    Great amenities, friendly staff; verify

I toured this apartment-style independent living community and was impressed - saltwater pool, movie theater, library, woodworking/crafts rooms, game rooms, bar with happy hours, lots of activities and a dog run. Staff and housekeeping were friendly, responsive and the place was clean and well-maintained. Downsides: no daily meals (you must cook), some units had weak AC, and rent felt high for some budgets; check accessibility and parking. Overall very lively and well-equipped - great amenities and people, but verify cost and unit climate before moving in.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive, centered on a well-kept, active independent-living community with a wide range of amenities and a friendly, helpful staff. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize the facility’s cleanliness and modern/new construction feel, often describing it as immaculate and well maintained. The property projects a social, "cruise-ship" vibe for independent residents, with a welcoming lobby, multiple gathering spaces, a bar/pub-style community room, and frequent social activities such as happy hours, potlucks, pie contests, and themed events.

Staff and customer interactions are one of the most consistently praised elements. Many reviewers call the staff personable, patient and informative; tours are frequently described as thorough and helpful. Housekeeping and maintenance receive frequent positive mention — reviewers note daily cleaning options, responsive maintenance, and well-kept grounds. While most staff impressions are very favorable, a minority of comments call out rushed interactions or a dismissive front office experience, suggesting variability depending on timing or individual staff members.

Facilities and activities are standout strengths. The reviews list a long set of amenities: a movie theater, saltwater pool, hot tub/jacuzzi, sauna, fitness rooms, woodworking and hobby shops, extensive craft rooms, library (sometimes noted as having a fireplace), computer/tech rooms, game and card rooms, gardens and outdoor barbecue areas, dog run and dog-washing stations, and guest suites for family visits. Many reviewers appreciate the independent living, apartment-style model with social programming rather than institutional dining. Activity offerings are varied and frequent (crafts, bingo, trivia, exercise classes, movies, gardening, and social hours), supporting a robust sense of community for residents who want engagement and social opportunities.

Dining and lifestyle model is a clear pattern in the feedback and a possible mismatch for some prospects. Multiple reviewers point out there is no regular on-site dining service; residents are expected to prepare their own meals or rely on community potlucks and occasional events. For people seeking assisted dining or daily communal meals, this facility may not be appropriate. Relatedly, some reviewers noted occasional small inconveniences at events (for example, no food served during a movie night) — these seem to be isolated but reflect the independent-living emphasis rather than a full-service senior living model.

Cost, availability and unit mix are recurring concerns. Several reviewers describe the pricing as a bit high or express value concerns; one or more reviewers noted that online pricing appeared mispriced or unclear. Availability issues include waiting lists and lack of two-bedroom units, which is an important limitation for couples or those needing larger apartments. Some reviewers said they couldn’t afford placement despite liking the community. There are also mentions of fees for certain services (guest room for family visits noted at $75), which factors into perceived overall cost.

Operational and accessibility notes: a few reviewers called attention to parking limitations and to accessibility concerns for residents using walkers or wheelchairs in parts of the building. There are isolated reports of air conditioning being undersized in certain units. Activity scheduling and amenity availability have been affected at times (notably during COVID-19 restrictions), and a few people mentioned transportation was not provided by the campus, which may be a drawback for residents who rely on shuttle services.

Bottom line: Affinity at Puyallup is portrayed as a clean, modern, and socially engaging independent living community with a breadth of on-site amenities and generally excellent staff and maintenance. It best fits independent seniors who value activities, social life, pet friendliness, and apartment-style living rather than full dining services or assisted care. Prospective residents should verify current pricing and unit availability, confirm accessibility and parking arrangements, and ask about air conditioning capacity and transportation options before moving in. A tour is recommended (many reviewers praised tours), and potential residents should specifically confirm dining expectations, two-bedroom availability, and any extra fees to ensure the community matches their needs and budget.

Affinity at Puyallup sits in the Southhill area of Puyallup, WA, and offers a mix of living options for adults needing different levels of care as their health changes over time, so folks can move from independent living to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or even stay in residential care homes right on the same campus, making it easier if things change with health or support needs. The place focuses on people aged 55 and up, with most of its features tailored for those 62 and older, and takes a straightforward approach when it comes to both independent living and support with daily activities, so residents can get help as needed but still do as much for themselves as possible.

The apartments have useful touches like patios or balconies, central air and electric heating, plus regular home appliances-dishwasher, washer, dryer, refrigerator, microwave, and so on-with in-unit laundry and all the utilities included, including electricity, water, sewer, garbage, internet, cable, and wi-fi, so monthly bills are more predictable. Covered parking and a detached garage are there too, and the place is pet-friendly, so cats, small dogs, or big dogs are all welcome-which the dog park and pet wash spa help with. There's a fitness center, a big indoor saltwater pool, a hot tub right next to it, and a spa you can use all year, plus outdoor spaces like gardens and a BBQ deck for people who like the fresh air. Meals get good reviews for being nutritious and made with decent ingredients, and common areas look and feel comfortable, with a lounge, movie theater, and plenty of relaxation spots.

The place has earned awards for its sense of community and caring staff, and folks describe the staff as friendly and available, with good training for both simple independence and more advanced dementia care if that's needed. Maintenance is handled online, there's an onsite manager, an elevator, security looking out for things, and rent includes access to all the amenities, so there's less to keep track of. Affinity at Puyallup supports a simple, maintenance-free lifestyle in a spot that makes it easy to stay connected, active, and safe as needs change.
