Sunrise of Dix Hills sits at 337 Deer Park Ave in Huntington Station, NY, in ZIP code 11746, and you'll notice the Victorian-style estate right away with its beautiful living spaces, a three-story building, and an exterior sign showing the facility's name alongside indoor and outdoor common areas where folks can relax or socialize while the enclosed garden lets everyone safely enjoy the outdoors whenever they feel like it. This is a Continuing Care Retirement Community, so there are many levels of support, and you'll find independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, short-term stays, and hospice care available, along with Dignity Home Care services for those who want to stay safe at home. Room options suit different needs, with studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments to pick from, and they're all part of a setting that encourages independence while making sure residents get support when they need help with things like bathing, dressing, or medication, and there are safety features and wheelchair accessible showers to make life easier for folks with mobility challenges. Sunrise of Dix Hills is pet-friendly, which means dogs and cats are welcome, and residents can take part in daily activities and programs, whether it's painting classes, bocce ball, or intergenerational cooking sessions, all part of a full social and activities calendar that aims to keep everyone's mind, body, and spirit active. There's a Bistro for dining and conversation, plus an interior dining room that feels comfortable for meals among friends, and every day there are homemade meals along with restaurant-style dining that tries to please everyone's tastes. Care is provided by a 24-hour nursing team, and visiting doctors, specialists, physical and occupational therapists, as well as portable radiology and lab services, make it easier to take care of your health without leaving the property. Memory care programs like Reminiscence and Terrace Club support seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia, and there are onsite and offsite devotional services, plus beautician services for grooming needs. Housekeeping comes included, as do resident parking and transportation available at a fee, and the community puts a focus on keeping family connected with a family engagement app that shares updates, photos, and community news, so loved ones always know what's going on. Aging in place is easier here because the facility lets residents adjust the care and support they get over time instead of having to move somewhere else, and respite care is an option when caregivers or families need a break or someone needs extra help during recovery from surgery or illness. Sunrise of Dix Hills is designed for older adults who want choices in care, activities to join, safety features, and friendly faces, whether living independently or needing more support, and while the amenities and features cover most needs, residents can bring their pets, enjoy a calendar full of events and programs, and live in a setting that balances independence with safety and support.
Caring staff, clean facility, pricey
I placed my parent here and overall I'm impressed - the staff are genuinely caring and attentive, the facility is clean, bright and home-like, and activities, therapy and amenities are strong. Communication is excellent and the team often goes above and beyond, which gave our family real peace of mind. That said, it's expensive with extra a-la-carte charges, dining can be hit-or-miss (memory care meals especially), and there have been occasional issues with medical follow-up, understaffing and past COVID problems. I recommend it with reservations: great staff and setting, but expect higher costs and variable care in some areas.

About Sunrise Senior Living
Sunrise of Dix Hills is managed by Sunrise Senior Living.
Sunrise Senior Living is one of the largest senior care operators in North America, managing over 270 communities across the United States and Canada with approximately 22,000 employees. Founded in 1981 by Paul and Terry Klaassen in Oakton, Virginia, Sunrise pioneered the Victorian mansion-style senior living community design, inspired by Dutch senior care models and European hospitality concepts. Headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Sunrise offers a comprehensive continuum of care including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and hospice coordination.
The company's signature memory care programs include Terrace Club Neighborhoods for residents with early to moderate memory loss, and Reminiscence Neighborhoods for those with advanced Alzheimer's and dementia. As an Authorized Validation Organization, Sunrise practices the Validation Method—which they call "exquisite listening"—using empathy-based communication techniques to reduce anxiety and improve quality of life for memory care residents. Their Live With Purpose™ programming engages residents through personalized activities aligned with their interests and life experiences.
Sunrise leverages advanced technology including Sunrise CareConnect, an electronic health record system built on PointClickCare technology that enables real-time documentation, comprehensive health tracking, and remote access for healthcare providers. The Road Home Program offers specialized 30-day transitional care for seniors discharged from hospitals or rehabilitation centers, providing medication management and 24/7 support.
The company has achieved notable sustainability certifications, with facilities earning WELL Health-Safety Rating, WELL Equity Rating, ENERGY STAR® certifications, and LEED Silver designation. Sunrise communities feature Individualized Service Plans, Designated Care Managers, and welcome pets, with many locations maintaining community cats or dogs. After celebrating 40 years in 2021, Sunrise continues its mission to champion quality of life for all seniors through their resident-centered, holistic approach to senior care.
