    Beautiful facility, caring staff, concerns

I placed my mom here and overall I'm pleased: the facility is beautiful and extremely clean, with spacious rooms, lovely gardens and chapel, delicious nourishing meals, and outstanding, professional and loving staff who improved her appetite and gave family-like care. Activities are active and engaging - daily mass, music, movies, bingo, field trips - and outdoor visiting feels safe. My main concern is recent staffing changes and an apparent unpleasant, underappreciated work environment among some long-tenured employees, which left me disappointed in this religious home.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Queen of Peace Residence is strongly positive. Reviewers consistently emphasize the facility’s cleanliness, the spaciousness and attractiveness of resident rooms, and the pleasant, welcoming atmosphere. Grounds and indoor amenities such as the gardens, chapel, sewing room, gift shop, and available parking are repeatedly described as beautiful and well-maintained. Multiple comments characterize the residence as a ‘‘lovely,’’ ‘‘beautiful,’’ or ‘‘best’’ place, underlining a high level of satisfaction with the physical environment.

Care quality and staff behavior are prominent strengths in the reviews. Many reviewers describe staff as gracious, loving, and family-like in their approach; specific outcomes such as improved appetite and weight for a resident are cited as evidence of attentive, effective care. Health care is praised as outstanding, and the presence of helpful, professional staff and numerous volunteers reinforces a perception of strong resident support. Long-tenured employees and a dedicated activities director are noted, suggesting continuity in programming and relationships for residents.

Dining and nutrition receive frequent positive mention: meals are described as nourishing, attractive, and delicious. Reviewers highlight that dining contributes to residents’ well-being and enjoyment. The facility’s commitment to communal and spiritual life also stands out. Daily Mass, religious programming, social gatherings, music, movies, dance, bingo, and frequent activities and field trips create an active, engaging calendar. Well-planned annual events and a variety of recreational options indicate an emphasis on social stimulation and quality of life.

While praise is dominant, there are consistent concerns centered on staffing and workplace morale that warrant attention. Several reviews reference staffing changes or turnover and explicitly report an unpleasant work environment and a perceived lack of appreciation among employees. These comments are comparatively fewer than the positive ones but are specific and potentially significant because staff morale and stability directly affect continuity of care and program delivery. A couple of reviewers also express disappointment with aspects of the religious facility or how religious services are managed, which may reflect mismatched expectations for spiritual programming among some families or residents.

In sum, Queen of Peace Residence is portrayed as a clean, attractive, and well-run residence with strong programming, excellent meals, and a compassionate caregiving culture that yields measurable resident benefits. The dominant themes are high-quality care, engaging activities, and a warm, community-oriented environment. The main areas to monitor are staffing stability and employee morale, and ensuring that religious programming aligns with resident and family expectations. Addressing those concerns could further strengthen the largely favorable experience described by reviewers.

    About Queen of Peace Residence

Queen of Peace Residence sits at 110-30 221st Street in Queens Village, New York, and you'll find it in a quiet spot near parks and shops, which makes going out with family or friends a bit easier, and it's one of only two nursing homes in the area, where the Little Sisters of the Poor have made a home for the elderly for many years, running a 53-bed skilled nursing facility as part of a larger mission inspired by Jeanne Jugan and the Roman Catholic Church. This place has both skilled nursing care and options for those who need assisted living, independent living, or retirement care, plus some extra safety like secured grounds, and things like outdoor patios, gardens, and even a spot for spa treatments if a resident fancies it, and on top of that, residents can count on 24-hour care and plenty of staff around all year. Residents here get licensed medical care every day, and can get specialized help like physical therapy, occupational therapy, dentistry, optometry, and recreational therapy, and if someone needs inpatient rehab, they offer that too, all while taking Medicare and Medicaid, which can really help with the bills, and while Queen of Peace is a nonprofit, you can expect familiar senior living features like on-site parking, English and Spanish language support, and the chance for guests to join at meal times. The place accepts advice and planning services, has floor plans and payment info ready, and is located close to local hospitals such as Mary Immaculate Hospital and Queens Hospital Center which is good for emergency peace of mind, and even though there's no resident council, there's always a chance to join their volunteer programs or youth service efforts, so it's still an active group of people, and there's a strong sense of community that's kept going by the Little Sisters, who really do live at the home and share their daily lives with everyone who stays there. The focus at Queen of Peace Residence is on making sure the elderly feel supported and loved, with spiritual care coming straight from the teachings of Jeanne Jugan, so faith and care go hand in hand here, and if you check the records, you'll see they've earned an A+ grade for quality and inspections, and they're even in the top five percent of nursing homes nationally, which points toward a steady, safe place to live, where skilled nursing, comfort, and community come first.
