    Clean friendly affordable senior living

I'm pleased with this facility - clean, well-maintained older building with cute apartments, friendly and easy-to-work-with staff, and a good variety of activities. The price and income limits made it great value for us; my dad is adjusting and enjoying it so far.

    Summary of reviews

St Mary's Roland View Towers presents as an older, well-kept independent-living option that appeals primarily to budget-conscious, income-qualified seniors. Reviewers consistently describe the building and units as clean and attractively maintained; apartments are described as "cute" and priced competitively relative to local inflation. The facility's income limits and affordability are repeatedly noted as strengths, making it a practical choice for residents seeking economical independent living rather than a full-service assisted-living environment.

Staff interactions are consistently characterized as positive. Families and residents describe staff as friendly and easy to work with, and that initial transitions have gone smoothly for incoming residents. There is limited direct commentary about dining or formal meal quality in the available summaries; no clear pattern of dining satisfaction or dissatisfaction emerges. Likewise, explicit descriptions of clinical care are sparse: several reviewers indicated they had not used clinical or care services, which suggests the community functions primarily as independent living. Prospective residents who require regular clinical support should confirm available services and response protocols before committing.

Programming and social life are mixed. The community offers a range of scheduled activities and some reviewers praised that variety, but others described boredom and social friction. This suggests that while programming exists, engagement and fit vary across residents; some people find the options adequate, whereas others perceive limited stimulation or social cliquing. The social climate has been described as prone to gossip and immature interactions, which may affect residents who prefer a more mature or quieter social environment.

Facility-level notes: the building is older but appears well maintained; however, there are unit-level maintenance gaps such as missing or inadequate window screens and other small fixture deficiencies. The multi-level, older design may not suit prospective residents who prefer single-floor layouts or more modern construction. Several remarks also conveyed uncertainty about the surrounding neighborhood; prospective residents and families should evaluate the location in person, including local services and safety perceptions.

Overall, St Mary's Roland View Towers is best framed as an affordable, clean, and staff-friendly independent-living community with basic programming. It is appropriate for seniors prioritizing value and a well-maintained apartment-style residence. Those seeking robust on-site amenities, consistently high-engagement activity programming, single-level modern units, or regular clinical care should verify specifics with management and consider touring comparable properties to compare layout and service offerings.

About St Mary's Roland View Towers

St Mary's Roland View Towers, known also as St Mary's Roland View Towers I & II Affordable Living, sits in Baltimore, Maryland, near places like the Maryland Institute College of Art, parks, pharmacies, and churches, so there's a lot nearby if residents like to get out. This high-rise community has 209 apartments in older but well-kept buildings, and people here seem to enjoy a friendly neighborhood with a welcoming spirit. The place offers studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, all meant for adults 55 and up, with low income housing supported by HUD and several programs like Section 8 and the 202 loan program, with extra help from the Baltimore Housing Authority. People who need a bit more help, like with memory care or assisted living, can get support with things like medication, dressing, or diabetic care, while others who want more independence find active adult apartments and communities where they can still do most things on their own. Residents get health services including ambulatory, diabetic, and incontinence care, along with meals, dining, and a beautician on-site. Safety and comfort get some thought too since there are elevators, wheelchair ramps, accessible parking, and common areas both inside and out, plus a 24/7 reception desk and an on-site services coordinator. The apartments have features like bathtubs and allow pets-both cats and dogs that are under 30 pounds, and smoking is allowed outdoors for those who want it. Folks can join devotional activities either on the property or off-site, take part in social and recreational activities, and use transportation services for getting to appointments and other outings. There is parking for residents, and the community welcomes both seniors and families in certain areas, making it a choice for different groups. The broader property also includes other names like Bolton North Apartments for Seniors, Lakeview Towers, Foxwell Memorial Affordable Apartments, and places called Gilmor Homes and Uplands II, all focused on low income support. St Mary's Roland View Towers emphasizes public, non-profit housing with income restrictions, so people who qualify can find a place that's both affordable and simple, where they can relax, socialize, and get help as needed without the pressure to fit into some fancy mold.
