    Small clean place, poorly managed

I live here - it's a small, clean place with basic dorm-like, roommate rooms, three meals a day plus snacks/drinks anytime, activities, and a nice yard with picnic and smoking areas; location near Scranton is convenient. Staff can be helpful, but turnover and poor training are obvious, parking/grounds are dirty, the food is despicable, it's not suitable for dogs, and the facility's tie to a counseling center left me uneasy - they really need new employees.

    About Harrison House

Harrison House sits in Scranton, PA, and offers care for adults who need help with daily living, those who want some independence, and folks needing memory care or skilled nursing, with personal care, memory care, and skilled nursing care services all available in one spot, along with independent living and rehabilitation services for seniors who don't want a hospital-like setting but still want some support. The facility's got 54 licensed beds, with the Department of Social Services and local agencies making regular checks to keep standards up, while the full-time staff stays on hand day and night, with a 24-hour call system and overnight supervision to step in if someone has a medical or personal emergency. Every room, whether it's an apartment or townhouse, comes already furnished like home with a bed, desk, chair, television, private bathroom, and kitchenette, but residents can add their own furniture and decorations, and there's air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and phone lines in each unit to keep things comfortable and connected, plus private bathrooms add to that sense of dignity and privacy that matters plenty to folks as they age.

You'll find help with things like taking a shower, getting dressed, managing medication, and getting around safely, and caregivers also watch insulin for diabetes, handle incontinence needs, and support with bathing and transferring-including two-person transfers if needed-so someone's always nearby to give a hand with whatever comes up, though how much help depends on staff at that time. For folks troubled by memory loss, the community is a secure facility, with special memory care programs, and there's a close link to a counseling center for mental health support when things get overwhelming. Harrison House serves fresh chef-prepared meals three times a day and can adjust menus for diabetics, hypertension, allergies, or even just food preferences, making sure snacks and drinks are out in common spaces so no one goes hungry. Residents eat together in a shared dining room with restaurant-style service, and special requests are often honored.

Around the building's 9,400 square feet and outside on the half-acre lot, there's a little of everything: a fitness room, reading room, small library, garden spaces, outdoor common areas, and even a spot behind the building set aside for smokers, so everyone feels considered. The activity calendar is busy too, with community-run events, resident-led activities, devotional gatherings, art programs, movie nights, music therapy, and even animal visits for good measure; the staff encourages people to stay active, socialize, and find purpose from day to day. When folks want to go out, Harrison House has community transportation services-a shuttle to the doctor, the store, religious outings, or just out in the fresh air-plus parking for personal vehicles, with help arranging rides for non-medical trips as well. Residents and their families can also turn to guardianship and care managers for legal and personal affairs, and there are resources and referrals available for assisted living loans, training, and operational support, all meant to give both seniors and families peace of mind as needs change over time.

Housekeeping, laundry, move-in coordination, and linen services all keep things tidy so people spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying life, and planned wellness programs, exercise groups, spa services, a beauty salon (with mobile hairdressers who visit too), and things like steam rooms and jacuzzis round out the physical care side. The outdoor walking paths, picnic tables in the yard, and gardens let folks get sun and fresh air, or just share quiet talks. Staff members can speak several languages including English, and the community tries to keep rules simple and support straightforward. The building's licensed for up to 46 seniors at a time, and though it doesn't accept Medicare unless certified by CMS, it is still a place people often trust when they're worried about safety, comfort, and needing honest support in late life, since Harrison House works to give dignity and respect each day with long-term care services, medical help, and a focus on building real relationships within its faith-based community.
