serious clinical and ethical concern. There are repeated mentions of unprofessional staff behavior in some reports, sometimes paired with claims that the facility is run-down: descriptors include "old," "broken down," "trashed," and "trashy institution." Several reviewers describe significant odor or smell problems and an overall depressing, institutional atmosphere—one reviewer even uses the phrase "insane asylum vibe." Those comments suggest problems with physical upkeep, cleanliness, and environment in parts of the facility.

A notable pattern across the reviews is the mention of repeated name changes and rebranding. Multiple summaries suggest the facility has switched names and been rebranded—some reviewers interpret this as an attempt to avoid complaints or mask a poor reputation. This contributes to an impression of unstable or evasive management practices and increases uncertainty for families trying to evaluate the community. The combination of rebranding claims, reports of poor management or a lack of values, and highly divergent first-hand accounts produces an inconsistent overall reputation.

Taken together, the reviews indicate a facility with meaningful strengths in caregiving and dining that are recognized by several residents and families, but also serious, recurring concerns that some visitors and relatives consider disqualifying. The most frequently cited advantages are attentive staff, positive health or emotional responses by some residents, friendliness to visitors, good meals, and pet-friendliness. The most frequently cited concerns are over-medication allegations, inconsistent staff professionalism, physical disrepair and unpleasant odors, and management practices related to name changes that raise trust issues.

For someone evaluating Lakeside Assisted Living, these patterns suggest the need for targeted due diligence. Prospective families should prioritize in-person visits during different shifts, ask for recent inspection reports and medication-management policies, request references from current families, and inspect the physical environment for cleanliness and odors. They should also ask management to explain any past name changes and obtain documentation about staffing continuity and staff training. The reviews show that experiences can differ sharply from one resident to another, so verifying current conditions directly and asking specific, documented questions will be important to determine whether the positive reports or the negative allegations are more representative of the present reality.

    About Lakeside Assisted Living

Lakeside Assisted Living sits near the Pend Oreille River in Sandpoint, ID, and has been called Lakeview Assisted Living and Sandpoint Assisted Living in the past, so over the years it's changed names, but the focus on care has stayed the same, and now it serves as part of the long-term care system, with oversight from groups like the Department of Aging or Veteran's Services, and carries a state license for operation, holding 60 licensed beds in the building. Families often find some peace of mind with Lakeside since the staff are known for treating everyone with kindness, a sense of purpose, and they always strive to make residents feel valued, which seems to make a difference, especially for folks coming from places where they didn't get enough care or maybe were given too much medication. The place provides assisted living, memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia, mental health care, non-ambulatory care for those who need mobility help, companion care, and nursing home services, and what's nice is that individualized care plans look after each person's unique needs while making sure there's constant health monitoring through nursing staff on site day and night, every day of the week, including Sundays. They accommodate both private and semi-private rooms, all with either full or half baths, and offer single and double occupancy, which helps people find a living arrangement that suits them best, and folks can even bring their cats and dogs, so there's a pet-friendly policy that's comforting for animal lovers. The community has a secure memory unit in a small environment for those in later stages of dementia and Alzheimer's, as well as residential care aimed at all ages, which isn't always the case in assisted living homes.

Amenities help make daily life more manageable, including nutritious meals and snacks, diabetic and incontinence care, medication management, and personal care with bathing, dressing, and grooming, and residents have access to technology like senior cell phones, hearing aids, and internet plans made for older adults. There are safety features in place too, like home security, medication dispensers, walk-in tubs to prevent falls, ADT Medical Alert, Medical Guardian, Bay Alarm Medical, and ID theft protection, along with emergency call systems and staff always available around the clock. Social options range from fitness programs and indoor common areas to a much-loved yearly resident garden, plus planned events such as barbecue parties, pool tournaments, karaoke, devotional activities, and seasonal outings to local parks, shopping, and movie theaters. Seniors have a choice of independent living, apartments, condos, or townhomes within the senior housing options. Regular housekeeping, laundry, and transportation services to medical appointments or social events help residents stay comfortable and active in the community. Memory care services are customized, with quiet rooms and secured spaces so those with cognitive disabilities can feel safe, and staff take a gentle approach, focusing on each person's health and happiness. Lakeside Assisted Living partners with A Place For Mom for families seeking free advice and has earned awards for their level of care and commitment to their motto, "The Care You Need, The Compassion You Deserve." The community accepts Medicaid at several locations though Medicare is accepted only if CMS certified. Lakeside Assisted Living aims to provide a steady environment where residents' health and spirits can improve over time, and staff members go out of their way to make sure each person gets the attention and respect they deserve.
