    Excellent dementia care, some issues

My father adjusted well here and I'm very glad we chose it - the staff are excellent, caring and attentive, responsive to family input, and experienced with dementia (including Lewy body). The pod layout, active residents, engaging activities and clean, close-knit feel make it a comfortable fit; office/management support has been helpful. Downsides: it's on the expensive side, food is okay but not exceptional, there's occasional urine smell, no AC in some areas, and a few maintenance/closet issues. Overall I would recommend it.

About HomePlace At Burlington by Cogir

HomePlace At Burlington by Cogir offers assisted living and memory care in a comfortable, homelike environment made for seniors who want daily support or specialized care for memory loss. The community has 46 licensed beds across four living areas named Chuckanut, Fairhaven, Rainier, and the Bungalo, with each pod having open concept spaces for eating, sitting, and activities. The staff provide personal care with kindness and respect, helping with things like bathing, medication, dressing, toileting, and more, and they're there 24/7 along with on-call nurses and doctors.

Memory care at HomePlace focuses on relationship-based care through the Revere℠ Memory Care approach, using personal routines and activities to help those with Alzheimer's or other dementia connect and feel safe. Residents with memory loss can join special programs like Memories in Motion, which highlights their life stories and memories, and enjoy group activities designed to spark conversation and joy. The team encourages family involvement and aims to keep everyone informed and included in care plans.

There's a focus on wellness and engagement with programs such as Forever Fit for fitness, Pawsitive Health where pets support health and socializing, and the Melody & Masterpiece Program in the on-site art studio for music and art. Residents can join exercise classes, religious services, and group events either on-site or at outings. There are comforting spaces, with private or semi-private studios about 265 square feet each, as well as areas for quiet time, socializing, or getting crafty. People can walk the safe outdoor paths, visit the vegetable and herb gardens, take part in happy hours, and sit in the courtyards or salon spa.

The kitchen staff prepare chef-crafted meals, cooked to order, and can manage special diets or food restrictions, all served in a pleasant dining area. Advanced safety features, like AI video systems from the SafelyYou partnership, help prevent falls and keep residents safe, while staff also give medication reminders and other regular care. It's easy to see there's pride in keeping things tidy with regular housekeeping, providing Wi-Fi, open outdoor parking, onsite and offsite activities, and being pet-friendly.

Pods 3 and 4 each fit 12 to 14 residents focused on TV and social times, Pod 2 has room for 16 and hosts more group activities, and Pod 1 is set up for 18 people needing extra help with daily living. Altogether, the building houses up to 60 residents, offering both private and communal experiences. Services like dentist visits, therapist support, and hospice or respite care are available. Both men and women are welcome, and the staff take extra care to honor independence and dignity, making changes or programs based on what each person likes and needs. HomePlace At Burlington encourages joy and connection every day, treats each resident with patience and dignity, supports families, and uses up-to-date tools and training for memory care. Built in 1998 and affiliated with Cogir, the place keeps up with modern amenities and stays true to its home-like feel, all while earning high marks for satisfaction from families and residents.
