    Friendly staff, good food, issues

I'm very happy with Preston Pointe - the staff are genuinely friendly and caring, the food is excellent, activities are plentiful, and the grounds and apartments are lovely and easy to navigate. That said, new management, staff turnover/shortages (especially wait staff), some maintenance issues, and no backup generator have been frustrating. Our move-in was chaotic - triple-booked, high-pressure sales, misrepresented availability, elevators unavailable and little move-in help or first-week social support - better communication and a welcoming committee would fix a lot. Despite those flaws the team is capable and engaged, my mother loves it, and I'd recommend it with those caveats.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews for Preston Pointe are overwhelmingly positive, with a strong majority of residents and family members praising the staff, food, cleanliness, amenities, and community life. The dominant themes are compassionate and attentive caregiving, an excellent dining program led by a notable chef, an active social calendar, and well-maintained and often newly renovated living spaces. Many reviewers describe a warm, home-like atmosphere and emphasize that residents feel safe, engaged and well looked after.

Staff and care quality: Reviews repeatedly highlight the staff as Preston Pointe’s greatest strength. Words and phrases used most often include friendly, caring, attentive, knowledgeable, and genuine. Several accounts note long-tenured employees who know residents by name, creating continuity and familiarity. Multiple reviewers cite specific positives such as on-site nursing, prompt responsiveness to needs, coordination with external doctors and therapy services, and staff willingness to involve families. At the same time, a number of reviews mention recent management changes and some staff turnover; while many reviewers still report high satisfaction, this change has introduced occasional variability and is something prospective residents should ask about.

Dining and culinary experience: Dining is consistently described as a standout feature. Numerous reviewers praise the quality, variety and creativity of meals, calling the chef gifted and likening dining to a luxury or restaurant-style experience. Continuous or all-day dining, flexible meal times, generous portions and a broad menu are repeatedly noted. A few reviewers with particular personal preferences report occasional food concerns, but these are exceptions amid many compliments. Catering to different tastes and dietary needs appears generally well-managed, and dining is a key factor in the community’s high marks.

Activities, social life and amenities: Preston Pointe offers a wide range of activities — exercise classes (tai chi, chair yoga), painting, games, movie nights, live music, outings (grocery runs, symphony), special events (Octoberfest), and planned trips — and reviewers consistently praise an engaged activities director. Amenities include a library, billiards, movie theater, gym, salon, and planned pool; spaces are described as bright, airy and well-used. The result is an active community with many opportunities for socialization and enrichment, and many residents report quickly making friends and feeling a strong sense of belonging.

Facilities, apartments and grounds: The facility is often described as clean, inviting, and in many areas newly renovated, with generous apartment floor plans (in-unit washers/dryers, full kitchens in some units), sunny studios and beautiful landscaping. Reviewers frequently mention attractive common areas, peaceful outdoor spaces, and a resort-like vibe. However, some units or parts of the building have issues cited by multiple reviewers: occasional maintenance defects (holes in ceilings/walls, mantle issues), long hallways, lower kitchen cupboards in certain units, and some stained or dated carpeting in places. Renovations are in progress in several areas, which many reviewers view positively overall even if it causes temporary disruption.

Management, move-in experience and operations: While many reviewers praise openness of staff and willingness to answer questions, there are recurring operational concerns. Several reviewers describe high-pressure sales tactics during tours and instances of misrepresented apartment availability. Move-in logistics have been a notable pain point for some: triple-booked move-in dates, lack of move-in assistance, elevator unavailability during moves, and inadequate communication during those processes. A few reviewers also noted the absence of a backup generator as a practical concern. Despite these issues, many reviewers were willing to give the benefit of the doubt to new management and reported that problems were often addressed when raised.

Value, pricing and suitability: Preston Pointe receives favorable marks for value. Reviewers point out an affordable pricing approach without astronomical buy-ins and describe the community as offering solid value for the level of food, services and amenities provided. Many families appreciated the non-corporate or family-run feel. That said, some reviewers caution that Preston Pointe is primarily independent living and may not be suitable for those who require continuing or intensive assisted care.

Patterns and recommendations: The recurring strengths are clear: outstanding staff in many roles, high-quality dining, robust activities, a warm community atmosphere, and generally clean and well-maintained facilities. The recurring concerns cluster around management transition effects (sales pressure and staff turnover), the logistics of moving in, intermittent maintenance and service gaps (elevators, waitstaff shortages), and the absence of a backup generator. Prospective residents and families should strongly consider visiting for a meal and a tour, ask direct questions about current staffing stability, move-in scheduling and assistance, maintenance response procedures, and backup power plans. It would also be prudent to confirm how ongoing renovations may affect living areas and to request recent references from current residents.

Bottom line: Preston Pointe is highly recommended by a large number of residents and families for its caring staff, exceptional dining, active lifestyle opportunities, and attractive living environment. The facility offers strong value and a welcoming community feel. Prospective residents should, however, be prepared to probe operational details during the decision process—particularly related to sales practices, move-in logistics, staffing consistency, and maintenance—to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing satisfaction.
