    Attentive staff and beautiful grounds

I toured and/or stayed here and I'm impressed by how attentive and caring the staff are - very responsive, accommodating, and they coordinate well with the attached Cedars nursing home for different levels of care. The grounds are beautiful and well kept (wooded setting, great daylight from well-designed windows), activities are plentiful, and cleanliness/maintenance are above average. Food was inconsistent (sometimes very good, sometimes needs improvement, meals can be sent to rooms), it's often full, and it's quite pricey.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Osher Inn At the Cedars is positive, with recurring praise for staff, cleanliness, maintenance, and the facility’s environment. Reviewers consistently highlight supportive, responsive, and even exceptional staff who communicate well with families and provide attentive care. The facility appears to be well cared for and maintained, with above-average cleanliness and upkeep of grounds. Many reviewers note pleasant, wooded surroundings and good daylight exposure from well-designed windows, contributing to a bright and attractive living environment.

Care quality and staff: The strongest and most consistent theme is the quality of staff and care. Reviews use terms such as caring, responsive, attentive, supportive, accommodating, and even over-the-top to describe staff behavior. Families report effective communication and that staff are helpful with family needs, which suggests good interpersonal care and coordination. Multiple notes about coordination between the Osher Inn and the adjacent Cedars nursing home indicate a seamless transition/pathway for residents who require different levels of care; reviewers specifically mention coordinated care between facilities and availability of different care levels.

Facilities and environment: Physical aspects of the property receive favorable comments. Cleanliness is repeatedly noted as better than average, and maintenance is highlighted positively. The location is described as having nice, wooded grounds and being well kept. Architectural details that enhance resident comfort, such as well-designed windows and good sun/daylight exposure, are singled out. A few reviewers mentioned that the facility could be warmer, indicating occasional temperature or HVAC comfort concerns, but that comment appears less frequent than the positive remarks about cleanliness and upkeep.

Dining and meals: Feedback on dining is mixed. Several reviewers say the food is good or very good and that dining areas look fine. Some appreciated that meals can be sent to residents’ rooms. However, at least one review suggests the food could be improved, and another flags food as an area needing attention. Overall, while the majority impression leans positive about meals, there is enough variation in comments to suggest inconsistent experiences or differing expectations among residents and families.

Activities and engagement: Activity offerings receive positive mentions, described both as varying daily activities and lots of activities. Reviewers indicate a range of engagement options are available, which contributes to resident wellbeing and family confidence in daily programming.

Access, cost, and availability: Two consistent concerns across reviews are cost and availability. Multiple reviewers describe the community as expensive or pricey, and there are comments that the facility can be full, implying limited immediate availability or waitlists. Location is another practical consideration: some reviewers note the facility sits on the far side of Portland, which may be inconvenient for families who live elsewhere. These logistical and financial factors appear to be the primary negatives when compared with otherwise favorable assessments of care and environment.

Patterns and notable points: The overall pattern is a high level of satisfaction with people (staff), place (clean, well-maintained, pleasant grounds, good daylight), and care coordination (connection to Cedars nursing home and multiple levels of care). The main areas to watch are cost/value perception, occasional issues around food quality and temperature comfort, and availability constraints. In summary, Osher Inn At the Cedars is portrayed as a well-run, well-kept community with strong, communicative staff and good amenities, but prospective residents and families should be prepared for higher pricing, potential limited openings, and to confirm dining and room-temperature arrangements to ensure they meet personal preferences.
