    Once great, now poorly managed

I lived here when it was a great, friendly community with lots of activities and good exercise equipment. Under new owners/management everything changed - activities and the bus are gone, no bingo or outdoor seating, the lobby feels jail-like (no Christmas tree, residents scared to talk), strict rules like no flowers on doors, and the laundry is dirty so you must do your own. I feel the elderly are treated poorly now and I do not recommend this place for care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is negative with a clear pattern of decline following a change in ownership or management. Multiple reviewers contrast a prior, more positive experience — describing the community as friendly, active, and "a great place to live" — with the current situation, where many social amenities and community touches have disappeared. The most frequently mentioned positives are the community itself and the presence of good exercise equipment, but these are outweighed by numerous operational and atmosphere concerns that residents and visitors report.

Care quality and staff: Reviewers express concern about how the elderly are treated under current management, with at least one comment explicitly stating that seniors are treated poorly. There is also a recurring comment that residents feel intimidated or scared to talk in the lobby, which suggests problems with the social environment, enforcement of rules, or staff/resident relationships. Some past goodwill is noted — staff were friendly previously — but multiple summaries indicate that friendliness and a supportive atmosphere have eroded since the management change.

Activities and social life: A prominent theme is the loss of activities and social programming. Several reviewers say there are "no activities anymore," that there is "no bingo," and that the place is "very boring" compared with its prior state of offering "lots of activities." Transportation services have also reportedly been cut — reviewers specifically mention that there is "no bus" — which likely compounds the decline in residents' mobility and access to offsite events. Taken together, these points indicate a significant reduction in organized social and recreational services that previously contributed to quality of life.

Facilities and amenities: Comments about facilities are mixed but leaning negative. The exercise equipment is called out as a positive, suggesting at least some fitness resources remain. However, the lobby environment is repeatedly described in negative terms — one reviewer says it "looked like a jail," and another notes the absence of a Christmas tree in the lobby, which readers cite as an example of declining community spirit or holiday observance. Reviewers also mention no outdoor seating or place to sit outside, reducing residents' options for fresh air and quiet time. Practical services are criticized as well: laundry facilities are said to be "not clean," and residents are required to "must do own laundry," which reviewers identify as a burden or sign of reduced service levels.

Policies, rules, and small-community touches: Several reviews reference changes to door decorations and signage — specifically that a sticker on a door knocker was ripped and that residents "cannot place small flowers on doors." These details point to stricter enforcement of aesthetic or personal-decor rules that may be undermining residents' sense of personalization and comfort in their living spaces. The combination of such restrictions and the removal of festive displays contributes to reviewers' perceptions of an unfriendly or institutional atmosphere.

Management and patterns: The single strongest explanatory thread across the reviews is the arrival of new owners or a new management company. Multiple reviewers explicitly attribute the decline in activities, decorations, and overall atmosphere to this ownership change. The pattern reported is: previously good community and programs, followed by a noticeable drop-off after the new management took over. Because this change is repeatedly singled out, it appears to be the central catalyst for residents' dissatisfaction.

Recommendation and final assessment: Reviewers commonly conclude that the current environment is "not recommended for care" and repeatedly describe the community as "very boring." While there are lingering positives — a nice community feel for some, and usable exercise equipment — the weight of comments about reduced services, unclean laundry facilities, lost transportation, loss of activities, an unwelcoming lobby, and perceived poor treatment of elderly residents suggest significant declines in quality of life and care-related offerings. Prospective residents or family members should be cautious: verify current activity schedules, transportation availability, laundry services and cleanliness, management policies on decorations and lobby usage, and talk directly to current residents about staff interactions before deciding.

    About Cumberland View Towers

Cumberland View Towers sits in Madison, TN, and has provided senior living since 1980, with 151 one-bedroom apartment homes for people aged 62 and older, and you'll find that residents must meet income requirements since the apartments use a rent scale based on 30% of household income, giving a preference to extremely low-income applicants, backed by Section 8 rental assistance, and resting on a property over 78,000 square feet with the goal of balanced, affordable apartments for older adults. With a no-smoking policy indoors and cats and dogs allowed within a certain weight range, the place fosters comfort and accessibility for seniors, adding in things like laundry facilities, resident parking, transportation (for a fee), outdoor and indoor common spaces, and a resident service coordinator. The staff offers assisted living, memory care, nursing home, skilled nursing, home care, and independent living options all shaped for the individual needs of each person, though the apartments mainly serve those who wish to keep their independence but need a little extra support now and then, and families can also find housing here, provided the household head meets the age rules. Each week, residents can join knitting classes and vespers, enjoy Bible study every other Saturday, and listen or play along with the Resident Band every Monday night, plus the calendar fills up with birthday parties, bus trips to area stores, group gardening through a Garden Club, and live music from groups like Music For Seniors. Meals made by a kitchen staff cater to different diets, staff remain available and trained to help people settle in, and activities aim to keep older adults social, active, and connected. There's a proprietary scoring system tied to community feedback and the community rating comes in at 8 out of 10, while a review score based on four reviews sits lower, at 1 out of 10, with a 2.0 star rating recorded as "Good" and data on crime, weather, nearby health facilities, and parks available for anyone wanting specifics about the neighborhood. The community has one-bedroom layouts only, aims to be affordable, and has measures to support safety, accessibility, and peace of mind, while the nonprofit management keeps things focused on service and secure housing for older people looking for a sense of home and opportunities for fun.
