    Upscale vibrant community with amenities

I've been a proud resident here for nine years and I love the beautiful, immaculate grounds and the roomy two-bedroom apartments - great location near Route 128 and family. The place feels upscale and vibrant (a cruise-ship/4-star hotel vibe) with excellent dining, jazz nights, patio dining, cafe, pool, gym, library, barbershop, many activities and day trips, and on-site medical care. Staff are professional, warm and proactive; I've made meaningful friendships and appreciate the strong sense of community and individualized attention. I'm proud of the sustainability push (the Ozzi reusable container program cut paper/plastic waste and was an Earth Day finalist) and I'm glad management collaborates with residents. Downsides: it's expensive, there's a long waitlist, garage/parking is pricey, one-bedrooms feel tight, food quality can vary, and there's no memory-care program (placement/24-hour care policy can be frustrating). Despite the cost and a few policy gaps, I happily recommend it - a wonderful, secure place with so much to offer.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Fox Hill Village are strongly positive on livability, community, staffing, and amenities, with recurring praise for the active social life and clean, attractive environment. The facility is repeatedly described as well-maintained, welcoming, and offering a high quality of life that many residents call a proud and happy decision. At the same time, several consistent concerns appear around cost, parking fees, and gaps or ambiguities in care transitions—particularly for memory care and 24-hour skilled nursing needs. Prospective residents and families will find many strengths but should investigate specific policies and financial implications before committing.

Care quality and medical services: Multiple reviews emphasize the advantage of multi-level care under one roof and onsite medical resources — an on-site wellness clinic, visits from a medical doctor and a nurse practitioner, and routine nursing care are noted as important supports. Staff are generally described as professional, kind, and proactive; there are reports of staff going out of their way to help, individualized attention, and timely communication (including calls about issues). However, a notable recurring concern is the absence of a dedicated memory care program and frustration about how residents are moved into or between skilled nursing levels. Several reviewers reported unclear policies or difficulty securing skilled nursing placement and expressed frustration with perceived casual attitudes from social work or assisted living staff about 24-hour care needs. These issues suggest the facility handles routine and preventive care well, but families with progressing dementia or likely need for continuous care should get clear, written explanations of transition policies and costs.

Staff and management: The majority of comments about staff are highly favorable — many described staff as friendly, professional, caring, and responsive. An engaged social worker and proactive communication were singled out positively. Management is often portrayed as responsive and willing to negotiate payment terms, and sales staff are described as helpful during move-in. Conversely, a minority of reviews describe inconsistent staff attitudes in some units (assisted living or aides) and a few residents reported staff with 'unreasonable expectations' or a more serious / less welcoming tone. This pattern points to generally strong staffing with occasional variance in individual caregiver approach or expectations. It also highlights the importance of meeting and assessing direct care teams during tours.

Facilities, apartments, and amenities: Reviews consistently praise the community’s attractive common areas, grounds, and an ambience likened to a four-star hotel or cruise-ship environment. There are many reported amenities: fitness center, library, barbershop, multiple dining venues, and frequent social spaces. Some reviewers explicitly list a pool and gym; others note there is no swimming pool or limited space in certain apartment types, indicating some variability in available amenities or floorplans across the campus. Apartment descriptions emphasize roomy two-bedroom units with living rooms and kitchens, and residents appreciated the ability to customize closets and bathrooms with facility oversight. A few reviewers noted that while the building is attractive and well-maintained, there are mixed descriptions regarding the building’s age (some call it newer/upscale, others call it older but well-kept). Parking is readily available but several reviews call out parking/garage fees as high, which adds to ongoing costs.

Dining and social programming: Social life and programming are among the strongest, most consistent positives. Residents frequently mention a vibrant schedule of cultural events, entertainment (for example, a jazz group during dinner), gardening, art, woodworking, day trips, and frequent group meals — all contributing to strong community bonds and opportunities to form meaningful friendships. Dining receives mostly positive feedback; many praise top-quality meals, delicious desserts, and a pleasant dining room with good acoustics and patio dining. That said, there are some mixed reports about food quality, so experiences may vary by meal, time, or personal taste. The presence of a café, take-out dinner options, and reasonable guest room charges were seen as useful conveniences.

