    Filthy facility reeked of smoke

I moved my loved one here briefly and was horrified: a huge facility near the A-train reeked of cigarette smoke-hallways, her room, staff clothes and even my car smelled; cigarette butts were everywhere. Filthy hallways, staff handling food with dirty gloves, resident aggression, theft and blatant poor oversight made it feel unsafe - I feared for her life. A few staff were kind, but overall this is a horrible place to work or to leave a loved one; it should be shut down.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but heavily weighted toward serious negative concerns. While a few reviewers describe the facility as clean and praise certain staff members (including a helpful case manager and some friendly, kind staff), multiple other reviewers provide detailed and consistent complaints about pervasive smoking, hygiene problems, safety and management failures. The negative accounts are vivid and cover multiple domains of resident life and facility operations, suggesting systemic issues rather than isolated incidents, according to those reviewers.

Care quality and resident safety are key points of contention. Several reviews allege abuse, report an unsafe environment, and describe a lack of structure and oversight. Reviewers mention resident aggression and theft among residents, creating concerns about supervision and protection of vulnerable people. Some reviews go as far as claiming a risk of serious harm or death and include calls for the facility to be shut down. Because these claims are reported by reviewers rather than independently verified here, they should be treated as allegations that warrant prompt investigation by appropriate authorities or regulators.

Staff-related feedback is mixed. Positive comments single out a helpful case manager and several friendly, kind staff members, indicating that some employees may provide compassionate, competent interactions. Conversely, other reviews characterize the facility as a "horrible place to work," and criticize staff practices directly tied to resident care—most notably food handling. Specific allegations include staff handling food with dirty gloves and poor dining hygiene. These observations point to potentially problematic training, staffing levels, or management enforcement of basic infection-control and food-safety practices.

Facility condition and cleanliness are also subjects of conflicting reports. Some reviewers describe Seaview Manor as clean, while multiple others describe filthy hallways, cigarette butts on floors, and cigarette butts found inside a resident's room. A pervasive cigarette smoke stench is repeatedly emphasized, with additional reports that residents' clothing and visitors' cars smell of smoke. The presence of indoor smoking and visible cigarette waste in communal and private spaces — according to these reviews — raises both comfort and health concerns for residents, visitors, and staff, as well as questions about enforcement of smoking policies.

Dining, activities, and amenities receive little positive detail beyond a few generic positive statements about staff. The most specific negative dining feedback concerns unhygienic food handling and the impression of poor dining hygiene. There is little detailed commentary about organized activities, amenities, or the quality and variety of meals in the submitted summaries, making it difficult to assess those areas beyond dining-related hygiene concerns.

Management and oversight emerge as an underlying theme connecting many complaints. Reports of theft, resident aggression, lack of structure, and alleged abuse suggest deficiencies in supervision, staff training, incident reporting, or enforcement of policy. The coexistence of very negative reviews and some positive ones (clean facility, helpful staff) could indicate inconsistent standards of care across shifts, wings, or staff members, or it could reflect differing expectations among reviewers. Importantly, some extremely negative reviews are noted to be insulting and lacking specific details about staff, meals, activities, or concrete incidents; this variability in review quality means investigations should prioritize corroborated, specific claims while still treating serious allegations with appropriate urgency.

In summary, the reviews present a facility with polarized impressions: a minority of reviewers praise cleanliness and individual staff, while multiple other reviewers describe pervasive smoking, significant hygiene issues, safety and supervision failures, and allegations of abuse and theft. These patterns suggest areas for immediate attention if the facility wishes to address concerns: enforce no-smoking rules and clean indoor environments, improve food-handling and dining hygiene, strengthen supervision and incident reporting, and investigate any allegations of abuse or theft. Because of the severity of several reported issues, prospective residents, families, and regulators should seek up-to-date, verifiable information (inspection reports, staffing levels, incident logs, and direct conversations with management) before making placement or oversight decisions.
