    Friendly staff, but safety issues

I like the friendly, professional staff, clean/beautiful, homey apartments, and helpful services (transportation, cleaning, meals) - I'm generally satisfied and would recommend. However, ongoing renovations delayed move-in readiness, cable wasn't set up, activities are limited, and I've noticed nighttime security concerns (rowdy non-senior tenants, lobby soiling, little monitoring or corporate support). Overall it's a lovely place with caring staff, but safety, staffing, and renovation issues need improvement.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Serenity Apartments at Hickory Hill is mixed but leans positive on staff and physical plant, while showing notable concerns about safety, management responsiveness at higher levels, and disruption from renovations. Many reviewers emphasize strong points: consistently friendly, professional, and attentive staff who residents feel care about them. Multiple comments highlight staff responsiveness and helpfulness (quickly addressing issues, informative representatives, welcoming events) as well as practical services such as transportation, after-hours emergency support, apartment cleaning, and meal assistance. These operational strengths contribute to feelings of comfort and satisfaction for many residents and guests; several reviewers explicitly say they are happy with their choice and would recommend the community.

Facilities and aesthetics receive repeated praise. Reviewers frequently describe the property as clean, beautiful, and well-maintained with pleasant smells after renovations. Cottages and apartments are characterized as large and roomy, and the neighborhood is described as a nice area with a quiet, homey atmosphere. Renovations are seen positively in terms of the look and smell of the property — the upgrades appear to improve the appearance and comfort of the community for many residents.

However, a subset of reviews raises serious safety and management concerns that contrast sharply with the otherwise positive staff and facility comments. Specific troubling incidents are reported, including urination on lobby furniture and statements about a lack of monitoring. Several reviewers mention insufficient security, rowdy non-senior tenants on the premises, and nighttime safety worries. There are also claims about abandoned tenants and perceptions that corporate or higher-level management is not providing adequate support. These issues point to inconsistent enforcement of community rules and gaps in security and oversight.

Management feedback is mixed: while some reviewers praise the director as nice and staff-level interactions are frequently positive, other reviewers criticized the director (described by some as too young or lacking empathy) and expressed frustration with perceived limited corporate involvement. This split suggests that day-to-day staff are performing well in resident-facing roles, but there may be weaknesses in leadership visibility, crisis handling, or escalation pathways when more serious problems arise.

Renovations are another recurring theme with both positive and negative impacts. Many appreciate the refreshed look and improved amenities, but several reviewers reported renovation-related problems such as move-in readiness delays and disruptions during the transition. One practical service issue mentioned is delayed or missing direct cable service after rent was paid, indicating occasional logistical or vendor coordination problems.

Activities and programming are noted as limited by multiple reviewers. While the atmosphere is described as quiet and homey — which some residents value — others see a need for more structured activities or engagement opportunities. This, combined with the safety and management concerns, frames the principal areas for improvement: enhanced security and monitoring, clearer and more effective management escalation and corporate support, better coordination around move-ins and vendor services (like cable), and expanded resident activities.

In summary, Serenity Apartments at Hickory Hill appears to offer a warm, attractive, and well-staffed environment that many residents find comfortable and recommendable. The core strengths are the caring, responsive staff and the attractive, clean facilities. Yet, several serious and recurring concerns about security, oversight, renovation disruptions, and some management shortcomings temper the overall picture. Prospective residents should weigh the evident day-to-day quality of care and the well-maintained environment against the reported safety incidents and consider asking management for specifics on security measures, monitoring procedures, renovation timelines, and how corporate-level issues are handled before committing.