Costs, demand, and financial considerations: Cost is a common theme and a real downside for some reviewers. Many describe Fox Hill Village as an upscale, luxury community with correspondingly high monthly fees and additional charges (notably parking/garage fees). Some residents reported price appreciation on resale as a downside, and the financial burden of providing or arranging 24-hour care was a specific concern. On the positive side, administration is described as willing to negotiate payments in some cases, and guest room charges are reported as reasonable. There is also evidence of demand: a waitlist of approximately one year was mentioned, and several long-term residents (nine years) report satisfaction, indicating stable occupancy and retention.

Notable initiatives and culture: Reviewers highlight resident-management collaboration in sustainability efforts, including an Ozzi reusable container program that reduced waste and saved money, demonstrating active resident engagement and forward-looking programming. The overall cultural impression is one of a warm, engaged community: residents describe making new friends, reconnecting with acquaintances, and appreciating the comfort of not being a burden to family.

Patterns and recommendations: The dominant pattern is high resident satisfaction driven by social programming, quality amenities, professional staff, and a well-maintained campus. The most important caveats are cost, parking fees, and potential gaps or lack of clarity in policies around memory care and transitions to 24-hour skilled nursing. For prospective residents and families, recommended questions to ask when touring or considering contract terms: written policies on transitions to higher levels of care (including memory care and skilled nursing), detailed pricing and potential future cost increases (including parking), availability and specifics of amenity access (pool, gym, apartment floorplans), average wait times, and examples of how the community handles residents with escalating care needs. Overall, Fox Hill Village appears to be a high-quality, socially rich community that best serves those who value active community life and on-site medical support, provided they confirm the facility’s approach to advanced care needs and understand the financial commitments involved.

    About Fox Hill Village

Fox Hill Village is an independent senior living community in Westwood, Massachusetts, with a cooperative ownership model so residents can buy a share, approve annual budgets, and vote for the board, which mostly includes residents, so folks have a real say in how things run, and the ownership can allow for some asset appreciation, which means people might get some money back if they move out, and the monthly costs tend to be lower since they don't add markups or outside management fees, so there's a sense of value in comparison to other places, plus there are tax advantages tied to mortgage interest and property taxes. The building is mid-rise and has 340 apartments that circle a village commons meant to feel like a main street, where there's a bank, library, hair salon, variety store, greenhouse, hobby rooms, card rooms, and a 200-seat auditorium for events, movies, or performances, so there's always something going on nearby and neighbors around. Apartment sizes go from 584 to 1,604 square feet, with one-bedroom and two-bedroom options, and the accommodations are maintenance-free, so residents don't have to worry about fixing things themselves. There's a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indoor pool, and even a golf simulator, plus access or views of a golf course. Outdoor spaces include patios and gardens, and there are dedicated areas for art and woodworking, with programs for education and daily activities, and a library for people who enjoy reading, and dining venues for meals or social time, along with outdoor dining in nice weather. Residents can have some pets, with certain pet-friendly policies in place.

Fox Hill Village accepts adults aged 55 and older and welcomes both independent and assisted living, with services that include memory care and nursing support. On-site health services are available, including outpatient therapy and programs through Massachusetts General Hospital, and there's a separate unit for Alzheimer's patients, clinical services, wound care, and therapies for speech, physical, and occupational needs, so residents have many healthcare options. Care management and home care are offered, and technology like electronic visit verification and tele-health services helps keep care organized. Residents can get help with daily living from caregivers if needed, and family engagement is encouraged. Programs like My Adult Foster Care, My Adult Home Care, My Senior Care Hub, and My Adult Behavior give further support to those with different care requirements, and there are food programs, including CACFP.

Residents have the freedom to control many parts of their lives within a setting that tries to stay private, safe, and less costly. There's transportation assistance, activity programs, community groups like REN networking, committees, and a range of community events tied in with the Neponset River Regional Chamber. Fox Hill Village has membership benefits, such as discount coupons for Staples, and virtual member decals, which make it easier to keep up with the program and access services through their website. The community is family and nonprofit-focused, with involvement in local business resources and elder care alliances, so there's plenty of connection to the area and a good sense of belonging for people wanting to be part of a bigger neighborhood. Founded in 1990 with Massachusetts General Hospital, Fox Hill Village has a long history and continues to offer a wide range of services and activities for older adults, with hours from Monday to Saturday, closing on Sundays, and a point of contact named Sarah Pompeo to help with questions for those interested in learning how the community works.
