    Great care overall, minor concerns

I stayed for rehab and was very pleased overall - the staff treated me like family, therapy (PT/OT/SLP) was excellent, rooms are clean and roomy, meals are good, and activities kept me engaged. Nursing, CNAs and administration were attentive, communicative, and helped me regain independence. My only caveats: I noticed reports of occasional rude or unprofessional behavior and some staffing/safety lapses, so stay involved. Despite that, I would recommend this facility for short- or long-term care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center are predominantly positive with a large number of reviewers praising the facility’s clinical and day-to-day care. Most reviewers emphasize strong, compassionate nursing and CNA care, excellent therapy services (physical, occupational and speech therapy), good communication with families, and a supportive, family-like culture. Many families reported positive rehab outcomes, timely progress toward discharge goals, and satisfaction with both short-term rehabilitative stays and longer-term placements. Numerous staff members and departments are singled out by name for praise, which supports a pattern of staff members who make a meaningful, positive impression on residents and families.

Care quality and therapy: A recurring and dominant theme is the high quality of therapy and rehabilitation. Reviewers specifically name therapists and therapy staff (physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) as “fantastic,” “supportive,” and instrumental in residents meeting goals. Several reviews describe rapid or timely independence gains, effective therapy plans, and therapists who push residents appropriately toward recovery. Nursing care is likewise often described as attentive, kind, and patient; call-lights are reported to be answered promptly in many accounts. Multiple families explicitly recommend the facility for both short-term rehab and long-term skilled nursing needs, citing clinical competence and good care coordination.

Staff, communication, and management: Many reviews highlight strong communication lines between staff and families, with frequent updates, milestone reminders, and prompt responses from administration. Several reviewers single out administrative and management staff as caring and accessible; specific employees are named as go-to contacts who provided reassurance to families. The tone in most reports is that staff treat residents like family, are respectful, and demonstrate compassion. Events such as holiday dinners, activities, and social gatherings are frequently mentioned as evidence of a positive resident culture and an engaged activities program.

Facilities, dining, and activities: The facility’s physical environment is commonly described as clean, newly renovated, and comfortable, with roomy rooms and amenities like lift chairs and in-room meals. Dining and food are often praised — reviewers mention delicious meals, family-style dining, and special holiday meals. The activities program receives consistent praise for keeping residents engaged through a range of offerings (bingo, seasonal parties, classes), contributing to residents’ social satisfaction and quality of life.

Notable concerns and variability: Despite the many positive reports, a subset of reviews raise serious and concerning allegations that cannot be overlooked. Several reviews claim instances of abusive behavior (emotional and in some accounts physical) by named staff members, allegations of staff drug use, and reports of staff theft. Other concerns include understaffing at certain times, episodes of poor cleanliness (including urine odor), and instances where residents were allegedly left unattended and subsequently fell in bathrooms or showers. There are also reports of an unwelcoming interaction with at least one nurse who denied visitor entry and used disparaging language. These negative reports are fewer in number compared with the positive feedback but are severe in nature and indicate variability in resident experiences and staff behavior across shifts or personnel.

Patterns and interpretation: The dominant pattern is one of overall strong clinical and rehabilitative care coupled with a warm, family-like environment and good communication — factors that lead many families to highly recommend Metropolis for rehab or long-term care. However, the presence of isolated but very serious allegations (abuse, theft, substance use) combined with sporadic reports of understaffing and hygiene lapses suggests there is inconsistency in the resident experience. Positive reviews often reference specific staff members and management who are attentive and responsive, while negative reports identify particular employees or incidents. This points to the possibility that care quality may depend significantly on staffing consistency, supervision, and incident oversight.

Bottom line: Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center receives strong praise across many dimensions — therapy quality, compassionate nursing/CNA care, activities, food, renovated facilities, and family communication. At the same time, potential residents and families should be aware of the concerning but less frequent reports alleging abuse, theft, drug use, neglected falls, and cleanliness problems. Those considering the facility would be best served by asking targeted questions during a tour or intake (staffing ratios, incident reporting and investigation processes, background checks, cleaning protocols, and recent inspection results) and by seeking references from recent families. The volume of positive feedback suggests many families have excellent experiences, but the severe nature of some negative claims warrants careful inquiry and monitoring if choosing this facility.

The facility offers a wide range of care, like Long-Term Care, On-Site Dialysis, Rapid Recovery & Rehabilitation, and has a focus on different needs, such as memory care and dementia management. The therapy gym comes well-equipped with machines and exercise gear for people of all physical abilities, and there are skilled teams that provide occupational, speech, and physical therapy, plus wound care. With about 78 residents per day on average and 2299 certified beds, Metropolis Rehabilitation & Health Care Center stays busy. There's a focus on safety and quality of life, but there have been 16 deficiencies found in inspections, including concerns about resident rights, clean and homelike surroundings, and making sure areas are free from hazards. The Center supports family caregiving and provides help with long-term care insurance. Reviews show a high average rating of 4.5 out of 12 reviews, and people often mention the support and kindness of the staff. There's no sense in glossing over the challenges, but the facility works to provide levels of care, lifestyle choices, and recovery help in a structured way, with professional referrals as needed, and keeps its features, amenities, and services organized for residents' comfort.
