    Long-term resident, spacious, friendly, comfortable

I've lived here long-term and overall I'm happy. My apartment is spacious and clean, the grounds are well-kept, and staff - maintenance, social services, commissary and hairdresser - are friendly, helpful and often responsive 24/7. Downsides: the lobby and some furniture can be worn/dirty, and there have been occasional pest, odor, and security/office-staff issues. Still, it's a comfortable, convenient place to call home.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans positive with substantial praise for staff, apartments, and on-site amenities. Many reviewers emphasize a welcoming, home-like atmosphere and describe apartments as beautiful, spacious, and an appropriate size for seniors. Long-term residents repeatedly note gratitude and comfort living at the property, and multiple comments identify the facility as a ‘‘wonderful place to call home.’'

Staff and care-related feedback is one of the strongest themes. Numerous reviews highlight friendly, professional, and helpful staff who often know residents by name. Maintenance is repeatedly praised for responsiveness — with several mentions that repairs were completed the same day and that staff are available 24/7, including nights and weekends. The social services department and an individual social worker are specifically credited for assistance with prescriptions and resident needs, which indicates reliable case management support for health- and service-related matters.

Facilities and on-site amenities receive frequent positive remarks. The building offers useful ground-floor features such as an on-site commissary/store, an in-house hairdresser/beauty parlor, computer access, elevators, and a garden area. Reviewers mention that the property is generally well-kept and comfortable for guests, and that common services (hairdresser, commissary) contribute to convenience and quality of life for residents.

However, there are notable and serious concerns raised by a subset of reviewers that create a clear pattern of inconsistent experiences. Several reviewers report significant cleanliness and pest issues: a lobby that was once nice but has become dirty, worn-out rugs and furniture, and specific allegations of bed bugs and roaches. Other complaints include persistent bad odors described as alcohol and stale cigarette smoke, and a perceived lack of security in the building. These issues are serious red flags for senior housing, as pests and sanitation problems directly affect resident health and well-being.

Management and customer-service consistency appear to be mixed. While many reviewers describe office and front-line staff as friendly and helpful, at least one review strongly criticizes the office staff as rude and labels the place ‘‘horrible.’' This contrast suggests variability in staff interactions or possible changes over time or between shifts. The combination of very positive staff remarks and isolated but severe negative reports points to inconsistent standards or uneven enforcement of policies.

In summary, B'Nai B'Rith House is frequently praised for its warm community atmosphere, attentive maintenance, helpful social services, and convenient on-site amenities, which make it a comfortable long-term option for many residents. At the same time, recurring complaints about lobby deterioration, pest infestations, foul odors, security concerns, and occasional rude front-office interactions warrant attention. Prospective residents and family members should weigh the predominantly positive testimonials about staff and living units against the reported sanitation and management inconsistencies; for the operator, priorities should include addressing pest control, improving lobby/common-area upkeep, strengthening security measures, and ensuring consistent resident-facing customer service to resolve the most serious concerns raised in the reviews.

    About B'Nai B'Rith House

B'Nai B'Rith House sits at 8000 Society Dr, Claymont, DE 19703, and has been working with the Department of Housing and Urban Development since 1971 to give seniors affordable apartments, which means people with limited incomes can find a home there without worry about high rents and that's always helpful. The place has a long history, running a senior housing program since 1968, so they've learned over time how to make things work well for folks who want a safe and supportive community. The apartments range from cozy studios to roomy one-bedroom units, and the grounds have a lot of greenery, offering a peaceful and quiet space that feels like a retreat right outside the city noise.

Residents get a choice between independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing home services, and even home care, so people can find support that fits, whether they need a little help with things like bathing, dressing, or medication, or they're still active and like to do most things on their own. There are rehabilitation and hospice care options for people who might need extra attention for a short or longer span, and respite care if a regular carer needs a break. The staff is known for being helpful and kind, always trying to make sure each resident gets the care and attention they need, and more than a few people have said the staff seem genuinely joyful in their work, which is good to see.

Meals use quality ingredients with a focus on nutrition and taste, because good food makes a big difference every day, and the staff work hard to keep the place clean and organized, which shows up in the reviews-residents and families mention it's tidy and welcoming, and the facility gets an excellent 4.5-star rating from customer feedback confirmed by SeniorAdvisor.com. The community is friendly toward families, offering activities and social events that help neighbors connect and keep minds and bodies busy, whether that's games, group outings, or just a chat in the communal space, which often grows into friendships and a feeling of belonging.

Amenities include room comforts, communal areas, and spaces for organized activities, all managed with an eye to making daily life pleasant and straightforward. The complex partners with HUD and keeps doors open to everyone who qualifies, whatever their background, and the application and waitlist process runs through the property management directly, so people know who to reach out to rather than getting lost in paperwork. Pricing information is limited, though the average reported cost is around $275 but details may change. The whole goal is to provide a secure place where older adults can live with dignity, have their needs met, and still keep their independence when possible, and that commitment comes through when people talk about their experience at B'Nai B'Rith House.
