    Loving staff, clean safe, recommended

I'm very pleased with the care my mom received - the staff are loving, attentive, and treat residents like family. The community is clean, safe and well-managed with lots of activities, on-site clinicians, and generally good meals. Downsides: older building, small rooms and limited in-room amenities, occasional staffing shortages and yearly price increases. Overall I feel my mom is cared for and I would recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on the quality and compassion of the staff and the community atmosphere. Reviewers consistently describe staff as caring, attentive, patient, and family-like — spanning administration, nursing, housekeeping, and maintenance — and frequently note that employees go the extra mile. Many families specifically praise staff competency in medication administration and clinical oversight, reporting measurable health improvements for residents. The facility is described as clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, and multiple caregivers and professionals are available on-site to support residents' needs.

Care quality and medical oversight are recurring strengths in the reviews. Residents benefit from consistent medication administration, on-site nurse practitioners and other clinical services, and proactive care coordination. Families report that staff know residents by name and provide personalized attention. COVID-19 policies and infection-control practices earn repeated approval: vaccination of staff and residents, sensible quarantine practices during outbreaks, and sensible resumption of activities after clearance are all mentioned as providing reassurance and safety.

Social life and activities are another major positive. The community offers a broad, active calendar — frequent bingo and trivia, music, crafts, singing, movie nights, book clubs, games, and group exercise — often run by a creative and engaged activities director. Reviewers emphasize that activities are plentiful, inclusive, and often professionally led, helping residents form friendships and enjoy improved mood and engagement. A common request alongside praise for activities is a desire for more variety in certain programs and for more off-site outings and field trips to expand residents' experiences outside the facility.

Food and dining receive mixed but generally favorable commentary. Multiple reviews praise delicious, homemade-style meals, balanced nutrition, and nutritionist/dietitian oversight, and several mention an elegant or restaurant-style dining room. However, a notable group of reviewers find some meals pedestrian or not appetizing and ask for more menu variety and appealing presentation. While nutrition and balance are appreciated, dining remains an area where some residents and families see room for improvement.

Facility, amenities, and housekeeping are regularly mentioned in positive terms: clean rooms and common areas, responsive maintenance and housekeeping, personalized room set-ups, and comfortable décor. Some reviewers note ongoing remodeling and improvements. However, a few comments point to an older building with small rooms and limited in-room amenities (for example, no microwave or refrigerator in certain units), limited outdoor space, and specific exterior/road maintenance issues that have been raised for attention.

Management, communication, and community policies are generally seen as strengths. Many families highlight proactive, communicative administration that keeps them informed, coordinates care smoothly, and manages COVID policies responsibly. The community atmosphere is described as welcoming and resident-first, and staff are credited with making families feel included. A small number of reviews, however, mention intermittent lapses in communication or responsiveness and short-term staffing problems that temporarily affected service.

Operational concerns that appear repeatedly include staffing levels and cost/value issues. Several reviews call out staffing shortages, turnover among techs and some nurses, and occasional shortfalls that can affect care or service delivery. A few reviewers specifically mention stockouts or supply issues. Financially, rising costs, yearly price increases, and concerns about value for money are raised by multiple reviewers; one or more families expressed that the facility is expensive and that increases after assessments are problematic. There are also practical concerns from a few reviewers about insufficient staff available for heavy lifting or transfers.

In summary, Morningside of Springfield is portrayed in these reviews as a well-run, welcoming community with exceptionally compassionate and skilled staff, solid clinical oversight, and a lively activity program that supports residents’ wellbeing and social life. The facility is clean and offers many amenities and on-site services, and families frequently feel reassured by management's communication and COVID-19 policies. Areas for improvement include enhancing dining quality and menu variety, addressing staffing stability and occasional supply issues, continuing to expand off-site activities and field trips, and resolving specific facility amenity gaps and exterior maintenance concerns. Overall, the reviews communicate strong trust in the staff and management, high satisfaction with care and social programming, and a generally positive recommendation from many families, tempered by a few operational and cost-related negatives that prospective residents should consider.

    About Morningside of Springfield

Morningside of Springfield gives seniors several ways to live, offering independent living, assisted living, and memory care all on one campus, which is something a lot of folks find useful as their needs change, and you'll find cozy apartments in studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom layouts with kitchens or kitchenettes, so people can keep up some of their routines if they want to, and pets are welcome here, even with a dog park and pet therapy available, which is a big deal for many. There's a full set of services like on-site maintenance, housekeeping each week, linen help, and included cable, internet, and satellite TV, along with a staff ready 24/7 when someone needs something, and there's respite care for those only staying a little while or giving caregivers a break. Residents eat meals in care-focused or restaurant-style dining rooms, and there's a bar and cocktail lounge, beauty salon and barbershop, plus a library, a card and game room, activity areas, a movie theater, and both indoor and outdoor pools, so no one has to go far to find something to do. There's a fitness center with exercise classes, group trips, social events, volunteer chances, movie nights, and other life enrichment activities, and the chapel is right here, too, for those who want religious services close by. The grounds include a lake, gazebo, community gardens, and shared patios where people gather, plus there's covered parking and a gated area to make things feel secure, and transportation is available for shopping and appointments. The Five Star Lifestyle programs bring more activities, special dining, and help with activities of daily living if someone moves to assisted living, and the memory care handles special needs for Alzheimer's or dementia in a separate secure area. While the independent living option lets folks stay active with less worry about chores, assisted living and skilled nursing meet medical or supportive needs, and the whole place is designed to be warm and welcoming, with staff making sure people feel at home and included, with prices starting at $3,100 for independent living and $3,300 for assisted living, plus options for short-term stays and hospice if needed, and they do keep up with licensing and safety rules as a verified partner, which helps families have some peace of mind. The community is surrounded by trees and walking paths, and there's always something on the calendar, so most people find there's a nice balance between privacy and activities, and the overall aim seems to be to give people choices to stay as independent as possible, with a good amount of support nearby.
