    Excellent care and welcoming community

I moved my parent here and we're very happy overall. The staff are warm, knowledgeable and attentive, the food and servers are excellent, and the place is spotless with modern, nicely sized apartments (one-bed/den options, full kitchen, washer/dryer). The campus feels social and active - huge indoor pool, gym, art studio, salon, tavern, lots of activities and bus trips - yet somewhat secluded near a golf course. It's expensive with a buy-in and occasional short-notice scheduling, but the quality of care, amenities and welcoming community make it worth recommending.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with frequent praise for the staff, dining, activities, and the range of amenities. Reviewers consistently highlight friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable staff and attentive servers; management is described as accommodating and informative. The community is characterized as caring and social, with many residents forming friendships and participating in committees, volunteer opportunities, and group events. Several reviewers said they or their family members were very happy with the move and would recommend the community.

Care quality is portrayed positively. Reviews mention a full spectrum of care options including personal care, a dementia unit, and on-site medical access. Multiple reviewers specifically noted excellent care during COVID and felt that health and safety were well-managed. The presence of on-site doctors and personal-care services gives reassurance to families looking for both independence and access to higher levels of care if needed.

Staff and management receive repeated praise. Descriptions such as "wonderful," "very nice," "knowledgeable," and "accommodating" are common. Reviewers note that staff address questions and problems, are supportive in dining and daily activities, and that management is responsive. The servers and restaurant staff are singled out as attentive and upbeat, contributing to a pleasant atmosphere during visits.

Facilities and living accommodations are a major strength. The campus offers resort-style amenities: a huge indoor pool, exercise room, gym, art studio, game room, beauty salon, tavern, and fitness/training rooms. Apartments are generally described as roomy and modern with up-to-date decor; some units include full kitchens and in-unit washers and dryers. Top-floor units with nice views are mentioned positively. The building and grounds are reported as clean and well-maintained.

Dining is consistently reported as a highlight. Many reviewers describe the food as excellent or outstanding, with restaurant-style and buffet dining options and a tavern for casual social meals. Staff in the dining room receive specific compliments, and several reviewers said there was "no bad food." The combination of quality meals and social dining spaces appears to be a strong draw for many residents.

Activities and social life are robust. The community runs a busy calendar with arts and crafts, exercise, dancing, games, seasonal events (e.g., Halloween party), committees, and off-site bus trips. Reviewers describe a wide range of opportunities for physical and mental fitness and for social interaction. However, a recurring concern is scheduling: some events are announced on short notice and overlap, causing many residents to miss activities. One reviewer noted that short notice for an event led to low turnout; another said there simply "wasn't enough time in a day" to attend everything offered.

Cost and location are the primary drawbacks noted. Multiple reviewers call out the upfront buy-in requirement and describe fees as expensive or pricing as higher than other options. The community's somewhat secluded location (near a golf course) is convenient for some but "not ideal" for others who prefer more central access. Perceptions about the facility's size vary: some value the large campus and variety of amenities, while others find the scale less desirable and would prefer a smaller community. There is also mention that some apartment layouts are less spacious compared with other rooms elsewhere in the community.

In summary, The Heritage Of Green Hills is portrayed as a clean, well-staffed, activity-rich community with strong dining, excellent amenities, and a caring atmosphere. It suits prospective residents who prioritize social opportunities, resort-style facilities, on-site medical and personal-care services, and high-quality dining. Prospective residents and families should weigh the higher cost and buy-in requirement, check unit sizes and layouts for their needs, consider the community's location relative to their preferences, and ask about event scheduling practices to ensure the activity calendar aligns with their expectations.

About The Heritage Of Green Hills

The Heritage Of Green Hills sits on 78 acres of rolling green hills and mature trees in Shillington, PA, so when folks drive in they'll see wide open spaces, big blue skies, and all those tall trees, with different buildings for apartments, villas, and personal care, and there's a peaceful feeling there, especially around the outside walking and hiking paths, tennis courts, and the garden where residents can try their hand at gardening or just enjoy the flowers. People can choose from one-bedroom apartments with patios or bay windows and lots of natural light, or bigger two-bedroom villas with a den, balcony or patio, and attached one-car garages, and pets are allowed with spaces like the dog park and plenty of grass for walking. There's Green Hills Manor for personal care and memory care services, specially set up for folks living with Alzheimer's or another dementia, and the Memory Care area even has a bar-style seating area with comfortable chairs, warm lighting, a library, a cozy common area with a fireplace, and places to sit and read near big windows.

The community includes independent living, personal care, memory care, skilled care, hospice care, and respite care, all on one campus as part of a continuing care retirement community, so residents can get help and move between care levels if their needs change. For healthcare, they have some specialized staff, a nurse on staff part-time, medication reminders, hospice care, physical and occupational therapy, and in-home health support, and the Health Services Navigator helps each resident set health and wellness goals. The Well by DesignSM program covers eight areas of wellness-focusing on keeping minds, bodies, and spirits active with things like gardening, group wellness activities, creative arts studio work, woodworking, educational talks, and music programs, plus regular social events, volunteer chances, and facilitated outings, while people who like to stay in can join in with tabletop games, book clubs, and more.

Dining is flexible, with choices from formal fine dining rooms set with white tablecloths and chandeliers, to more casual spots like a coffee bar, casual dining rooms, and even poolside outdoor meals; the staff delivers room service and prepares guest meals, and there are options for residents who want to invite friends or family to stay overnight, thanks to guest parking and accommodations. Each apartment or villa comes with kitchen appliances, Wifi, cable or satellite TV, and some have kitchenettes for those who want simple meals at home.

For comfort and convenience, residents don't have to worry about maintenance or yard work, since staff takes care of repairs, housekeeping, and outside upkeep, and there's an indoor/outdoor heated pool, hot tub spa, woodworking shop, creative arts studio, and entertainment venues for movies and shows. Transportation's covered locally for shopping or appointments, and there's shopping assistance, too, with a concierge service to help schedule activities. Religious services are held, and digital services are provided, including access to social media and technology-like Facebook, Messenger, Meta Quest, Instagram, and others.

Financially, The Heritage Of Green Hills accepts checks, credit card payments, and insurance for residents' payments, which helps some folks plan ahead. The Executive Director is Douglas Walther, with Kristine Rymar as Director of Resident Services, and Cheryl Anderson as Director of Well by Design. The place is run by a registered not-for-profit, and there's a focus on every resident reaching their own best level of independence, comfort, and involvement without feeling overwhelmed, and the setting among the hills tends to lend a quiet, steady feeling to daily living.
