    Loved care, rude staff, misrepresented

I loved working there and I've seen them care well for my mother-in-law - the place is clean, homey, with good-sized rooms, varied menus, lots of activities and even a 5-star style Christmas dinner. That said, several charge nurses and the front desk were rude and staff sometimes talk negatively; the building is older/run-down in spots and the program felt misrepresented. The hiring process was overbearing (three interviews, two TB shots, strict age/DUI rules) and ended badly for me - felt like a waste of time.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment toward Kelly Manor is generally positive from the perspective of residents, visitors, and several employees, but there are consistent caveats related to personnel interactions, hiring practices, and building age/maintenance. Multiple reviewers describe the facility as homey and comfortable, highlighting cleanliness and good-sized resident rooms. The appearance and atmosphere are frequently praised — several comments note a welcoming community that "feels like home," friendly staff, and a helpful tour experience that left a good impression.

Care quality and staff: Many reviewers explicitly say care is good and that staff are caring and treat residents well. There are multiple mentions that the community "treats residents right," and some reviewers reported positive personal experiences (including one who "loved my job there"). However, these positive accounts are tempered by reports of unprofessional behavior from certain employees: rude charge nurses, front desk staff described as rude, and staff who talk negatively about people. This creates a mixed picture of staff consistency — while many interactions are warm and supportive, there appear to be notable exceptions that have left strong negative impressions. One reviewer also reported that their employment "ended badly," suggesting potential management or workplace-culture issues that affect both staff morale and resident experience.

Facilities and maintenance: Comments about the physical plant are somewhat mixed. Several reviewers call the facility clean and comfortable, but others characterize it as an older, run-down establishment or "outdated building." The pattern suggests that while living spaces and public areas are kept clean and can feel home-like, the overall structure may be aging and in need of updates or maintenance in places. Prospective residents and families should weigh the clean, comfortable interiors against reports of an older facility.

Activities and dining: This is a strong area for Kelly Manor. Reviews repeatedly mention a plentiful slate of activities, exercise classes, and an active calendar that supports resident engagement. Dining is also called out positively — reviewers note a varied menu and even single-out a "5-star restaurant-style Christmas dinner," indicating capacity for high-quality special meals and generally well-regarded everyday dining.

Management, hiring, and communication: A recurring and specific concern involves the hiring and administrative side of operations. Several reviewers report an "overbearing" hiring process: mandatory two TB shots, three interviews, a minimum age requirement of 16, and disqualification for DUI or criminal-history issues. Some applicants felt the process wasted their time. There is also at least one report that the program purpose was misrepresented, and multiple reports of unhelpful or rude front-desk interactions. Together these comments point to opportunities for clearer communication with applicants and families, better customer-service training for administrative staff, and possibly a review of recruitment procedures to reduce perception of unnecessary barriers or poor candidate experience.

Patterns and overall impression: Combining all reviews, Kelly Manor appears to be a generally well-run, welcoming community with strong programming, good care, and noteworthy dining. The clearest strengths are the homey atmosphere, cleanliness, activity offerings, and positive dining experiences. The most significant concerns are inconsistent staff behavior (some caring, some rude), an onerous or poorly communicated hiring process, occasional misrepresentation of program purpose, and an older physical building in need of updates in some areas. These mixed signals suggest that while many residents and visitors have very positive experiences, there are systemic and interpersonal issues—largely around management communication and staff consistency—that, if addressed, could notably improve overall satisfaction.

For someone considering Kelly Manor, the reviews recommend visiting in person (the tours were called helpful), meeting direct-care staff and administrative personnel, asking specific questions about activity schedules and dining, and clarifying any program descriptions up front. If hiring there, applicants should be prepared for multiple steps in the screening process and confirm expectations about immunizations and background checks before investing significant time.
